Hear me out people.......
I read on here everyday about how Oscar was a good fighter, but not an ATG because he didn't win his biggest fights. I also listen to people say everyday that Marquez is an ATG because he should have a win over Pacquiao, and probably should have won a couple other fights that were losses.
So my question is this......if we're giving Marquez credit for his 3 close fights with Pacquiao (where he should have at least had one win) and what should have probably been wins over Norwood and John, why don't people give Oscar credit for his close fights with Mosley (where he should have at least one win) and what probably should have been a win over Trinidad????
Why is that???
I think both are ATG. DLH because of his resume and I think clearly beat trinidad and Mosley in the second fight.
JMM because of what he's done so late in his career and against Pac, one of the greatest fighters to ever box IMO.
I think people just formulate opinions based on who they like and don't like. Very few people can be unbiased when making opinions of others.
that's a good point though. i think oscar has probably a top 5 all time rezzy in boxing history.
Top 5 in the past 20 years, yes.
All time, not close.
and, technically, the first Pacquiao fight. It was a scoring error that benefitted Marquez.
Many people score that fight in favour of Marquez.
Not a clear loss by any means.
I think a fighter should be rated on his whole prime and not a few close big fights that could be scored either way or a draw. Oscar was the most important fighter in boxing for many years. I don't like Oscar but I think he gets into the all time greats and Marquez is also an all time great.
Because having an argument for wins over Pacquiao is better than any fighter Oscar has close losses to, especially the third fight. Oscar has nothing to compare to moving up to 147 at the end of his career and arguably beating one of the two best fighters in the world. And some of Oscar's best wins are as controversial as his close losses.
I also think you can just look at the two fighters and see that Marquez was better.
Resume wise its hard to beat Oscar and i think he's an atg. He's been at the peak every step of the way. Amateurs, Pro, and post boxing. His only real losses you can say were the Bernard and Shane 1 fight (I had shane in the second but he juiced sooo...). The Trinidad one most dont think he lost. Floyd he was past his by a good deal and the Pac one needs no mention. Well, for me i dont count his losses to floyd and pac against his legacy. No shame in being beat by a great and young (possibly atg) Shane and Bernard (another atg). When you're THAT past your prime...and are the favorite to beat Pac? You know youve done well...
Jmm isnt done yet but the Pac fight has made both of them look well. The only difference is jmM didn fight Oscar and has forged a good career without fighting and beating the golden boy.
because oscar is feminine and marquez es mas macho.
that's a good point though. i think oscar has probably a top 5 all time rezzy in boxing history.
:lol1:
________

It's not technically anything, it still doesn't make it a clear loss.
No it's not. He then turns around and calls Calzaghe/Mosley an ATG.
He called Calzaghe one...... Not Mosley..... And just because I happen to agree on a certain subject with another person doesn't mean I agree on them all
No it's not. He then turns around and calls Calzaghe/Mosley an ATG.
Got to agree here.
If Oscar isn't an ATG, then Mosley definitely isn't.
And Calzaghe definitely isn't.

Great Question! First let me start by saying im Mexican American so the race card doesnt play with me
second
the reason why is because ignorant Mexican fans and ignorant boxing fans have hatred towards Oscar and are jealous of him because he won an olympic Gold Medal and became the super star that he is today. He is a good looking guy and has tons of money! Mexicans say he isnt a real mexican (whatever the Fawk That means) and his style isnt that of a real mexican (style being use your head for defense and hit and get hit until someone falls)
Oscar had great technique and did more for the sport than anyone today.
He gets dogged by ignorance on here andn in the general public
thats my take on it
and, technically, the first Pacquiao fight. It was a scoring error that benefitted Marquez.
I guess.... A scoring error couldn't have saved him from the Mayweather decision though
Is either Trinidad or Mosley an ATG??? Oscar also had a a lot of close fights with elite fighters in his time that you can argue he won because of his status..... Not necessarily ATG's but very good..... Nothing or no one on his resume can compare to Pacquaio at the time Oscar fought them imo
And the only clear loss Marquez has is to Mayweather
