I know I am going to get alot of hate for this but I really believe the Canelo the Ginger Mexican would have beaten Julian Jackson at 154lbs via UD. I think Canelo is too durable to have been beaten by Jackson and would have weathered the storm and won a comfortable UD.
What do you folks think?
gerald hit jackson right on the point of the chin and then finished him in the first fight which he was losing but, gerald had crunching power too... mccallum had heart and balls to stand at range with jackson and give it as well as take it... canelo can,t even be compared to either of those guys... close the thread...
"but uncle new england, how can you pick against canelo if you're a 'fan' of his."
what do the kids say these days?
jackson would - "whoop that trick?" -
the most important aspect of the style and ability of canelo, to the extent to which we know about the abilities of an untested 22 year old, is his lack of head movement. he does not move his damn head.
head movement is the most basic and important aspect of boxing with a puncher. you want to be a moving target so your opponent cant just haul off on you. more important than that, he doesnt FEEL like he can haul off on you, because he doesnt have a stationary object (your chin,) to target. if you're waiting for the punches to come against jackson to actually move your head it's going to be too late. if you're head is in the same place all the time it's eventually going to get smashed with a well timed right hand over your jab, or left hook between your gloves (two of jackson's best shots,) you need basic head movement and elusiveness. canelo doesnt look to be that sort of athlete. he's got a stiff torso and a flat base.
canelo is too much of a target to even hang with a puncher like jackson. the more i think about it, the less competitive i think it is. fifth or six rounds. KO. none of this ref stoppage ****. canelo on the ground.
and jackson is being overrated a bit it seems. it's canelo's style more than anything that leads me to believe that this is a mismatch. jackson is not a hall of famer or a great fighter. at his very best he was a very good jr MW, and one of, if not the hardest puncher of all time. very good. not great.
with either hand he could end a fight moving forward or backward, and with one punch only. he could throw twos or even threes, but he didnt need them to score the knockouts. guys didnt just go down, they lost consciousness. he used to point them to the ground as they fell. they were completely out. it's very rare to see a relatively world level opponent knocked out cold, but jackson would do it pretty regularly.
JJ gets really underrated on this forum, ppl act as if he was the edison miranda of his time, a great puncher with no chin or boxing ability. truth is JJ had one of the best chins of his era, only at the end of his career did he lose his punch resistance similar to mayorga, vargas or RJJ. but at his peak his chin was granite.
he had some quality boxing skills too, like a meldrick taylor he always wanted to fight and often chose not to use his boxing ability but when he needed to he was a solid boxer. he was such a dangerous fighter not just bcuz of his power but his timing, accuracy, combination punching, bodypunching and handspeed. add an iron chin, good fighting IQ and a big heart to that and you have a beast of a fighter.
theres a reason he was a top p4p fighter for years and was at one point 46-1 with 44 KOs. ppl dont seem to realize JJ is one of the 3-4 best 154lbers in history, he is right up there with hearns, mccallum, norris, winky etc. what has canelo done to put himself on that level?
matter of fact i dont see anything canelo does better than jackson, not a single thing. handspeed, bodypunching, combination punching, powerpunching.. everything canelo does well JJ did better.
canelo is a great talent and might one day be good enought to be compared to fighters of jacksons caliber, but hes got a long way to go.
Right now Canelo would get KO'd, maybe when he faces some real 154 competition and proves himself, as of right now Jackson mops the floor with the kid. Watch some of Jackson's KO's on youtube, don't really know how good Canelo's chin is. Canelo is fighting smaller guys, older and journeyman opponents, there is a reason Jackson is in the Hall of Fame.
This is just dumb. Wonder if the TS ever followed Jackson's career. His early KO lose was to McCallum and it took a while later to get KOed by McClellan.
If you rate the end of the Hawk's career in is where Canelo fights his opponents then he might have a chance.
Prime for prime the Hawk would KO Ginger in brutal fashion
yeah right
Alvarez has been scared to even fight guys at his weight class
he hasn't proven he has the beard to stand up to Jackson
Alvarez would get KO'd
red k for the thred starter
prime julian jackson would get through with something at sometime in the first half of the fight and then thats it - fight over!!!
Alvarez was rocked by Jose Miguel Cotto who belonged no where near 150
pounds.
The guy was a lightweight only a few fights before his fight with Alvarez and if he could rock Alvarez i have full confidence that Jackson would of put Alvarez to sleep in a fantasy match up.
Wow look at all these haters, that's how you know you've made it big. Selling out stadiums and getting massive views, even the haters are tuned in.
So we're haters because we don't think canelo can ud a prime Julian Jackson?
Lmfao.
**** outta here son.
We'd have to see how Canelo handles shots from the likes of Angulo, Kirkland, or maybe some hard hitting middleweights before we can really speak on the matter. Canelo is a bad no doubt, but he's still a work in progress and hasn't faced a lot of heavy handed guys.
when jackson got up in his later years he started losing his site in one eye but, he would still destroy canelo... now, in his early years the hawk was someone that you didn,t want to step in the ring with... you thought mike tyson had his opponents scared to death... p4p i think the hardest puncher to ever live...
