Floyd,
Their resumes are comparable, but the fact that hopkins took L's i cant count it as "oh well he fought a tough guy so he's better". A loss is a loss anyway u slice it otherwise Oscar would be G.O.A.T to some ppl.
then u take their some of their best wins - damn near everyone thought tito was gonna own dat ass. Hopkins mesmerized.
- damn near NOBODY saw the ass whoopin corrales had comming that night. dropped 5 times?
I think floyd is the better fighter. And mentally both are as strong as it gets.
Floyd however had most of his best wins coming up in weight and was almost always the smaller fighter (weight wise) coming into fights. Wasnt such the case in Hopkins big fights. That said Hopkins is still spankin as.s in his late 40's much respect to both.
It's real close. I voted for Floyd, but he barely squeaks by I think. Hopkins has the longevity & possibly a better resume, but Floyd is the better fighter. If Floyd can beat Canelo, and face 4 more good fighters in his final fights & win it'll definitely be Floyd.
whats the point of saying this when bhop lost that fight? u dont get credit for losses.
the point is people will lean towards floyd because he is undefeated, but hasnt had the challenges that hopkins faced,,, ala jones in 93, or a prime undefeated tito, or pavlik, or tarver, or calzaghe
so that is why i brought it up,, floyd has no one on his resume like a jones 93 or tito 01,,,,
corrales isnt the same caliber of fighter that tito or jones was,,, he is more like pavlik,,,,
JLC comes close, but still not a tito or jones level of fighter,,,,
So that is why i brought it up,,,,,
Hopkins took harder challenges than floyd,,

He's using it to validate that BHop fought stiffer comp, and that if Floyd had done the same (i.e. Forest, prime Mosley, or prime Pacquiao) he'd have a loss(es) as well. Like someone else said, Bernard fought every fight you'd want him to (sans Jones II when it mattered) and almost always came out victorious.
There are fights that could really move Floyd up the list though. The tragedy is he already believes he's the greatest ever, so we may never see them. In his defense, Canelo is a great start to turning that around.
Very slight edge to Bernard with Floyd able to leap up significantly in his last 4 or so fights.
One thing to keep in mind is that floyd has never, and i mean never fought anyone as good as roy jones 93............
floyd would have an L

Close. Mayweather.
In questions/discussions of this 'species', two of the most difficult aspects are: 1) To what extent do you allow factors beyond the control of the athlete to be used against them? and 2) Is allowing a purely subjective element to enter in (i.e. the 'eye test') considered as valid or not?
My sport in high school was basketball. Here's a bit of a parallel: IMO the four very greatest basketball players of all-time were (in alphabetical order) Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Larry Bird, Earvin Johnson, and Michael Jordan. When we discuss who was the greatest, many use against Kareem the fact that he, for about a decade, had Magic as a teammate. Against Magic they 'dock him points' b/c he played all those years with Kareem. Bird was a part of one of the best NBA front lines in history, with Parish & McHale, both Hall of Famers. Finally, though Jordan's supporting cast was not as strong for many years, when Jordan's Bulls won many of their championships, most would not deny that the competition was not at the level of the Lakers or Celtics of the '80's (or even Dr. J's 76'ers). In other words, we quickly run into factors beyond their control. My point is that one has to go beyond wins, losses, stats, and even championships, I believe, and admit the 'discernment of the eye' to play a part. Yes, it's subjective, yet I feel it has its place.
When I seek to do this concerning the Hopkins/Mayweather question, I give Floyd the edge. It's not reducible to a formula, but ... there you have it. My post is probably already too long, so I'll stop there for now.
Floyd has better skills and is more talented than Bernard! He is a more coordinated athlete and his eye hand conditioning is superior to Bernard also!
Currently they both bore me as to their styles but Floyd could open up if he wanted to but neither can go all out anymore. The fact that they choose their opponents very skillfully tells everyone that they can't fight throughout the distance anymore! Then again most young fans today don't witness hard fought fights from the welter thru the heavies! Everything seems so....planned
these days.
I'll take Floyd over Bernard physically & mentally but it is close! Ray
I agree with nearly your entire post but i think hopkins is one of the toughest mentally boxers i have ever seen,,,,
Floyd wont be doing what hopkins does at 40+....

B-Hop, Mayweather's career has been planned and made by only fighting sure wins. At least Hopkins took some chances.
Carefully planned? Lol guy fights the best sfw at 21 fights the second best one rite after. Fights Diego corrales when he was an absolute beast jumps a weight division and immediately fights the best lightweight, goes all the way up in weight and gives dog every concession in the book and beats him but that's all carefully planned? All those fighters were picked to lose rite? Statements like yours are kinda mind boggling
Who do you think would have won if they did fight??
I think Mayweather would struggle.
Very competitive fight, IMO.
Mainly because Wright's the much bigger man and brings things to the table Mayweather hasn't seen.
:lol1:
Guys try way too hard when they try and claim that Mayweather ducked Winky Wright.
When Winky Wright openly priced himself out and walked away from a 50/50 split. And not for the first time.
