I just recently had a discussion with a friend. I say Tyson personally. And yes I do believe tyson was an inside fighter. he was often the shorter fighter so he had to get in
Frazier and it's not debatable.
Mike Tyson was not even an inside fighter.
agreed
tyson wanted to be just far enough away to keep his hands free and knock a man senseless.
inside of the jab, but far enough away to keep from being clinched and generate full pow pow.
There's the misconception that Tyson was this overwhelming inside fighting force. He was amazing at GETTING inside to clinch against the "better" guys he fought and also great at getting into his own range. Because most of his opponents were always backing up he was always coming forward and getting into his optimal range and doing damage when he got there. Height differences also made it seem like he was fighting at closer range then he really was. Tyson's foot speed was insane, as was his lunge. He could disrupt by pushing forward and getting them to the ropes, or letting them back away on their own and letting them never get comfortable. A lot of in and out
I gave Tyson the edge. Frazier was mostly a great left hooker. Tyson was dangerous with hooks, uppercuts, and straight punches with both hands. Tyson's punches were a little harder, shorter and faster than Joe's punches. Joe looked hard at 205 pounds and Mike looked harder at 220 pounds. He was a bigger man than Joe. Frazier had more heart and stamina.
Tyson never fought inside, if your refering to him backing up the bums he fought in his first fights and getting close to them when their backs were on the ropes thats NOT fighting inside. Tyson grabed and held against the quality fighters he fought. He never really got that far in his education and he didn't want to engage inside. Being an inside fighter is pretty much lost these days the trainers and the fighters from the amatuer backgrounds don't know how to punch inside or hook a man up and walk him off or keep the ref on the free hand side while you hold the other side of your opponents best hand. No one is taught that so inside fighting is gone and I doubt it will return.
Frazier wasn't a great inside fighter he'd rather time a guys steps and jump in with the big hook. He was easilt tied up inside and hardly ever stepped around a guy who was trying to tie him up. Remember both Frazier and Tyson did have modern amatuer boxing back grounds were inside fighting was not allowed. Ray
Frazier was maybe the best inside heavyweight I've ever seen. (on video) of course. He understood to hit the body. Tyson had a good inside game but he also benefited from superior power and a gradual decline in heavyweight talent.
I'd say tyson is more of a midrange fighter he wouldn't stand with his head and your chest and pound the body like Frazier he would bob and weave at mid range bang his combos and step out Frazier basically stayed in your face in your chest.
Better question is who's a better midrange fighter Tyson or dempsey or Patterson.
Thank you. Larry actually said Tyson because he ripped the body. That was the biggest aspect of Frazier's game.
Frazier. Tyson was more of an in and out type of fighter, as a pure in fighter I think Frazier might have been one of the best the heavyweight division has ever seen. Especially with his work to the body.
:hail:
thank god someone said it.
fraizer, obviously.

Tyson had more in his arsenal than Joe imo,He had better hand speed and ripped the body
Exactly what I said. I have tonnes of respect for Joe. My top fighter I would have wanted to meet if he were still around. But I think Tyson is better in so many facets
