im following 2 boxers , not fighting each other but will fight on the same card in December. Im gonna try and do it like '24/7' 'behind the ropes' etc'
what thing are necessities for a boxing documentary ?
Start with a 360º shot of the place they were born. Cut to interview "How poor were you?". Say you were even poorer. Ask them what they know about their opponent. Ask them if he knows how poor he other guy is. Say you even are poorer. Cut to asking them about democracy as a concept. "Why isn't there any democracy in your country?"
You'll get the hang of it, don't worry. You don't want to be the guy asking softcore questions. If you want to be noticed you need to follow already tested guidelines. This isn't the only route but I'm sure this works.
What other things should be included ?
I'd say some good Rocky'esche training montages with some cool background music.
Here's my favorite from Rocky IV:
That's a stereotype. I was born in a rich family but I can't stand people who look down on others.
I've rejected anything materialistic ever since I was 8, and I've loved fighting longer than that.
I never said all, but you and I both know, boxers from 3rd world countries, or the Ghetto's of America outnumber by a VERY WIDE margin the Boxers who are born and live rich or wealthy.
It's just the nature of reality, and how survival by fighting is a must in those areas, and the aggression or behavioral issues are often suggested to be resolved by joining a boxing gym.
I didn't mean to offend anyone. Boxing is a sport for any and everyone, but when someone suggests a Boxer not to present what he's going through or had to go through that made him decide Boxing is a route he'd have to take to survive is an insult as well.
Don't let them talk about how poor they were....please...
And care to give names? Big time or small time boxers?
Get some good shots of these
-Good training shots
-Good sparring footage
-Trainer dropping some knowledge
-Highlight clips of previous fights
-Minimal personal scenes
-Good music
No matter how cliche this may seem, it's part of the sports history, fact is, Boxing is a poor man's sport. Who doesn't love a success story of rags to riches?..
Most kids from the Valley's, or rich areas don't wake up one day and say..hmm I wanna beat some kids face in, Most of the ones that do beat a kids face in is because they live oppressed and it's a necessity to survive.
Like the posters above said, show a lot of training and fight footage but also include the fighters talking about their social/cultural background, how and why they started boxing and what motivates them to compete in this sport.
good/appropriate music in the right places.
distinctive/well spoken voice over (with a good script)
training footage
personal stuff/outside the gym time etc
previous fight footage
