The amateur game is different to the pro game, much more about landing the scoring punches, only 3 rounds and head guards. Also stricter refereeing, adhering to the rules. you got it in reverse man. its in the pros where you can get credit for throwing punches in bunches and being aggressive regardless if you land cleanly or not. being ineffective but getting credit for pure acitivity. in the amateur ranks its all about pin point accuracy, you dont get any points at all for landing on someones arms and shulders in the ams. no credit for being more active, its all about precision. floyd got robbed in the olympics, he won the semi final big and they took it from him. he had been a great amateur for years leding up to the olympics though. i do agree he would have to somewhat change his style to box in the amateur ranks now, but so would almost any proffessional. it would be an insult to say they didnt as that would mean they never adapted to the pro ranks. floyd however with his skills, former amateur experience and ability to adapt to anything in a boxing ring would have a very good shot at doing well in the olympics. he would have to come out faster for sure and throw more punches but i dont see why he couldnt do that. he wouldnt have to be as careful in the ams against most opponents since they dont focus as much on power. at the end of the day his boxing ability is so far beyond everyone else i dont see how he isnt a favorite. shoe shining is a terrible style for amateur boxing, they wouldnt get credit for just staying busy they would have to land clean. The olympics 3 round system doesn't lend to that. That plus the headgear will allow Floyd's shoe shiner opponent to endure his power punching and counters. The practice of judging whether a punch "lands clean" is a subjective art. You say Floyd was robbed, which in all intents and purposes is true, he got the better of that fight; but I still hold that in an abbreviated fight, that is points driven only, the less active defensive fighter is at a instant disadvantage. Look at other gold medalists, Oscar and Ali. They took it to their opponents. Oscar had those fast aggressive combos, and Ali just outworked and decimated his opponent I believe. Neither fought defensively. If Floyd changed his game plan, he definitely has the tools to win by KO.. But it would be hard for him to win a decision for olympic gold. As evidenced from before. If yes, I think you should consider flipping them. Floyd is the one who is currently the 154 pound champ and Manny the one that would make 141 much easier.

A cert for the Gold Medal. pacquiao isnt that accurate unless his opponent stands right in front of him which nobody in the olympics would. in fact he struggles with lateral movement and if fights were just 8min alot of fighters could stay on their bike and outpoint him easily. especially considering his lack of height and reach which would be a much bigger disadvantage under the amateur system. combination punching like bodypunching unfortunately isnt effective in modern amateur boxing, its all about jabs and even more so potshotting. manny has a terrible style for amateur boxing, this isnt 1973. im not even sure manny would be a top 10 amateur in the wleterweight division and thats just counting the current pros, no chance for a gold medal whatsoever. guys like alexander, guerrero, marquez, berto, mike jones, kell brook and malignaggi would beat him. mayweather would outclass him. again, pacquiao has a terrible style for modern amateur boxing.

Great post. Some people saying Floyd need to understand the olympic system. Floyd doesn't have a style for Olympic gold. He'd get outworked and the judges would count punches landed on his arms while he in his shell. A shoe shiner with a jab could upset Floyd in the olympics. 147-154 version of Floyd wouldn't do well...but 130 version of Floyd would DOMINATE...but the scoring is so bad in the Olympics that you have to fight like Ward and B-Hop, you have to basically Be Physically and tear your opponent apart inside to do well in the Olympics

a lot of pro fighters today the way the scoring is in the Olympics, they would lose to unknown guys in the 1st Round seen today that Marcus Browne style is better suited for the PROS then it is for something like the Olympics, the Stick and Move Style Impressed Olympic Judges way back when Ali was fighting...but now you have to let your hands go, you have to be aggressive, sure you can win rounds but like Browne you only win they by 1 Point leaving your opponent in the fight in the Finally round to apply pressure and take the fight from you Andre Ward style is the most effective in the Olympics, because he knows how to get off Offensive but he also knows how to disrupt your Offensive and prevent you from even LANDING A PUNCH, people criticize the clinching but in the Olympics they allow you to get Physical inside and the FORCE YOU TO FIGHT INSIDE AND FIGHT OUT OF CLINCHES I think GGG and Ward would do the best out of the current Pros, as would Rigodeaux, Chemito Moreno and also Pablo Hernandez at Cruiserweight and also Bryant Jennings at Heavyweight because of his Speed also I think George Groves would do well with his style, also Austin Trout!
