I can't wait until this fight happens! This would be equivalent to Roy Jones Jr vs Floyd Mayweather Jr style wise. Its going to happen don't know what weight it will take place at but I will be attending live.
Broner would spark him. I hope all of these people screaming Gamboa's name actually put money down on him if they ever fight. That way I can get a great price on Broner.
I noticed that Gamboa is not hard to knock down but he does seem to have that Trinidad ability to jump up right away and fight like he never was down. His chin may be better than it seems. I have not seen look like he was hurt.
This is why when someone says Gamboa has a suspect chin I jump in and dispute it but there's only so much I could say as the evidence is there and he HAS been down multiple times. The KD's have been from him getting caught up in the crowd or in exchanges and being out of balance from being overly excited. But those KD's are like a light switch, he gets KD'ed and here comes El Ciclon, literally. :lol1:
Not once have I seen Gamboa hurt in ANY of those KD's.
i think that has been overstated. ponce was a learning experience. sure. but broner was barely 21 at the time and he was never in any trouble. not to mention hes improved vastly since then.
and i think, in comparing broner to floyd, ppl lose sight of what kind if fighter he truly is. hes a pressure fighter/boxer in the vein of winky wright and the like. that will be a tough style to crack for gamboa, and i doubt he'll look good doing it. but we will see.
What has been overstated? The result of the fight, or Adrien's performance? Do you think Broner won? It was a very close fight, but I felt that Ponce squeaked it out. As for Adrien's performance and subsequent improvement: I'd say he was fairly unimpressive, but has shown improvement. I think he would hold his own against Yuri, but I also think Gamboa is a greater and more seasoned talent. That said, as I've already agreed, anything can happen. They are both potential stars.
I agree with you. People do tend to think Broner is some type of slick boxer when he really isn't and you could see it vs Escobedo. Gamboa might have a suspect chin but in none of the times he was dropped did he look hurt. Not once. Even when Salido dropped him and look what Salido did to Juanma (that's a suspect chin). Now you can make the case that those guys don't hit as hard as Broner but I think Salido hits pretty damn hard and he was not able to hurt Gamboa.
Im sure you're tired of hearing this but look at Trinidad, how many times was he down in his career? What did he do every time he got up from those KD's?I noticed that Gamboa is not hard to knock down but he does seem to have that Trinidad ability to jump up right away and fight like he never was down. His chin may be better than it seems. I have not seen look like he was hurt.
If their fight goes to the cards, as it probably would, anything can happen. It's been just nuts nowadays; and Adrien has already benefited from a gift, in my opinion.

both fighters have advantages and disadvantages in this fight. anyone who doesnt see that is just simply being biased. is it an assured gamboa win? absolutely not. is it an assured broner win? absolutely not. i lean towards gamboa, but broner certainly has more than a shot. he has more than a few advantages over gamboa.

Agreed. Gamboa has more *pop* in his punches. I think that, among equally sized fighters, Yuri hits remarkably hard. If you apply the same criteria to Broner, he probably "only" has above average power. Gamboa's highest division might well be 135, while Adrien can easily fight as a welterweight some day.

I think Gamboa has more natural power than Broner, but Adrien's size puts more weight behind his punches.
But Gamboa is a more dynamic puncher, his power comes from his speed.
I like both fighters but I gotta go with Broner on this. Im assuming this fight would take place at 135 and I dont think Yuris chin holds up over 12 rounds. Yuris been dropped by lesser fighters in the past plus his defense if suspect. I think Broner wears him down.
We're so few in the sport, we gotta support strong.
Certainly. I don't deny that I root for my peeps; but I'm not blind, either. I try to be as objective as possible, but I recognize that I might be slightly biased at times. Everyone here is biased in some way, so there's no shame in that.
1st thing to understand is that I believe PDL beat broner. Now with that out of the way, broner is in fact much bigger than gamboa. i'd pick broner's clear size advantage, power & chin over gamboa's speed advantage, albeit slight. It is important for you to understand that I have no bias here & I like neither fighter.
But the fact is broner is bigger, stronger & I'm under the opinion that his chin is superior. The only advantage gamboa has is speed & not by much either.
I'm not sure Broner hits harder than Gamboa.
Tough to say. It kind of goes back to what we were discussing before: Is Gamboa likely to improve? I think Yuri is pretty much a finished product. Is there room for improvement? Certainly. I just think Gamboa's gone about as far as he's likely to go, in terms of boxing ability. I don't think any trainer can make a big impact at this stage. In fact, trying to force the issue could hurt Yuri.
I have no worries. I think Gamboa is an amazing fighter, regardless of any flaws. Yuri has improved his defecnce and, as in the Ponce bout, he's shown that he can win in a different style. Too bad Gamboa isn't a little younger, I think he's a special talent.
One thing he has improved on has been his recklessness. He still gets wild at time but he has settled down A LOT since he first started.
Maybe we are biased...but that doesn't mean we're not right. lol
Yea well, some times you can't help it. We're so few in the sport, we gotta support strong.
Seems like we took over this whole discussion and everyone else gave up. :lol1:
Yea well, Im just stating facts from what I've seen but most people would call it bias cause of my nationality I guess. :lol1:

There's always ways to beat the bigger guy if you have the tools and use them right. Whether you use them right or not then that's on you. That's what separates the good fighters from the avg ones.
To me the way that Broner would get Gamboa would be,if Gamboa gets caught up in the crowd and get wreckless just to be exciting, which he tends to do. It's a huge mistake obviously cause that's when he always gets caught. So Broner would have to force Gamboa somehow into trading and catch him there. But boxing wise, I just can't see Broner beating Gamboa.
I mentioned Gamboa can improve his D and remember there were rumors of Roger Mayweather training Gamboa and he's associated with Floyd as well, so how do you think those 2 influences will play out in Gamboa's already spectacular game?

Although I've only seen a handful of Broner's fights, I've noticed the same thing. Adrien also likes to pot-shot; he doesn't throw many combinations. I wonder how he'll react with a guy like Gamboa, who throws blazing punches in bunches, and with bad intentions. Yuri isn't likely to get walked down at all, in my opinion. I just don't see it.

It's kinda what I said. Gamboa has room to improve his D and stop getting wreckless a lot of times, which is one the KD's come. And Rigo can improve in being more aggressive.
When Broner comes forward with his guard up (not the shell) he's used to walking these dudes down against the ropes. Guys that seem to be intimidated and not as mobile as Gamboa. So when Broner tries to walk Gamboa down to the ropes, who has the footwork advantage, and doesn't find him there how will he deal with it? Gamboa can easily find a hole in that guard tag him as he moves forward and get out the way. That's how I see it in my head but maybe Im just being biased. From what Ive seen Broner doesn't counter very often when his opponent is on the attack. He usually lets them throw first then he throws.

Size and strength are advantages in any form of fighting, including boxing. There's an old saying: "A good big man will always beat a good small man." Tyson possessed attributes that outweighed his natural disadvantages. Does Yuri? I think so.
