I remember when I would make sure that where ever I was watching HBO fights I was going to be able to hear it. Now I can careless and sometimes just mute it. Even recently with Thurman I feel they are doing hype jobs everytime, and should have killed Broner way more for the way he approached his weight issue. Ever since "BAM BAM BAM" -Lampley I feel its decreased in quality. Do you think they just aren't the same and almost don't love the sport as much or Al Haymon/HBO putting the pressure on them to not say anything bad about their fighters?
BRITISH COMMENTARY IS THE BEST... None-bias even if one of their countryman is involved... No falsifying or manipulating what the audience sees, they only call punches that actually land cleanly, and they don't try to over-hype a glancing blow or an un-obvious miss (see: "BANG BANG BANG")
Okay I agree with you that Brit commentary is more accurate at calling landed punches, but the non-bias statement is the biggest load of crap.
I love Ian Darke and Jim Watt (prefer them to the HBO team) but the way they would call Hatton/Khan fights is very obviously biased. Primetime is much worse, they are the biggest slurpers around.
Yep its going overhand with the praising of fighters it does an injustice to the underdog fighter and the public. It is what it is. In the long run they do damage to boxing because hype jobs are going to crumble sooner or later and theyre opinion will be less and less credible as it is right now. And like it or not HBO is the network who carries boxing and they are the voice.
Kellerman and merchant are more upfront but lampley is on the landslide ugly!
I pay attention to them less and less these days. I just focus on the fight and tune them out, they become this background noise between punches.
Lampley is the worst of them, he just tries to make a particular fighter look good instead of just describing what he sees. Khan gets beat up by Garcia after his knockdown, he lands two punches and Lampley is like "and now Khan is taking over!". He ignores the other fighter's work and calls punches that don't even land or confuses headshots with bodyshots and vice versa.
I think it was in the Mitchell/Witherspoon fight that he called the KO punch a bodyshot when it was a chin shot. After he watched the replay he was like "my bad I couldn't see because the referee was blocking my view" or something like that. Motherfucka if you can't see then just say so, don't make shit up!
Merchant needs to be on there at all times
his quips are hilarious, especially during slow fights
the rest of the team is ok, but Lampley nuthugs too much
it depends on whether or not a guy one of them likes is fighting
That sounds like an interesting idea. Why was it taken down, something illegal about it?
I think you meant Lederman scoring cards.
probably some copyright bs.
Yea I don't like it either. Steward in particular is completely lost on what is going on. I like Kellerman and Merchant. Lampley can get annoying. Roy Jones always says stupid obvious ****.
yah lampley seems to be getting annoying with some of his commentary..i don't seem to mind the others so much though.

There was a guy who had a youtube channel but it was taken down. He used to edit the sound of some fights so u could hear everything except the commentary. U could hear the punches, cornermen shouting during the round, the ref, the crowd, with no interference from announcers.
Hope he starts it up again. I only watched a couple of fights he edited, but it was great to watch a fight that way.

I am a big RJJ fan but when he said" its not my place to say his weakness" when asked about Broner defensive weakness he should have been fired on the spot. The job can be very simple. Say what you see! ?Their hypejob and Merchant ridicoulus scoring card they do influence the way people think. Gus Johnson, teddy atlas and Max.

I don't mute the TV but I very seldom listen to these guys. Im too busy studying/watching the fight and fighters to pay attention to what they have to say. However, I do think it has something to do with HBO and Al Haymon.
They've been terrible for at least 5 years now and I stopped listening to them a long time ago. All they do is try to make you believe their agenda and ignore the truth, and they do it to such an extent that they completely ignore punches landed by the guy who they aren't hyping up (like Timothy Bradley vs Manny Pacquiao) and call punches that didn't land and act like they landed with extreme force when it comes to the guy that they are hyping up (like Victor Ortiz vs Floyd Mayweather). They're just such a joke and I will never listen to them ever again. Listening to music while your watching boxing is much more enjoyable. Listening to HBO's commentary is pointless and will just make you dissapointed and angry.
I completely agree with you. The commentary on hbo is becoming laughable - even the so called "expert analysis". I think Steward should be fired, he really doesn't have a good understanding of what's going on inside the ring. I couldn't believe he actually said khan made no mistakes during his ko loss to garcia. Now that was a ko just waiting to happen from openning bell. Right now the only good commentator hbo have is roy jones.
Exactly the same with me, some time ago I wasn't even watching fights live in Polish television because I prefered to wait for it to appear on forums in HBO broadcast. Now I can't stand those guys. Jim Lampley is annoying as hell and ridiculous. (Lora is tougher fight than Maidana would be... huh?). I like British Sky Sport commentators of late, they keep their level.
