The only people that are on this site saying weights don't matter, 3 pounds doesn't matter yada yada, are the ones trying to excuse Adrian broner's behavior and lack of respect for the sport's rules and his opponent across from him. That is all.
come on bro be real - Hatton never had a chance in hell at beating canelo. It mattered nothing if Canelo was a little overweight. Like I said life went on though. Just like life will go on with broner/escobedo. You're making a big deal over such a small issue.
Whether Hatton or not had a chance is irrelevant. And, did Cotto make weight the next day?
This is true. One other thing that made me sick was how Oscar hopped on twitter and fired up the spin machine. I told him to stop it, boxing fans aren't stupid as to what was going on. Maybe I was because I still tuned in lol
He ALWAYS does that. LOL...I guarantee you he picks Josesito Lopez to pull the upset on 9/15.
It seems like people were so excited to see Adrien Broner lose this weekend that they hyped up Escobedo to be better than he really is. Now that the fight was a complete domination there crying over Broner's pre-fight antics and using that as "the excuse".
I don't condone what Broner did but Escobedo has always been a solid basic fundamental boxer but nothing special. The fight would have been a massacre weight issues or no weight issues.

I am a Broner fan and didn't like the fact that he was overweight. Missing weight is very unprofessional and sometimes disrespectful. But let's be honest here the weight had NO affect on the outcome of the fight. Broner is just a much better boxer than escobedo plain and simple. Without out the weight advantage the fight may have went 6 instead of 5. Escobedo got double the pay for a beating he was going to take regardless, he still is the wbo #1 contender and not to mention the world feeling sorry for him; despite the loss it sounds like he won last night.
Right now I will give Broner the benefit of the doubt that he has just out grown the weight class but if this happens again, he may lose me as a fan.
**** Escobedo did NOT have to fight and I would not have blamed him.
Let's take a guy who was even younger (21) - Canelo was overweight for his catchweight fight with Matthew Hatton. He took some flack for it at the time (like Broner) but life went on. Was it unprofessional? Yep. Did it really matter? Not really (it was Matthew Hatton after all).
Of course it mattered it was a farce irrelevant to who the opponent was. Did Canelo fail to make weight the next day?

What do you think about Erik Morales not making weight for Garcia and saying he didn't even try to shed the pounds off, because then it would have affected him in the fight. Does Morales get a pass?
I give Mayweather a pass. Yes some fighters get a pass. Because, of their age and accomplishments and what they have done. Why should I give Broner the benefit of the doubt that great fighters who have put in work like Floyd and Morales who will be first ballot Hall of famers get? Does Broner deserve that pass? Has he earned that right?
Are we really going to compare a guy in his 30's who is well beyond the tail end of his career or a guy in his 30's who was coming off long layoff in a catch-weight fight to a 22yr old, who takes pics of twinkies and Twix ice cream and fails to make weight TWICE? Is that the comparison we're going to make? Wow.
Regardless of the weight, he won the way he should have, but he shouldn't have been able to break the rules like that.
And it's more than obvious what his intentions are inside and out the ring, a damn near carbon copy man..
Did you see his tee shirt he wore to the ring? He's a d1ckrider through and through. We have a Floyd mayweather jr already. There's only 1.

Eric morales is an old warhorse. He's earned his slip ups with time, blood and sweat. Oh yeah, he's a future hall of famer also. But I get your point. Contracts don't mean much anymore when fighters don't follow the terms they signed. Credibility in this sport is falling by the wayside.
Is not about liking or not liking Broner. is about being a fan of the sport or not being a fan of the sport. Whether or not Broner would have won regardless is irrelevant. The level of fighter Escobedo is, is irrelevant. Whether it would have been a tough fight or not is irrelevant. If 3 pounds don't matter then he should have came in weight in EITHER of the TWO weigh-ins.

And everyone is right about Escobedo. He was supposed to lose. He wasn't going to beat broner but he was supposed to represent a step up in competition. All that being true, how come broner didn't even try to make weight? He still would have won.
So... is this an attempt to down play the fact that he was over 3 pounds the contracted weight
Or by saying escobedo wasn't that good takes credit away from broner?
Either way its a lose lose for broner
Rios and Morales were overweight in their fights against Abril and Garcia respectively, but they lost anyway.
Ok, Escobode never stood a chance. But broner is unprofessional & acts like he's God's gift to boxing & his career isn't exactly shy of controversy. He's immature & should have never headlined an hbo card acting the way that he does.

Its just funny that some broner fan actually think JMM won't give him a challenge.
Borner, a guy who has only fought a good guy once in his career (ponce de leon)
and after that he reverts to fight no names, people who are there just to make this bozo look great. this kid is going to get snapped in 2 eventually
The weight didnt matter in this fight because Escobedo was always suppose to lose. Theres a reason he was a 16-1 underdog
To me its just the principle of the matter. I hate seeing situations like that and then seeing the Broner act like an ass hole the whole time
sometimes 3 pounds doesn't matter, sometimes it does. It's irrelevant because Escobedo is not a very good fighter. He was never going to win in the first place. people are crying cuz they don't like broner. Sorry to tell you but Escobedo is a C class fighter.
