De La Hoya was a southpaw!?

For myself, even though I'm right handed, I have more power in my left. So I would stand in a southpaw stance. Mike's left hook was his strongest punch and so are a lot of other conventional boxers. true story

Camacho Sr was really right handed...I think Donaire is left handed as well...Joe Frazier was a lefty, Clottey and Kessler are lefties...Winky, Russell Jr and Rigo are right handed...its kinda common to be converted today I remember reading somewhere that it was an injury that frazier sustained on his left arm as a kid that gave him that left hook...he like broke his left arm and it didn't heal properly and as a result he couldn't extend it fully, so he had the advantage of not having to bend his arm to throw a hook because it was already slightly bent..

you'll find more converted southpaws than u will converted orthodox fighters. Guys who turned southpaw do it for the obvious technical advantage. Natural lefties who fight orthodox many times do it because there are a lot of trainers who can't or won't instruct a southpaw fighter. Guess they don't like to talk about it cause anyone I fought you wouldnt know shat, or guys in the gym I came up with, they just say hey im southpaw or im orthodox and thats that.

I could swear. Andre ward is a lefty fighting orthodox as well right?

from what I understand, no one really knew how to train him as a southpaw.. so they trained him orthodox.

Theres also a practice thought in boxing which recommends in having your stance be led by your strongest hand being closeist to your opponent so that your target becomes closer to your strong hand. Am not saying this, am just saying this thought is out there. I personally, this stance feels weird, but for some it works. In MMA, fighters tend to switch stance to lead with their dominant hand when preparing for a takedown attempt. So the same principle is applied on other sports.

Thats why Cotto and Dela Hoya have monster left hooks. Some of the best left hooks in the business.

cotto is a natural lefty too thats why his left jab is so good And his right hand sucks. Thats the problem with a ton of converted southpaws I've sparred with. (cotto's vice versa but you get the point). Their back hand which in theory should be their dominant hand often isn't.

He only writes right handed because of a crazy old Catholic belief still followed in Philippines that people who write with their left hand are evil. It is a learned thing from his elementary years, he is a natural lefty in everything except writing. Wow that is intense lool. If someone forced me to suddenly write left handed I've give up.

There are lots of great fighters that are converted left handers. Sonny Liston, and Trinidad are both left handed as well as Cotto and many more.Victor Ortiz and Winky Wright are right handed fighters that fight from a left handed stance.
