"I’ve kind of been experimenting with power and with counter punching a lot and just trying to do something different that I could bring to the table with the much tougher guys. The last three fights weren’t dangerous for me, with a better fighter I’ll be a lot smarter; you can kind of experiment with and I took the chance to learn from it so now I’m a more fighter. So when I do fight with someone on top like Mares or Rigondeaux, I’m definitely going to be the you’ve always seen. My performance suffered because of the but when I do fight someone who I feel is going to give me a hard time all that knowledge will come in handy."
So basically, his last three fights were practice matches.... well that's good to know. And now that you want to face Arce, we can make it 4.
Also admits his opponents weren't real opponents or dangerous at all.
Thanks Nonito, number 3 P4P

the fact is, and its a sad one, donaire picks ppl he thinks he can knock out. its obvious, clear as day. picking ths outsized super flyweight champ, the little more than prospect pr fighter that had just gotten tkoed, and then mathebula, yea, he picks these guys so he can look good and increase his notoriety. however, so far its been backfiring. whats really gonna happen is hes gonna finally step up against someone whos good and get out shown.
Donaire also weighted 116,5 for that fight, so in reality it was 1,5 pounds difference from regular opponents of Narvaez at 115. It was legit fight, Narvarez is pretty good.
nah it wasnt. donaire killed himself to make 115 years. he probably outweighed narvaez in that fight by a good 10lbs. there was no way narvaez was winning that fight. i dunno a single person who thought he would.
Nish, Mares, Rigo, and in that order
fuck Arce, no point to that fight
rematching Mathebula would be better
A Mathebula rematch is sadly a possibility is more likely than Donaire - Mares due to the stupid feud between GBP and Top Rank. There is not a good reason why Donaire can't fight Nishioka or Rigo, that would be all on Donaire. Donaire's team and promoters have a say but Donaire should be able to get a fight especially with another in-house fighter if he really wants it.
Does anybody know how the TR and Rigo contract negotiations are going?? I hope there's a provision that Rigo gets to fight Donaire I want to see that fight..
If Donaire wants to experiment, let him do it in sparring. I don't want to buy fights to see him play around.
Best should fight the best, and no one else until that's settled.
To be fair... it's just as hard to sell Mathebula and his only selling point was that he had a belt
Right now Donaire would make about as much money fighting Rigo than he did fighting Mathebula. When the task is more difficult you deserve more money, what's so complicated about that.
I agree man, all these mismatches are not doing so well with the boxing Gods. I hope everyone that's supposed to win, loses this year.
so far that's how it's kind of been...tavoris cloud vs campillo (campillo should have won but was robbed), brandon rios vs abril (abril was robbed), sonny boy jaro vs wonjongkam, ortiz vs lopez, and now khan vs garcia etc. etc.
I think that's highly unlikely.
I think Arce is next because Donaire is in desperate need of a fight where he looks good.
definitely i think donaire is fighting arce next...hopefully after that he fights either nishioka or rigo.
Donaire needs a look good fight desperately , can't pass this up
Man, I hope these mismatches (Donaire/Arce, Canelo/Lopez) backfire on TR and GB. **** all these stupid match-ups.
I don't understand why Arum can't just match Rigo with Arce, and have Donaire fight Nishioka.

Rigo's performance in his last fight was astonishing. But from a business standpoint it'd be hard to sell it since Rigo is not a known name, plus if Donaire takes a loss to this guy with only 10 wins, his career might take a hit. This is why he's fighting Arce, just more cherrypicking and safe opposition by Top Rank's matchmakers.
I would love to see him fight Mares.

Excuses, excuses, Look Nonito, ur overrated, and thats Why Madula was able to crash on ya azz in some of those rounds..I never seen a bum as bummy, clumsy, sloppy as Mathela in my life...never even heard of the guy, but he made u look stoopid
but but but.... Donaire was 112 once... so it was a fair fight

Personally, I just want to see him keep moving up. I'd prefer he'd fight the best while doing it, but really he is an excellent yet extremely overrated fighter. The thing that drives me nuts is whenever he gets asked about tough guys in his current division he starts talking about moving up and whenever he gets asked about tough guys in the division above him he talks about staying at the same weight for awhile.
People who don't know much about Narvaez will knock that fight, it is what it is.
I think he's alright, but he was severely outsized against Donaire, one could even say criminally outsized. I knocked Narvaez for his performance, but had he fought any other way, he would have inevitably been knocked out in my opinion.
I didn't say he shouldn't have to be in difficult fights, especially when just fighting, itself, is difficult.
He moved up to challenge himself. One thing that has happened immediately is those knockouts where you're thinking "it's just a matter of time" have stopped. In both of his fights at the weight, he has face opponents that took the single shots that completely decimated fighters just four pounds down.
I would have advised him to stay at 118 a couple of more fights to further build your brand instead of constantly weight-hopping and belt chasing.
He has three fighters that are considered tops at 122 but, iirc, he only wants to have two more fights at the weight before testing 126, where his power will be further diminished.
Being 29 with 30 fights makes this almost his prime years. I want him to fight more often so I can see him display his skills more, that also means I can't expect him to fight a world-beater every time out.
Again, maybe that's just me but, as a fan AND a student, I want to see more and, when he does fight those world-beaters, he'll be sharper for it.
I hate fighters fighting once or twice a year.
I don't mind Donaire fighting a guy like Mathebula, if only that leads him to being more active. Him leaving 118 probably had to do with him growing out of the division more-so than him looking for better fights. The only relevant opponent he fought at 118 was Montiel (I guess you could count Narvaez too). He could've cleaned out the division, but he moved up instead. It seems like he's gonna do the same thing at 122. Mathebula and Arce are not serious opponents, sure he can use those fights to experiment with his style and see what works and what doesn't, but who really expects them to beat Donaire? Donaire sounded slightly arrogant in the interview, stating that no matter what, he has a guarantee and he'll get paid regardless of the caliber of his opponent. It's the truth, but he seems to relish the position he's in and will use it to his advantage whenever the opportunity arises.
