The dude is 37 years old....in boxing terms he's an old man....
or is he the exception???
I think Chavez got some things going for him...size, power, age....
roach, chavez jr, and arum are banking on that fact because they wouldn't have taken this fight. even with the stoppages, sergio has looked vulnerable at times in his last 3 fights, in my eyes.
SMH.....Chavez is a limited boxer who uses his size to pin guys against the ropes to work the body. Martinez is a vastly superior ring technician with sharp, straight , accurate punches. Chavez will lose the first 4 rounds anyway because he starts slow. He will try to push the action but find that Martinez actually has a longer reach than he does and he will get countered with the left. By the 6th round his face will be bleeding and his eyes swelling shut. Once Sergio starts to double and triple up the punches, Chavez will start moving backwards because of the blood and shrinking confidence.
Chavez' corner stops it around the 9th or 10th
No, starting at an older age, and not having a large amount of amateurs fights is good for a late fighter in my point of view. Not as much damage done from amateurs like some and as long as he has the will to win!
The fight may be tougher than previously thought but I am going with Sergio. His style of fighting and movement do not lend to Jr.s fighting style. Jr.s best punch is the left hook to the body of course which the way Sergio leans forward with his hands down, Jr. won't be landing much of those. Also Sergio won't sit on the ropes and let Jr. bang him around. Jr. does have a good chin so far so we will see how it holds up when those overhand shots keep coming. If Cintron, Pavlik and Williams shots could not hurt or stop Sergio, I highly doubt Jr.s will. I could see the fight going to the cards actually and I would think Sergio would win on the cards but as we have seen you never know what judges are seeing. Remember, Jr. is an undefeated Arum cash cow so, and now with Pac basically out of the picture for Arum now for the most part, if this goes to decision, you may see a Jr. win. I think Jr.s mystique is a lot like Floyd's, the minute they lose, a lot of the interest (i.e. $$) will be lost. Sergio better make damn sure this does not go to the judges or he may be screwed. Sergio has mid fight lapses though so he better be prepared because Jr. will be coming relentlessly and try to bully him around the ring.

he hasn't been through too many wars and he started late by boxing standards, plus he's slick so he doesn't get hit cleanly too often... so no.
