“The fight with Miguel Cotto went pretty much how I
expected,” said Steward, who trained Cotto for a
two-fight stint. “Miguel is back to his old style,
fighting with his head too low and not utilizing his
boxing ability nor his height. He was fighting as
though he was 5’7 and Floyd utilized his skills, defense, and actually, if Floyd would have stepped it
up a bit he could have stopped him in the last round.
Floyd came through, I was very impressed.”
Lol I thought cotto had the perfect gameplan, used his jab very well and applied lots of pressure, he could have used his right hand more after setting up with those jabs but overall he looked better with Diaz then he did with steward.

Steward is an overrated trainer. What I don't like is when he's calling a fight and he say's the fighter doesn't look good his balance is off he looks dry. it's only the first round every time he picks a fighter to win he loses. Just like his fighters. I used to think he was a jinx.
Why, because they're both pr?? I think everyone is giving Diaz a lot of credit just because of how humble of a trainer he is.
Diaz is not a Puerto Rican bro. You need to stop assuming so much.
Steward aint shlt for a trainer. And i cant wait for HBO to can his azz. Dudes a bum trainer! Everything that come out his mouth is a joke!
Wow, really? Slap yourself.
No dude mayweather would have picked him apart IMO.... Steward is a good trainer but the guy sometimes just cracks me up. Let's just say Diaz fits Cotto perfectly

some slick stuff again.
Dude been a over rated trainer.
how is he overrated? hearns, lennox, wladimir all were at their best under him & are all HOF's after he trained them...he led oliver mccall to his upset of lennox too then left him to train lennox...most trainers don't have 1 HOFer they led to glory...he has 3
Dude, Stewart said Cotto should have boxed more against Floyd. Do you have a clue how detrimental that would have been??
I just said Cotto was fighting smarter when Steward was his trainer
That would depend on how he fought, he could have still been aggressive but been a bit smarter about it and worked on avoiding Mayweathers counter right.
Cotto fought a great fight. To me the fight was dead even entering the 9th. (I had Cotto up a round) actually. But the problem with Cotto that no trainer has fixed is his stamina. He allowed Floyd to sweep the last 4. Regardless, it was clear Cotto wasn't going to get any credit for anything he did anyway. I do know that if he tried to box more he would have been picked apart.

I would hardly say he had the perfect game plan to beat Mayweather and that he used his jab very well.
I agree with Steward. The only fights when Cotto fought different was against Mayorga and Foreman when Steward trained him....now his back with his head low and his weird dancing footwork....I ike Pedro Diaz but Steward was better trainer for Cotto imo

Probably but with enough time Steward would have made him a better fighter overall. He could always drop back into old style Cotto if plan A didn't work.
Cotto did go back to his old style and if he was training with Steward he would have been more cautious and wouldn't have got hit half as much.

Overrated? Overrated is guys like Freddie Roach, Roger & Floyd Mayweather Snr, Nazim Richardson. Steward would make any top 20 ATG trainer list.
