I don't mean which was the better performance (cause that would be Ali since he KOed Foreman) but the better win.
You have Ali beating an undefeated, prime and seemingly indestructible Foreman and Leonard coming back after 5 years of retirement to go straight for Hagler without a tune up (Hagler hadn't lost in over 10 years).
In both fights, people feared for the safety of the eventual winners.
Hagler is a far greater fighter than Foreman, based on ability and all time greatness(only a complete and utter retard would dispute that) - and a faded, inactive, blown up welterweight outboxed and beat him when he was universally regarded as the very best in the sport.
Leonard's victory over Hagler is one of the absolute greatest victories in the history of this sport, regardless of silly revisionist history.
As mentioned already, Ali stopped Foreman whereas Leonard won a disputed decision.
But also, the public perception of Foreman at the time I think was greater than that of Hagler. He tore through the division and had 2 quick knock outs over 2 of the best heavyweights of the time, Norton and Frazier. 2 guys who gave Ali trouble so Foreman was considered invincible.
Whereas with Hagler, some people were beginning to think he had begun to lose a step or two following his war with Mugabi. SRL was also one of those people, he has said that was one of the reasons he took the fight. To me, that takes something away from it. He was basically admitting he fought Hagler when he thought Hagler was a little past his best.
I actually thought the Leonard-Hagler fight was close and have never understood the huge outcry. Seems to have gotten much worse over the years.
:dunno: Legendary Nights maybe.?.?.?

Was a 3 year retirement before the Hagler fight, not 5.
Ali over Foreman, because hardly anyone thought Ali had any chance going in. That edges it for me. Both are wins over ATG's and huge defining wins though.
Hardly anyone thought Leonard had any chance going in either.
Ali clearly won
they Bradley'd Marvin

I did have Hagler winning though.
And to the answer the question, It's Ali.
Ali easily. I thought Hagler won the fight. Hagler offered Leonard a fight years before. Hagler was a great champion who fought the toughest challengers 3 or 4 times a year. Leanard waited for Hagler to slow down from all those hard fights while he sat on the sidelines. From what I read, Leonard stayed in shape and trained during those years with one goal in mind. That goal was to beat Hagler. Then Leonard refused to give Hagler a rematch. Anyone who knows Hagler's record knows he was deadly in rematches.

Larry, you kind of answered your question in your original post.
Ali had the greater win because he actually stopped his opponent. Some feel Hagler was robbed.
A better question would've been, who was the better fighter at the time; Foreman or Hagler.
Hagler was one of the greatest MW champions while Foreman was one of the greatest HW's.
At the time, I would say the Foreman victory was better. He was Mike Tyson before Mike Tyson.
Foreman actually beat great fighters in there prime, Tyson didn't.
And Foreman was Liston Mk II
And is this a serious question?
The answer is oblivious and it ain't even close.
