Cotto is looking to make history and become the first Puerto Rican boxer ever to win titles in 4 different weight classes. This fight is being consider by Cotto's camp and it would probably be a catchweight of 156. Who is this french dude? what does he bring? Is he a big Midleweight?
What's the point of having a Floyd rematch? NONE! Just like Mosley/Margarito3rd fight didn't need a rematch with Cotto cause they were "clear" victories according to his fan base.
I'm not saying there is a point to it. I'm just saying the money he would make would trump anything N'Dam N'Jikam could bring to him. He wants big money fights and he's earned them.
HBO will not do that. They can promote this fight alone by saying Cotto is looking to make history by becoming the first Puerto Rican ever to win tittles in 4 different divisions and let's not forget this dude is a top 5 160 pounder. If Cotto wins this fight it sets up a mega unifition fight against the winner of Martinez-Chavez Jr.
lol your fucking delusional, keep dreaming.
on paper it sounds good but at 140 he won a vacant title..at 147 he won 2 vacant titles and at 154 he beat a 1 legged Jew for a title.now they want the weakest mw title holder at a 156 catchweight???? cotto has good names on his resume but he never BEAT anyone worth mentioning for a title...if he wasnts a mw title he should fight Sergio-Chavez winner or atleast Sturm
good post....
Matter of fact this is a bit*h move for Cotto of all people now that I think about it. He says he doesn't want to harm his body by fighting Manny at 150 and then wants to fly a weight drained N'Jikam to NYC from overseas to take his title.
Very hypocritical indeed.

N'Jikam has never fought outside of France. There must be huge dollars involved if he comes to MSG to fight the crowd favorite Cotto at a catchweight.
That's 3 things stacked against N'Jikam who is the champion. He's assuming all the risks in this fight:
-Leave his home for the first time
-Fight a crowd favorite
-Fight 3-4 pounds lower than normal
If this fight happens, Cotto should fight him at 160 which would be difficult.
I just don't see like the CW and the fact that there is alot of contenders at 154 for him to fight. He won't get any credit for winning it at a catchweight and he could make alot more money fighting Mayweather II or Canelo.
If Cotto does take this fight and wins the fact that he gets a bs title at a cw does nothing for his legacy to anybody who really watches boxing. This is a bad move for Cotto imo if this is what the plan is.
He's not winning a decision at the Garden.
People always say that but in reality Cotto has never been given a gift at MSG. Mosley fight was a clear victory and Clottey was very close but no robbery.
I love how Cotto complains that he didn't feel right having to absolutely make 145 against Pacquiao, but wants to bring N'Jikam down from 160 to 156??? Really???
N'Jikam is a good fighter, a Top 10 MW. But if Cotto wanted to make history in better fashion, he should fight the Pirog/Golovkin winner or the Geale/Sturm winner instead.
that wouldn't be the opponent to try and win a Championship against at 160, he has a style similar to Yuri Foreman, a stick at move style...BUT he is much faster and more athletic then Foreman and he is much bigger and has more Power then Foreman...IMO I thought Foreman was doing very well against Cotto before the Knee Injury
N'Dam N'Jikam would beat Cotto by UD at 160 IMO, at 154-156 Cotto would have a much better chance but I still think N'Jikam style would be extremely difficult for Cotto to deal with especially if he has to chase him around for 12 Rounds
someone posted "Felix Sturm" yes I think that would be a better match up for him from a stylistic standpoint
The catchweight was not the biggest spectacle in that fight. It really never was. The only thing remotely similar is the catchweight. Everything else is worlds apart.
So what does that make Cotto for requesting a catchweight for his 154 belt against a recently butchered cheater non contender with 1 good eye? Can you think of another fight with the champ asking a non top 10 guy in his div for a cw? I can't, help me out.

The vacant thing is the past.We all know he's defended his titles well 95% of his career.I could understand if he won them and DEFENDED it against bums his whole career but that's not the case.Mallignaggi,Judah,Clottey,Mosley,Margarito are all good names under his belt. He's only lost 2 times at the hands to 2 ATG's, Mayweather and Pacquiao.Cotto might possibly be the boxer who has fought the most well rounded guys. He's never failed a test, and most of all actively the only good veteran who can still give WW's and some Jr MW's a good run.
A lot of guys make the assumption that catchweight titles are not common, they are. They also assume that that was the biggest problem with Pacman's 8th division title, it wasn't. 156 is kind low, 157 158 is pretty much decent. I'd take the 4th division title over a 154lb fight if I were Cotto.:boxing:
I agree with this. If N'dam is willing to shed the extra few pounds, and he can do it in a healty manner, why not? The Middleweight LIMIT is 160, that doesn't mean that 2 fighters can't enter a contract with a weight stipulation.
It would be better for them to weigh the same weight than it would be for there to be a 4 pound gap in weight. N'dam weighs in about 2 pounds under the LIMIT anyways.
I hope this fight gets made; so long as the winner tries to make a legitimate claim of being champ in their next fight.

So what do you think HBO will do. Pay out the ass for this fight and put it on WCB?
You think Cotto is gonna give himself his own guarantee to make this a PPV? Cause remember, he doesn't have a promoter anymore and it's no guarantee that GBP or TR would work with him on this fight. And would HBO even come on board for a PPV?
Seems like it would be tough to do, logistically.
