Miguel Cotto could return to his second home and against a known opponent.
The Madison Square Garden in New York looks like the scene of the ring return of former junior middleweight champion on Dec. 1, possibly against Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Gabriel Penagaricano, Cotto's legal advisor, said that New York is one of the places that the boxer from Caguas is considering for his next bout.
"We're pretty close to finalizing a few things and we will be making an announcement early next week on the site. New York has always been one of the favorite places of Miguel and has many fans, "said Penagaricano.
As for the possible opponent, the attorney said only that "it is somewhat premature."
Last May, Cotto lost a unanimous decision to Mayweather in a fight that was presented in Las Vegas, Nevada. In fact, the fight generated sales of 1.5 million pay per view, the second highest amount out of the non-heavyweights PPVs.
He has at least one clear option otherwise though, in Alvarez. I wanted to see Cotto rather than Alvarez earlier this year, well now it's Alvarez's turn. And he could always move back down and take a gimme, someone like Alexander. No matter the circumstances, I don't want to see any rematch of a fight that a guy won as clearly as Floyd did.
I would mention Pacquiao or Martinez, but we know that's not happening, especially not as his first fight out of jail.
Oscar himself said they didn't want that fight at this point. Alvarez is definitely looking to step up from the looks of it, but not to an opponent of Cotto, Lara or Mayweather's level, more Kirkland, Williams and Ortiz's, though 2 out of those three are now crossed out.
As for the bold, that isn't likely to happen, a Cotto rematch generates a lot more money and interest. Or maybe he'll face Guerrero after Robert dominates Aydin. He's Mexican, talks crap, so that's likely to go through. From the getgo I've been saying it's gonna be Guerrero or a Cotto rematch.
I don't, but it's like people are also oblivious to the fact that Mayweather's options are limited, not many opponents out there. It was still a very entertaining fight, so I'm not at all against the rematch.

Does anyone honestly believe Cotto would do better the second time?

There's like 5 threads on this already.
And we've already determined that it's a garbage fight, no use for a rematch when Floyd won 10-2I agree. It's a money maker but I think only Cotto's many fans want this fight. Most consider it a mismatch and want Floyd to fight someone new.
Why would people even these things? Only websites run by morons would have even posted that information. Mayweather would NEVER fight in a state where his 40-60 million will get TAXED. The story would have been more believable with Cotto-Canelo at MSG
I would like Cotto to fight Sergio if sergio beats Chavez, and then retire.
Its the winner of that fight, or Pacquiao and Floyd rematches!!
The hell with Canelo, let canelo fight someone decent first!
That's a maybe only if Cotto is willing.
I don't care to see either rematch
Cotto should be wanting to face Canelo right now.
Yea.... which Floyd won't make in NY.
He can make far more money in LV. If Cotto wants a rematch, then he should fight and beat Canelo.... who he should fight in MSG Dec. 1

Cotto won 4 rounds atleast and busted floyd's face up, plus the money they generated is asking for a rematch!!
I rather Cotto fight Martinez if Martinez beats Chavez jr.
Or a Pacquiao rematch!
