With the loss of Victor Ortiz? I just remember hearing before the Ortiz-Mayweather showdown that all we kept hearing was Floyd only fought nothing but the best and how he went after this strong young lion? So does the loss to Lopez have any effect on Floyd?
Berto is a HUGE Puncher, and he barely phased Ortiz...when he had him hurt, Ortiz took several clean shots, WHILE rejuvinating, and he crushed Berto with one punch..Ortiz beat the dogshiet out of Berto, then Floyd chased Ortiz around the ring! Floyd dominated JMM So bad, that he gave the impression that no matter WHAT weight, he would still be far too skilled for him...That was one of Floyd's most tactically, extraordinary performances, and made JMM look SUPERSILLY!!!
It showed that Ortiz can get hit very easily for one. Secondly, Ortiz fought only Berto at WW .... a Berto that many were ridiculing here at BS because of his resume ...
Ortiz needed more time before taking on a Floyd. If you saw the Peterson fight ... you would notice that Ortiz was getting countered by Peterson easily .... some moves Peterson made were text book Floyd moves (eg. pull-counter) .... so all you needed to ask yourself, imagine if Floyd is in there with Ortiz?
If Berto had better defense, we may have seen Ortiz lose or quit again!
Don't get me wrong .... I like Ortiz as he has given us some exciting fights .... but he was too green/naive/not ready to fight Floyd .....
As for Marquez, it was uncharted territory .... he moved up 2 weight classes and was 2 fights away from moving up 3 weight classes. It was a disgrace on Floyd's part to ask Marquez to move up .... but just like Floyd fans bought "Ortiz is #2 WW", they bought "Marquez is #2 P4P fighter"
I think Floyd gets more props for beating Marquez now post Pacquiao vs Marquez III and that offsets Ortiz who probably is same level win as Floyd beating Judah
That's exactly how I look at it right now. Any hit people might think he took because of Ortiz's loss would be offset by the gain after Pac-Marquez 3.
this lion?

F***, I can't green k you. :lol1:
I don't think it did, Ortiz wasn't a good opponent because he was a threat, he was a good opponent because he was the best non Pacquiao fighter in the division. It didn't matter that Floyd was going to beat his ass.
That monster went down twice against that same Berto!!! That should have been enough proof that Ortiz was NOT ready to fight Floyd ....

the win over Ortiz did nothing for his Resume to begin with
Ortiz wasn't anything special to begin with, he was just at the right place at the right time and was coming off of a good match with Berto
I think it's unfair to criticise Floyd for Ortiz losing to Lopez, I get what your trying to say but at the end of the day at the time Ortiz was a credible opponent, he looked like a monster against Berto, Floyd took him on straight away so in that sense he was taking a challenge.

Asking Marquez to fight at 146 was Floyd's lowest point in his career, so far. He even changed it from 144 to 146 to make things even worse. This was uncharted territory for Marquez ..... this was asking too much from Marquez.
As for Ortiz, I always said that Floyd picked another guy who had only one fight at WW and was still too naive and young to mix it up with Floyd .... Ortiz needed to fix a few things before fighting someone like Floyd ... it showed in the Maidana then Peterson then Berto fight. Ortiz was knocked down twice against Berto then people thought he was ready for Floyd? lol!

Floyds resume was overrated to start with because most of the name fighters were at the end of their careers. But Ortiz was never a prime champion so being exposed last weekend does not effect Mayweather's resume much. It is what it is.

Whoa kid, don't get ahead of yourself. We still have part IV left. If Manny ices JMM this go round Floyd's resume is only going to take a bigger hit.
You always have to look at a fight for what it was at the time... Floyd did not know the future results of Ortiz's fights and neither did any of us... All we know is when Floyd signed the contract, Ortiz was a hungry, strong, hard hitting title holder who came off a big win over Berto... Nothing more, nothing less........
with Ortiz's recent loss, I believe Floyd's resume will never recover unless he defeats, Sergio, Manny and Ward followed by Dawson

Who the hell ever said he fights the best? Everyone knows he cherry picks opponents. Only his fangirls say that because they sweat his every move and want to slap dicks with him.
Who should he have fought last September?

Figured someone was going to make a thread about this. Maybe if Floyd would have struggled with Ortiz. But Mayweather was winning quite easily before the controversial stoppage.
