This thread is not aimed at the quitting or injury, just his defense. He needs to improve it badly. He gets hit alot. He drops his hands when he's coming in or backing off or throwing back. Everytime Lopez threw he landed at least one power punch in every exchange. I've also notices Ortiz' head movement has declined. He's not moving side to side, just coming straight in. He doesn't use angles and doesn't anticipate his opponents punches. The only sort of defense I've seen from him is clinching but its just not enough. The injury could have been avoided if he had some good defense. He used to have it back in the day but I think they've focused too much on offense. What do you think?
He needs to start bobbing and weaving side to side like iron mike tyson and throw some explosive straight rights to the body and a left hook to the head as a finish.
You he fights as a south paw right?
He kept retreating in a straight line, and Lopez continuously caught him right at the end of shots when he did this. When Ortiz had his head down, Lopez would blast him with uppercuts. Ortiz presented a stationary target and thought that his power would be able to finish Lopez, but he was dead wrong. Some of his best work in the fight was when he utilized the jab, and it helped him anticipate some of Lopez's offense. When he stopped throwing it, Lopez would throw a combo and land the majority of the punches, over and over again. Ortiz would absorb a combination and then try to answer back, but then he would get clinched. Or, he would try to counter during Lopez's combos, which would leave him open to get hit again. He was getting hit way too frequently, there were periods of time in the fight where Lopez couldn't miss a shot, Ortiz was right there in punching range to get punched lol
