Im not gonna lie, I used to like him. When he quit vs Maidana I decided to give him a pass and still watch him while rooting for him. After that, he had a war with Peterson and Berto and I was like "oh damn." But then came the whole Mayweather thing and I was like fk this dude for real. Then last night, he fouls Lopez with a blatant shot to the back of the head again and again. It's like this guy goes into a camp working on ways to foul. And then he quits AGAIN. Now before you go on saying he didn't quit, think again. He did quit. He was the one who told the ref his jaw was broken and the ref asked him if he was stopping the fight and he said yea cause my jaw is broken. It wasn't his corner as I said in a previous thread, his corner was attending him and didn't say a word while he talked to the ref.
So why give this guy a PPV shot? Sure he makes for some exciting fights but look at all the dumb sh1t he does with it. Why would you like this guy? Second time he quits now and Im sure there's more to come. All the crap he went thru in his childhood sure as hell doesn't show in the ring when it's time to grab your cojones and give it your all like Lopez did.
Ortiz is a roller-coaster ride, you never truly know what the hell you're going to get with him. This adds to the excitement and drama.
Question: how many PPV fights has Ortiz had? Mayweather is the only one I can think of.
Yea only the Mayweather PPV but he was being lined up for another one (vs Canelo). I think GBP was/is aware of his mental weakness and was trying to feed him to Canelo. IMO it was a 50/50 fight since they both lack D so it would've made for a fun scrap nonetheless. But GBP knows about Ortiz mental weakness and they were probably banking on Canelo frustrating him and taking him out. If Canelo hit Ortiz how Lopez (who is not even a 147lber, you could see some fat around his waste over his trunks) was hitting him, Ortiz would've been out of that ring on a stretcher.
it gets old after a while. and its definitely old now. hes becoming a bad investment. golden boy goes and announces a fight with their number one attraction featuring the kid and what does he do? he brings back all the same questions that ppl have been asking about him over the past 3 years. to most, theres no longer a need to ask and u cant blame them. hes not gonna come back from this. hes essentially reached his peak as a top fighter. he may beat lopez, heck he should beat lopez in their rematch, he may even beat some really good fighters in the future, but save a few diehard fans, no1 will ever take him seriously. everyone will always be waiting for the next moment when hes likely to flip.
^^^^Damn good post, dawg. Real talk!
He shouldn't get credit for Peterson, if anything it showed Maidana was no fluke. He came in 9lbs heavier, dropped him twice, and proceeded to lose 5 of the last 6 rounds, looking clueless along the way.
quick question, any of you guys here ever fought with a broken jaw? ... sorry but truth is half you keyboard boxing nerds probably never been in a real fight in your entire lives and yet you criticize a guy who stops a fight after having his jaw broken and could end up getting wrose if he keeps getting hurt....
the fact is because its victor ortiz and he has a history, this has all been blown out of proportion... had it been another fighter it wouldn't even be a big deal
I have worked a keyboard with a broken jaw:boxing:
You right Dempsey, Ortiz has become such a big liability, but GB underestimated Lopez and they paid for it. He was able to stifle Ortiz's offense and exploit his leaky defense. Lopez took the fight out of his hands, and Ortiz simply couldn't do anything about it. Ortiz fought the type of fight that he's used to, but Lopez came well-prepared and was very determined. Ortiz showed utilized his jab really well, but his lack of defense is still messing him up. Ortiz still has room for improvement, but his will might not be strong enough to reach his potential.
Ortiz shouldn't have been fighting Canelo anyway. Lopez ****ed up the plan, and I'm not mad about it lol. Lopez did us (and whoever winds up fighting Canelo) a favor.

I'll admit that I started to root for Ortiz after his war with berto, he really earned my respect that night. But then with Ortiz vs Mayweather, it was a situation where I felt resent towards both guys even before they fought, 24/7 completely to blame for it.
On one hand you had Mayweather dissing his own father in such a way that I was actually angry afterwards, and it's rare that I get angry off something on TV... on the other hand you had Ortiz just going on and on about his childhood, and his very strange disposition made to where I couldn't rally behind him at all. So all in all, 24/7 Mayweather-Ortiz made it impossible to get behind either guy.
Then the fiasco happened, where Ortiz headbutts May and then tries to make out with him leading to a KO, and I was to never even consider rooting for Ortiz ever again. he's a douchebag, but more importantly I think he literally has mental problems, so perhaps his behavior is passable.
