Ive been in alot of street fights but never in the boxing ring so Im the last guy to question someone's heart. I also take up for atheletes all the time so dont think Im some trash talking hater. Still, I think Ortiz quit. Even moreso, I think he's just mentally unstable.
I actually thought right off the bat in the 1st or 2nd round he looked like he was launching his head into Lopez on the ropes just like he did Floyd. Did anyone else notice that? Then he punches Lopez in back of the head. I also thought he threw a few of them througout the bout even after getting warned.
Now, lets get to the final question on him quitting or not. Its obviously a winnable fight at the end of the 9th. You only have 3 rounds left and a major pay day looming. Chances are you are going to get the decision in a close fight. All you have to do is go out, box, run, & jab for 3 rounds.
My thing is this. He's not a ***** for quitting. He's a ***** for the way he quit. He wanted out. If anything, I think any fighter wouldve went out in the 10th to see if he could take it or not. You try to go out. Then it ifs too bad, you can quit then. Worst of all his corner was holding him back. They were trying to stop him.
Im not even sure if his corner was telling him not to quit as much as they were just telling him to "hold on, lets talk about this". Instead, he seemed like a very scared kid in a panic. Like people trying to hold him back and he's trying to break free and scream out "help"! "You have to stop the fight"! It turned me off so much to see that.
If its me, I go out for the 10th. I see if I can stick & move. If he hits me with a few shots that I cant take, then I can quit. Shoot, half of the round might go by without Lopez landing a meaningful shot and then you might start changing your mind like "I only got 2.5 rounds left". Ortiz was also fighting his best when he was boxing and not getting involved in the brawls.
I think his corner was shocked by him saying he wanted to stop and they wanted to talk for a second. You could even wait until the round starts and have the doctor check it out. You dont just scream out to the ref like you wanna quit. It was so disturbing, espically when you have turned your career around and had a major payday next.
Bottom line is he wanted out and he didnt wanna go through the fire he had to go through to win that fight. His head got so ****y after the Berto fight and he didnt think Lopez was on his level. By the time the fight ended he was in shock of how much he was getting lit up and just wanted out.
All Im asking is for dude to try. Just go out in the 10th and see what happens. People act like its either or. Like he quits when he did or he has to fight the full 3 rounds. NO. You try and see how it goes. Thats why I say he quit. He didnt try and most of all he paniced & screamed out.
It was almost like he was a mental patient who his corner was trying to lock down in a straight jacket and he was going crazy trying to break free and yelling out "help, theyre trying to kill me"! Ill never back him again and he will regret that decision
Even a slightly fractured jaw is a big problem in the ring, I didn't see the fight so I'll keep my comment on a broken jaw and if I'm in the fighters corner the fight gets haulted immediately!!! Anyone whos had a fractured jaw will tell you what its about and unless your making a "movie" you don't fight on. Its a great way to ruin a fighters career! Ray.
you tube Mallinagi vs Cotto or Abraham vs Miranda
telling you man, Vicky is a straight up hoe!
Was anyone else waiting for the "i dont deserve to get hit like that" comment during the post fight interview? :lol1:
Probably why Garcia rushed him outta the ring
I agree. Garcia was actually great last night. Tried to keep Ortiz in knowing Ortiz was a head on the cards with only a few rounds to go in which Ortiz could have cruise and also for preventing Ortiz to further tarnish his rep by not allowing to talk.

Ortiz is a quiter because the better man didn't beat him. Ortiz is always looking for a way out of the kitchen when it gets to hot.
When Ortiz was over powering Lopez with big shots and Lopez was lifting his gloves for more, Lopez took Ortiz's heart by showing him he wasn't going anywhere. If you replay it, you clearly see Lopez intimidating Ortiz by urging him to fight after Ortiz was landing on him hard. You could see in Ortiz body language that he wanted out cause he couldn't stop Lopez's hunger. Ortiz had already quit before his jaw was injured.
Lopez was beautiful last night.
He quit great, He isn't too dumb to realise that he cannot fight with a broken jaw, he took control and use his common sense by quitting to fight another day, Am sure he works everything out in his mind before quitting, He would have probably got beaten up pretty bad and then his jaw would have been even worse, So am glad to see a boxer who isn't afraid to quit, A boxer who isn't too scared to be called out for quitting with a broke jaw, A boxer who isn't too pre-occupied with the stupid, dumb and childish "Warrior" tag that idiots love to throw around.
How about the "quitter" tag?
1) You haven't stepped in the boxing ring.
2) You haven't fought with a broken jaw.
You being involved in street fights is irrelevant, the mentality is completely different. In a street fight it could very well be fight or be killed, in which case there's nothing to be gained through refusing to fight when the damage is too much.
I think people overlook how dangerous of a sport boxing is, one clean punch could destroy someone's career or life for that matter. It actually takes a lot of concentrations for fighters to position themselves in away that reduces the amount of punches they receive or how well they land, it also takes a lot of concentration to react to punches in a way that reduces the impact. When you're in a lot of pain your concentration diminishes meaning that the flush shots received would more than likely increase.
It is all well and good saying ''If it was me I'd enter try things out in the 10th round'' but when you have an angry bull going for your head communicating with the ref or your corner that you can do no more could be a little bit difficult.

He quit but with pretty good reason. Had he gone on, we would've been praising him for his heart because it's understandable to quit in that situation.
The "payday looming" thing makes no sense because that went out the window as soon as his jaw broke. I don't know how long it takes to heal but I'm sure it's more than a month. With an 8 week training camp that puts the 9/15 date out of reach.
Also, what do you guys have to say about his trainers? Are they qualified? He wasnt even trying to hear them out. What if Garcia wanted to just tell him to go out and test it. Just go out & stick & move. Dont exchange. Just stay outside & pot shot. Just see what happens.
Again, Im not telling anyone to man up and fight 12 dudes with your jaw broke and go 15 rounds. I just said to go out and try. Then you will know if you can handle it or not. This wasnt the 1st round. He only had 3 to go. Maybe he couldve made it without alot of heat and maybe he couldnt. Thats why you try & find out
.........and you know about trying? My comment about fans knocking a fighter for retiring is simple! Fighters don't degrade other fighters unless its a promo stick that their using or they they know each other personally and honestly don't like one another. Real fighters have respect for those men who enter the ring and give an effort to succeeed. This young man was fighting with his injury and he decided to retire.
Until you've experienced fractures in your jaw or a split in the chin when the nerves are reacting in shock waves you don't know what your talking about. Your comments are based on a fairy tale idea of boxing. If this kid is a top twenty fighter in his division how did he get there? Flappin his gib on a forum?
:haha: Ray.
so you are one of those guys who think you have to be a pro to critique everything? You have to had played the sport to be able to speak on something? You have to had advance to the highest level possible to have an opinion? Thats B.S.
What you said about real fighters is not true. IDK what sports you watch but they will go in on another player quick if they think he's not representing the sport the right way. You said he was fighting with an injury and decided to retire but others would say that he didnt try to fight with it. That as soon as he got hurt, he wanted out
You sound dumb. Now I know why so many people on here dont respect you. So just because Ortiz takes hard shots when he's brawling, means he's going to take a bunch of hard shots while he's running? If thats the case then why do guys get on the move & run when they are hurt?
Mosley tried to brawl with Pac, got dropped and got on his bike to where he barely got touched again the rest of the fight. You think Pac wouldnt have lit him up if they werent brawling? Thats my point. Ofcourse Ortiz got hit alot the first 9 rounds. He was fighting very aggressive. That doesnt mean he takes the same punishment the last 3 rounds when he's moving & running. Any noob in boxing knows that.
Also, Ortiz may be the dumbest guy in boxing. You say IDK that he wasnt thinking that but at the same time you act like you know for sure he was thinking about his long term health. Youre a clown. Ortiz wasnt thinking about that **** and anyone with a brain knows that.
Im glad you think every decision a fighter makes is ok. I guess the next time a guy has any cut, injury or anything and quits, that you will defend him since he felt thats whats best for him. Super Save A Ho
U think I care what another m.f thinks about me on b.scene? Lol I gotta life and it doesn't revolve around a website. I don't care what decision a fighter makes in his career because it doesn't effect me. If they want to quit from a cut, punches, broken hands, broken jaws hey that's on them. I'm not going to sit on my computer and talk about who can & can't fight with a broken jaw...this is a contact sport and depending on the fighter 9/10 shots thrown are head/ jaw shots....with that being said, if u feel somehow Ortiz was gonna become a slick boxer in the remaining fights, jabbing, clinching, shoulder rolling punches then hey that's your fantasy....

How u know what Ortiz was thinking? You reading minds now? So let me get this straight, not only do you know how much pain a fighter can fight through, u know their thoughts as well? Damn u good!
"Nobody is telling him to finish the fight"? End thread then..
Lol go out with a broken jaw & if you take some more hard shots then quit??? Did u not watch the fight? They were trading hard shots the whole dang fight. What you think, the last few rounds is gonna be different? Bro you're ignorant & clearly don't know any better. At the end of the day a guy with a broken decided to do what's best for him...if he needed your expertise on what a fighter should do in a broken jaw situation im sure he'd a called you....but he didn't

You telling me to end thread if Im not telling him to finish the fight? That shows you how clueless you are. I dont care what sport it is. Everyone gets criticized if they dont try. You can watch Football or whatever. People always talk about its not the fact that he didnt play, its the fact that he didnt try. If you try then you may be shocked on what happens
Im glad you think every decision a fighter makes is ok. I guess the next time a guy has any cut, injury or anything and quits, that you will defend him since he felt thats whats best for him. Super Save A Ho
Opinions based on........................NOTHING!!! Fans calling out a fighter who decides he can't continue based on a broken jaw. To continue with a broken jaw or most likely a fractured jaw is just plain stupid, not brave. The damage that could be done to the fracture(s) can be devasting and no one knows including the fighter the extent of the injury but he decided to retire. No one here knows what it is to "get in a ring" let alone fight with injuries! Ali fought with fractures on his jaw against Norton and paid the price with an extended lay off. To continue on with injury is up to the fighter because he's the only one who can "feel" the damage and its his decision, not some fan!!!
The man wasn't a coward when he stepped into the ring but after suffering what could be a career ending injury he's a coward in the minds of a few fans who have ZERO idea what a fighter actually goes through. Theres alot of things wrong with this sport and I add the fact that people degrade and disgrace people on a forum when in a face to face situation would NOT say a thing!!! Forum Fighters, where everyone has an opinion but NO real experiences! No one is screamin around here about Tyson biting Evander to duck out but when a fighter suffers a real injury he's coward to retire because he has the brains to realize more damage that could be perminent could be inflicted. Make believe fighters who think the punches are make believe too hahahaha a big bunch of morons I've never encountered.
Fairy Tale Boxing, where everyone can handle the punches!!!:stooges:. Ray
why do people keep talking about people on here not being fighters? 1st off Im not paid millions to box. 2nd, everyone on here has been in some kinda fight in there life so its not like no one knows what they are talking about. 3rd, if you search this forum enough you would know that there are infact guys on this site who really do box, train, and have fights.
Again, what about other fighters who have called him out? What is your excuse to them? I disagree with 2 of your main points. 1 is the permanent damage thing. No one on here is going to convince me that Ortiz was thinking about his long term health when he quit. He wasnt thinking about Ali, Margarito, or sitting out 2 years. He just felt it was broke and wanted out, immediatly. It had nothing to do with his future.
The 2nd thing I disagree with you on is that people arent upset that he quit and didnt finish the fight. They are upset that he didnt even try. Not only did he not try but he shoved his corner out the way and screamed for the ref to stop it. He was in a panic. He couldve came out to fight in the 10th, boxed, moved, stick, jab, and ran.
Chances are he couldve survived and maybe not taken any punishment but if he did get hit hard a few times, then he can quit and no one rips him. The point is he didnt even try. He was doing good when he boxed anyways. Its not like Lopez is this stalker killer that will walk him down like Margarito & crush him. He shouldve tried to just move and stay outside. Then if he gets hit and wants to stop, everyone understands but he didnt even try
Clown, I knew what the hell you were talking about and Im saying thats a stupid example. Its not the same thing at all. You also acting like I said it was smart for Margarito to continue which I didnt so fall back.
Also, I havent been in a boxing match but other fighters have also called him out so now what is your lame ass excuse?
Again, there is no way in hell Ortiz was thinking about his future when he quit. He wasnt thinking about Margarito or how it could effect the rest of his career. If you think that then you are delusional.
Nobody was telling him to finish the fight. The point is to try and then see what happens. If you take some more hard shots then you can quit but there was also a very high possibility that he could box, stick, move, run, and not take any real punishment.
BTW, trust me when I tell you that there is nothing you could say that would go over my head

Bro u sound ignorant! I used margarito as an example of stupidity at its finest which apparently went over your head. Comparing injury to injury... Margarito who suffered a broken eye socket & according to you had NO chance of winning the fight but he kept going. Giving the fans what they wanted instead of doing what was best for him & his health. What good did it do him in the long run? A few plastic surgeries to repair his eye? Can't open it as wide as he use to? What did it do?
It got his career cut short period.....that same injury came back to haunt him, for what? A few bucks & some pride? That's dumb!
Ortiz was winning the fight! Lopez face was smashed in! Ortiz didn't want out, he got injured fool! How you gonna complain about another man not wanting to continue fightng with a broken jaw? 2 more rounds can seem like a lifetime, Until you've laced up & fought with a broken jaw you can't speak on what someone should do. And ranking Lopez 12 rnks below him means nothing in boxing, anything can happen on any giving Saturday..
Ortiz can still come back & rematch berto, Lopez, Floyd in the future...
Clown, I knew what the hell you were talking about and Im saying thats a stupid example. Its not the same thing at all. You also acting like I said it was smart for Margarito to continue which I didnt so fall back.
