This was a great night for boxing!
After the Pacquiao vs. Bradley brouhaha, were it left a lot of fans stunned, disgusted and cursing the sweet science to high heavens, boxing gave us two great fights tonight! Humberto Soto and Lucas Matthysse gave us an indication of things to come. Soto showed us why he's a beast in the lower weights (135 and below), unfortunately, he was too brave for his own good. Matthysse took all of Soto's best combinations and still kept coming in, and wore down Soto with his wicked body shots and got credited as the first man to put Soto down. Sky's the limit for Matthysse right now, and he'll be the tough nut to crack at 140 as long as he keeps it out of the judges' hands, while I'm sure Soto will bounce back strong if he ever decides to go back to 135.
Josesito Lopez is not your typical hard puncher, nor he is a great counter puncher, but he proved to everybody that a "blue collar" boxer can still succeed in the hurt business. He doesn't know the meaning of the word "quit", and kept on plugging in. He gave, he took, and he took more but never wavered, he will be my model if somebody asked me what a warrior is. As for Ortiz, well I hope boxing isn't like baseball, he already struck out 3 times in my book, broken jaw and all...
