i have only heard one person name a fighter they felt was complete named sugar ray leonard by teddy atlas bt in sure srl is complete plzz name some fighters you feel are complete fighters
Amir Khan has potential... If someone taught him how to fight on the inside, he'd be complete
Gamboa, he can box, brawl, inside, outside all that jazz
Ward... Minus some punching power he does whatever he wants in the ring
If Bradley had the physical talent to compete at the elite level, I'd mention him
Canelo has a lot of potential, he just needs to sharpen what he already has and we'll see
JCC Jr same situation as Canelo
amir khan is nowhere near being a complete fighter. in fact, hes one of the most flawed fighters outta the bunch mentioned in this thread.

Lol. Exception to the rule. Not the norm for him. And I'm a Money fan.
That doesn't make him not complete. Power is not something that you do, it's a physical ability.
Power comes from more than just strength. Its an ability to generate momentum and leverage and torque. Its utilizing the entire body to deliver all of its potential energy and force into the delivering fist.
Trust me, punching with power is mostly a gift but it can also be an acquired skill. If it was just a physical ability Bradley would be like Tyson in there.
lol @ the ppl hating on JCC Jr
-great chin
-no stamina issues
-can box inside
-effective body puncher and head puncher
-good defense
-good power
Do you know what a complete fighter is.
Good defense? Lee landed more punches on him than he landed. And Lee has very poor defense.
James Toney..
Can beat you up on the inside; Solid power at close range
Was difficult to hit with his slippling and rolling away from punches - One of those fighters that can box in a phone booth
Had hand speed and could put together combinations
Good chin
At times would use his jab and box from the outside like he did against Barkley
Only weakness was he fought down to his competition and would get lazy at times.

Khan, another guy with poor defense.
JCC Jr, poor defense slow handspeed, poor footwork.
Bradley has no power.
Gamboa has improved immensely and boxes more now, he's getting hit less and less as his opposition rises. It's crazy to go from getting KD'ed a lot against poor opposition, to getting better and less reckless against better fighters. I would say Gamboa is definitely up there with the complete fighters, though his defense has a lot to do with reflexes, not exactly basic fundamentals of blocking, holding/smothering.
Mayweather- doesn't finish

Ward- power issues
That doesn't make him not complete. Power is not something that you do, it's a physical ability.
mayweather
ward
vlad klitchsko
thats all i got
EDIT: how could i forget marquez
Marquez lacks defense.
A lot of punches landed on him against Diaz, Katsidis, Casamayor even Pacquiao. And especially Mayweather.
I think you need good defense to be considered as a complete fighter. To his credit, defense is all he's lacking. He does every thing else almost A-A+.
excepy rigondeaux.
that remains to be seen. he hasnt fought nobody who could force him to fight at a high pace or on the inside for prolonged periods of time.
as of now rigo is a master at his style of fighting and keeping the fight as such. being well rounded is being able to take the fight anywhere and still win, we havent seen that from him yet.
im totally missing your definition of complete. mine being fighters that do everything very well. u can find a flaw in just about any fighter.

Just because Marquez does something better then almost everyone else, doesn't mean he doesn't do the other bits quite well. You even admit as much.
Yes Marquez is a well rounded fighter. This we know. He does not do quite well at all bits though. Footwork for instance? Lol. No, he is well rounded. Really though I was taking issue with a certain poster's wording because he took issue with mine before. Carry on
I am aware complete means more along the lines of "well rounded" when referring to a boxer, but I was just playing with Dempsey. Thank you for your input though.
Edit : as an aside Marquez fights his best when countering. I am well aware he can go to war and bring the fight to certain opponents.. Diaz being one... But I think we can all agree he performs best against top tier opponents in his counterpunching tactical mode.
Wlad has a weak chin for a HW.. No way around that. But his style does make up for that.

If I were to pick the top 5 complete active fighters I'd go with:
1. Andre Ward (who happens to be my favorite fighter)
2. Floyd Mayweather
3. Miguel Cotto
4. JMM
5. Tim Bradley / Nonito Donaire
thats not what complete means.
ward has enough power to get your attention, enough that you cant walk through his punches. he doesnt need more than that to be a complete fighter.
mayweather knows how to finish, thats enough. the fact that he often chooses not to take risks to finish doesnt make him incomplete.
wlads chin is good enough, again you dont have to have bailey like power or a margarito like chin to be complete. we have seen wlad take flush punches, he has an above average chin which is good enough. he isnt complete as a fighter though, but its bcuz he cant fight on the inside not bcuz of his chin.
marquez doesnt have fits when he has to walk someone down at all. do you base that on the mayweather fight alone? counterpunching is the style he performs best with, he can fight in any style though. marquez is complete just like ward and mayweather.
hopkins in his prime was one of the most complete fighters i ever seen, age obviously caught up with him and erased some of those abilities so he isnt that complete today. i still think hes worth mentioning though.
lamont peterson was very complete for a young fighter. could fight at any range and tempo, box, brawl, lead, counter etc..

Mayweather- doesn't finish
Ward- power issues
Wlad have chin issues
Marquez is most effective counterpunching.. He has fits when he actually has to walk someone down.
Really this is a matter of opinion because a flaw could be found in even the very best.

ur still missing the point. under ur definition, there is no such thing as a complete fighter. and theres no need for a tantrum or to be butthurt because u didn't know what spoiling meant.
no, no. You said a complete fighter does "everything" well. Everything is an all encompassing term. It seems to me you don't have a clear idea what complete means, even to yourself. If someone weren't charitable towards you, they could easily nitpick your words all day instead of addressing what you are actually trying to ****in say.
Hey, that's how you and boy wonder (who consequently said he disowned Mayweather because he cherry picked Cotto...so laughable that a grown man thinks he can disown a boxer that doesn't even know him) wanted to do me, so that's how it feels when the shoe is on the other foot, dude.
Just like a Bradley fan to give a substandard performance ,comparably, and depend on a mere technicality for the W.
