I've never really seen anyone as explosive yet so difficult to hit cleanly as Duran? Do you agree? Why or why not? Who do you think was better in this respect?

I think his first fight with Leonard was equally as impressive as Chavez and Camacho at their best.
Perhaps, though I'd rather watch somebody like Qawi was also excellent at blending offense and defense.Did so alot more fluidly than Duran too,in my view.
I've never found Duran to be an exciting fighter to watch at his peak.
Definitely one of the most successful of all time at blending the two seamlessly into his style. It seems effortless when he transitions from slipping a punch to countering or attacking the body.
Duran defense while on the offense was a thing of beauty. Always in the right position to not to get hit. Also he rolled with the punches.
Early JCC was like that.
JCC was awesome no doubt but his plan was to smother you, pin you against the ropes and break you down little by little with a body-head attack. He couldnt lay you out with a single shot like Duran did against Lampkin, Wheatley, Huertas and Ortiz

chavez had fewer dimensions than duran, but he's certainly one of the craftier fighters to ever move forward chiefly.
i call it being responsible
they were responsible with their offense.
Duran's defense is SORELY underrated just because he didn't mind mixing it up but I have to give RJJ the greatest amalgamation of offense and defense. God gifted reflexes, speed of hand and foot, power in each hand AND high ring IQ. GOAT skills wise.
Greatest of all time in terms of athleticism maybe, but it seems like you have your mind made up. I won't argue with you about your opinion

In terms of offense+defense I'd say he was about as good as Chavez Sr,who is very underrated when it comes to defense.
You must not know much about Duran. Everything Chavez did Roberto Duran did better. There's a reason why Duran is rated higher on all time greats list than Chavez.
No age and location cuz he's too chickensh1t to post it. No avatar because he lacks imagination. Makes hundreds of retarded posts nuthugging active fighters.
Thank God I'm not a flaming retard like you!

To be fair, I have my favorite old time fighters I'm sure he does too, and I'd much rather discuss what's happening now or in the future rather than in the past unless I'm looking for others opinions and knowledge.
You can only discuss what has already happened too much on a logical level.
Here in Tacoma it drizzles all winter. It's sunny most of the in the summer though. Hell, it's sunny and 73 out right now.....

Down here it's sunny most the time, the snow isn't as bad as most think, except the mountain towns of course, but that's anywhere in the West.
It's been hot as f**k in Colorado this summer so far, today was the first cool day in weeks.

I heard it's rainy and cloudy all the time in Washington and Oregon, any truth to that???
Duran was a great all around fighter but I liked Jose Napoles better. Napoles was a natural lightweight who was so feared and avoided at lightweight that he was forced to move to welterweight to get the tittle. He was welterweight champion for almost 7 years. In my opinion, prime against prime he would have defeated Duran at 135 or 147. He hit a little harder with the left hook and just as hard with right. He was a little faster and a better boxer. He beat the great Emile Griffith easily when Griffith was only a little past prime to give an idea how good he was. The no mas thing was bad but Duran showed his great courage and fighting spirit in so many other wars that I don't think it should be held against him.
I believe I've also referred to as an ignorant moron on more than one occasion. It doesn't make any of your asinine posts any less forgettable.

Age 44. Location: Tacoma. Huge David Bowie pic and and an avatar of some hockey player who nobody cares about. Personally signs 15k+ posts in purple. Thank god I'm not you.
Back to the topic though. DeJesus would be in the same tier as Stevie Johnston if not for the Duran win. And yes that's enough to exclude Duran from the title of best combo of offense and defense ever.

i'll just assume you mean ray leonard, considering that robinson was at times very available to be hit. leonard is up there. with duran i'd say. still behind him, though.
tunney was not potent to anywhere near the degree that duran was. neither was whitaker or benitez for that matter, though all three were had good offense in their own right.
roy jones was not a killer like duran. he was too fast for guys to do anything in terms of hitting him or not getting hit.
duran broke guys down if he couldnt get them to go right away. at LW he was a force of nature. roy was more of a freak athlete than a natural born killer
and tyson, likewise, though an elusive fighter, never displayed craft on duran's level. down the stretch his technique and sharpness would be compromised.
ezzard charles is up there with duran
as is ray leonard. it's a very selective club. i'll see if any other names pop to mind
there is a lesser tier as well. carlos monzon was a terrific ring general and was rarely hit cleanly. he could also bang with the best of them and had a great jab to cut off the ring and set up his punches. still not on the level with LW duran. jersey joe walcott was cute for days and could crack, but he's not on the level with roberto duran
