Correct.
HBO has already reserved that date for Chavez vs Martinez.
I really wish GBP would have just done this a week after, instead of making boxing fans choose.
GB has done this a few times I think, last i remember they scheduled the mares-agbeko fight on the same day as cotto-margarito II, which was announced first (someone's bound to ask for a link: http://******.craveonline.com/blog/169288-arum-vows-retaliation-against-golden-boy-showtime-) But, this being Mexican Independence weekend, I can't really say Canelo shouldn't fight that day...it'd be nice if they moved it a week, just for the fans...but perhaps his pride won't allow it.

Canelo vs Ortiz is a more competetive fight but I will pay $55 to see Chavez Jr get KTFO by Martinez
I also think Top Rank is suppose to stage JCC- Sergio on HBO PPV that day
:Flush:

They're taking a PPV which has a good chance to bomb and giving it to a smaller network that struggles to sell PPVs? What's the logic here exactly?
well, like it's been pointed out more times than it needs repeating...the network doesn't matter, but I'm sure you've already gathered that's the general consensus here. But, worth noting: when Ken Hershman (formerly of Showtime Sports) took over Ross Greenburg's position at HBO Sports (coincidentally shortly after Pacquiao took his fight with Mosley to Showtime), Stephen Espinoza, who has close ties to Golden Boy promotions as their attorney was hired as the replacement at Showtime Sports. With Mr. Espinoza directing traffic at Showtime, one could only imagine it becomes easier for Oscar and Schaefer to conduct business with someone they've conducted business with before.

Well there's another big **** you from our beloved boxing promoters, looks like a Sergio-Chavez Jr PPV could be taking place on HBO at the exact same time.
canelo sells easy 500 k..u saying it will bomb is dumb and stupid..why are u complaining about chavez jr?,its not a sure thing yet on neither camp, ortiz and chavez could lose..Also showtime is much better network for boxing...

:Flush:Yup. Uncle Bob already has that day reserved for on HBO PPV for Top Rank, so that's why Showtime got this fight (It probably has been in the works the past few weeks, both of them appeared at the Showtime fights on June 3 and gave interviews).

Canelo-Kirkland would've been a great 24/7 or Fightcamp 360...everyone kinda knows about ortiz's story already.
Personally, I don't mind Showtime PPVs or Showtime broadcasts in general, the HBO crew is very tiresome.
There wouldnt be a 24/7 for that fight
And Victor "Im a Tree" ortiz's story is sooo played out

Anyone can buy but their advertising will be limited on the smaller channel. HBO offers more straight up exposure.
THey dont only advertise on HBO. If you've watched TV over the last few months, FLoyd-Cotto and Pac-Bradley advertisement has been all over cable including the NBA and NFL playoffs
Why does it matter which network does the PPV? It doesnt limit audience numbers like a regular network fight since HBO has way more viewer then Showtime, 29 to 21.3
Its Pay Per View, anyone can buy itagreed this is the type of fight thats sells itself whos carrying their network name on it is of little consequence, besides its a very wise decision for the fans anyhow, who the hell wants to hear the super biased hbo guys??? they are sooo biased they are either unwilling or incapable of even gving a blow by blow account of whats transpiring in a fight. The jmm pac fight 3 is a good example, listeneing to them guys youd think pac was actually winning, the hbo man-love is very tiring no more bang bang please.......
Canelo vs Ortiz ppv will not bomb @ all
What do you think it'll do?
I'm thinking anything over 250k is a big success.
