Despite all the tall claims by Mayweather that he is Floyd "Money" Mayweather and that he is not in this sport for titles, fame, or legacy but money, I feel he is MOST concerned about his legacy. Lets be honest if you have tens or hundreds of millions of dollars and your place in boxing history is cemented would a few more million dollars for facing a threat like Pacquaio make any difference? It would if Floyd was a fraction as materialistic as he claims to be, The fight would have happened already. I believe that Floyd Mayweather cares more about being remembered as a legend retiring without a defeat, He knows that people will in the future really challenge his claim to be a legend since he did not face Pacquaio to which Floyds response is normally "I dont need Pacquaio".
Despite all his claims, I think Floyd wants to go down in history along side the likes of Ali, Sugar, Foreman, Frazier and the real titans from the golden age of boxing. I really do not buy into the Floyd "Money" Mayweather at all.
Does anyone else agree with me that its no longer money, but ultimately legacy that Floyd wants?
He wont have no choice but to obsessively think for hrs, and hrs, and try to force himself to sleep it off, but man that wont work....after this first week, his fan male will be getting to him, and its gonna be half hate mail, partially fans who gave up on him because they felt he let them down, and he will be forced to read every single letter....Floyd is gonna be mentally tattered while he's in jail, and while doing so, he will have these fans manipulating him into feeling a certain way...
Nah. Floyd will be mainly thinking about Miss Jackson in his cell. He'll conjure up images of her screwing around and doing extra curricular activities. You know the feeling. It will drive any man crazy in that situation.
He'll think about the Pacman fight, of course, but that can be decided any time after leaving prison. I don't think he cares about being blamed for the fight not happening.
You can never have too much money, but Floyd has a LOT of money and could have retired after the Mosley fight if he wanted to.
Coming back to fight Ortiz and Cotto and beating both of them shows it's not just about money anymore. Ortiz was the best fighter from 140-147 not named Pacquiao when Floyd fought him. Khan was talking about needing one more year to fight Floyd, Bradley was having promotional issues. Ortiz was the best fighter Floyd could have fought and that's who he fought. Cotto was the "best" at 154 supposedly, but regardless he was rated #1 and that's who Floyd fought.
In the meantime, fighting the two best possible options he could have fought, those were also the most lucrative.
As long as your the most lucrative and realistic option for Floyd, he will fight you. Realistic meaning, you're not with Top Rank. Floyd's next fight will once again be against the most lucrative option who is not under Top Rank, that could possibly be Canelo Alvarez, and Amir Khan would definitely be in the picture if he can beat Danny Garcia. But i'm pretty sure GBP. Haymon, Ellerbe are all leaning towards Canelo in 2013 if he keeps his winning ways. I can see Floyd taking a "tune-up" in December, and then Canelo in May 4th 2013, one day before the popular May 5th.
I think money then ego. Same as pac. If they put legacy first, the fight would have been made ages ago. Listen to them talk, they always say that they dont need each other. Lolz.

He cares about both, but he's a brat too...Once pac said he would take less, Floyd thought he could talk him into taking peanuts, and when pac turned it down, it was like a stand down, where he refused to change his demands hoping pac would crack...Floyd has no idea how insulted pac was, but all this will change when he gets out...Floyd is spending 23 hrs in isolation..Man it is mentally TOUGH, he gonna be there for a full week, until friday, and this week will go by slow as HELL...He wont have no choice but to obsessively think for hrs, and hrs, and try to force himself to sleep it off, but man that wont work....after this first week, his fan male will be getting to him, and its gonna be half hate mail, partially fans who gave up on him because they felt he let them down, and he will be forced to read every single letter....Floyd is gonna be mentally tattered while he's in jail, and while doing so, he will have these fans manipulating him into feeling a certain way...Floyd's mind doesnt work like our minds...he is a child prodigy, and some child prodigies have a chemical off balance....like a kid with autism who happens to be a genuis....a person with Floyd's unique mind, under these unique circumstances, in that private cell for a week, reading fan mail for entertainment, all of this will have SOME Affect on the way he thinks...Im curious to see how he comes out...he might come out mentally destroyed...but if he is tough, he may come out mentally stronger, with a new outlook...I just hope he goes thru the mental beating, opposed to snapping and getting himself in trouble inside there cuz I wont be surprised if he made another mistake and was forced to do the whole 6 months
I believe strongly that he's fighting for his legacy and just for the sheer love of the sport and his fans. Let's not forget that the guy has been making millions per fight since the 90's and he made about 40-50 million just for the De La Hoya and Hatton fights alone. So i'm more than sure that he's not fighting because he needs money. Of course he wants to make a lot of money but I don't think that's the motivation behind him still being in the sport. If he wanted to, I think Floyd could have stopped fighting after the Ricky Hatton fight and never came back and still been extremely comfortable with his money. He became such an international superstar after that fight that he started making tons of money outside of boxing. He's very multi talented and there's plenty of other things he could do like acting, music, commentating, WWE and the list goes on and on. He's not like Manny "I let other people make my decisions for me" Pacquiao who can't make money doing anything else but boxing and will therefore struggle mightily when it's all over. Floyd could've been a lot of things other than a boxer.
Bottom line, Floyd sees himself as the best boxer ever and he wants others to see him in the same way or at least to appreciate him more, and gradually they are. I don't believe the retirement talk. I could easily see him competing for another 4 or 5 years fighting and remaining undefeated during that time because there's nobody around that is even close to him right now and I don't see any serious prospects on the comeup either. Plus when you can fight whoever you want and make $50 million plus every time I think your going to keep doing that until your body tells you it's not possible anymore. Floyd hasn't taken much punishment at all in his career and he relies more so on his mental qualities (like defence and the ability to adjust) than his physical ones so I don't think we are going to see him decline much at all and I see him still being very dominant in his late 30's and even his 40's should he decide to continue competing for that long.
Obviously, a fight with Manny Pacquiao will be about money and legacy. If Floyd was a different person, he would have taken this fight a long time ago. So...
:unitedsta
I think it's both.
He obviously cares a lot about the money he makes and wants to make as much as possible.
But at the same time he obviously cares about his legacy a lot also.
Anyone who dedicates 25 years of their life to something obviously cares about their legacy.
