is wards messing and spoiling style uninteresting and would a different more fan friendly style get him more fans??? i like watching defensive fighters and admire the skill it takes to fight that way but non-hardcore fans dont fing his or similar styles like hopkins exciting???? what do u think????:boxing:
He has an unappealing style but it shouldn't hurt him. For one, he's an Olympic gold medalist. The fans will forgive him for his boring style because of that. I look for him to become a bigger star once Mayweather and Pacquiao go away. Same thing go for Bradley if he doesn't get outclassed by Pac.
He counter punches brilliantly, can lead off just as well, his inside game is first class, he's got great timing, his defence is as good as his attack, he's got great speed....
Ward is a brilliant fighter and in my eye's he's a great fighter to watch as well. I like to see guy's with supreme levels of skill.
I hate his style. He does way to much wrestling and holding and hitting, which is illegal but that rule is not always inforced especially in Oakland. His style does hurt his popularity. I hope Dawson beats him.
Well, I guess to each his own. From what I've seen with my own eyes, he seems to have a ton of charisma. People in Northern California just seem to like him. He seems to have a very loyal following and draws great crowds in his hometown and decent crowds outside of it.
I seen him when he was apart of the Showtime team.
Seemed pretty dull to me.
Beckham lacks charisma for me and his popularity is high.
If he blows out froch and beats Kessler into a stoppage I think it would help his appeal a lot I mean hell he's already done it:) but there coming off of big wins so it looks better to the casual fan.
And if he blows a few mandatories out it might help him get some appeal.
Be nice if he could talk a little trash tho.
yeah agree, shame true skills aren't appreciated by casual fans and dont get the respect they deserve:boxing:

Very few people make it to "superstar" status. A lot of p4p #1's come around and they do not become the DLH's, Maweather's, Pacquiao's, Tyson's etc.
But he will have a long career of headlining shows on showtime, & HBO, and can draw a good crowd in his area. He will have a very economically successful career.
Ward just have to KEEP WINNING and fight the BEST FIGHTERS...can't worry about a few HATERS on a boxing Forum who find every reason to HATE WARD:nonono:
He is already Top 5 P4P...Mayweather and Pacquiao are the only two big Draws is boxing, it is funny how people are talking as if becoming a Draw in Boxing is possible for ALL FIGHTERS...I hate to burst peoples bubble but only a very select few will ever become a MEGASTAR IN BOXING and a HUGE DRAW...A VERY SELECT FEW
first thing is that it goes beyond just your Fighting Style, it is plenty of exciting fighters Past and Present who are not/did not become HUGE DRAWS
Every time I try, I can never rewatch an entire fight of his. I make it to the 3rd or 4th round and I just do something else. When I was watching Ward vs Froch live on TV, I was fairly entertained, but I think that had more to do over the excitement of finally having a winner for the super six. After rewatching it, I realized it was a pretty boring in reality.
He'll be a huge local draw, but I think that's as far as it goes.
Doesn't come across on TV.
If there was 30 min interview of Ward talking about boxing and his life, I would not watch it.
And I can't imagine anyone who is not a boxing fan wanting to watch it or being entertained by it.

For a guy presumed to be so boring, he sure does have a lot of followers on twitter - https://twitter.com/#!/andreward
More than Froch.
Just saying!
As an American he has a bigger target audience (US: 311m to UK: 62m)
I do hope he can get the exposure a fighter of his talent deserves.

i think the way he conducts interviews about fights make people dislike him but agree with what ur saying, he says sum funny stuff too, the "lucian bum ass bute, put 2 bums together and you get excitement " interview was funny when he was talking about bute and froch on youtube lol :boxing:
yes, i can't stand watching his fights. and he will never be a superstar even if he stays undefeated his whole career. his personality is boring and he is another religious nutjob, "son of god" rofl.
Every time he publicly speaks people go crazy for him. I remember he was introduced at the beginning of a Raiders-Patroits game a couple years back and the crowd was going crazy for him. I don't know what it is about him, but people seem to love him. That's charisma if I've ever seen it.

You kidding me, you think Ward has charisma?
His fighting styles is more exciting than when he opens his mouth.

Bro i think you have made threads in 3 days then I have in my boxingscene career
haven't long joined and had alot of thoughts to get out there, luv hearing others opinions ;)
is it more off putting than floyd mayweather's?
perhaps to a slight degree. floyd's a bit more aesthetically pleasing.
if he was a knockout puncher who laid guys senseless with a 20 minute highlight reel he might be more popular
or if he was brash and talked and promoted himself like mayweather. the styles are not the only thing that make for endearing fighters, and certainly not among the mainstream
how many great action fighters can you remember who never broke through
gazillions.
the stars have to align to create a boxer who can cross over. it's more about the people than the fighter. they decide what they want to see.
is it an exciting fighter? (pick one.)
a patriotic figure? (louis)
or an exciting character outside of the ring? (ali)
a controversial character? (tyson, ali)
somebody who people love to hate? (mayweather
and underdog? (pacquiao )
if he continues to dominate, he will get to p4p #1, which will make him a superstar IMO.
Not necessarily, Ward and Martinez are already top 5 pfp and neither really command a huge fanbase.
Mayweather had a boring style but he received mainstream success through fighting De La Hoya.
Ward could do with similar big-name North American opponents (Hopkins? Chavez Jr.? Bute?)
I think he's going to become a superstar in the near future. He's a clean cut, well spoken family man with an Olympic Gold Medal. Everytime he fights in Oakland he draws a great crowd despite his "boring" style. The guy just seems to have a ton of charisma and sometimes here in the US that's more important than fighting styles.
Just get him on HBO more often and he'll get more of a national following, IMO.

Ward is relatively boring, he a dirty fighter, he clinches a lot and spoils a lot too.
Lacks the KOs as well.
He seems happy to just fight at home.
If he would take on the big fights away from home it might build his profile a bit more.
Needs to cut out the dirty stuff, and at least try for the KO.
