It seems 99% of this forum think he's a hypejob....i dont think i've come across any big fans of his on this forum. It's pretty much unanimously agreed that he is a GoldenBoy hypejob.
I rate him very highly and think he is the real deal. Real deal being i think he is certainly one of the best young boxers in the world today and think he'll be right up those p4p rankings in years to come.
So let's see, are there any more who like me, think he's the real deal and not just a GBP hypejob?
By real deal i dont mean he could beat both Pacquiao and Mayweather put together on the same night....just saying i rate him very highly...wether he could beat Mayweather or not is a different story....
I think he's a very solid fighter. He may have a problem with a guy like Lara, but outside of that I think he has his way against anyone around 154. People constantly talk about him being too young, but he has a ton of pro experience. There is a whole lot of talk about the quality of opposition, but hell to me that's being a bit nitpicky. He improves every fight. Kirkland is made to order for him, and then I think maybe we see a Mayweather fight, a fight in which I think would be extremely competitive at that point.:boxing:
Canelo is definitely the "real deal" in the sense that he'll go places in the future. He's very young, and shows a lot of maturity and polish despite that. It's obvious that he's not ready for the top of the tops, though. Evidence: Mosley. Mosley grew even older and more ineffective for that fight and had no reflexes, speed, or even power. Still stood there all night in front of him.
Still, I see the makings of a pretty great fighter to be honest. He's been facing soft competition but I think he still shows a lot of promise in spite of that.
Baldomir came in over weight for his fight with Canelo and he had to pay a heavy fine to Canelo. I forget how much but it was a good amount of money. Canelo gave the money back to Baldomir. Not many fighters would do that.
Kid has a good heart

Vargas? I know you couldn't have forgotten Vargas.
I was just about to say he's about as good right now as Vargas was when he fought Quartey and headed into the Tito fight, which is a good thing...Fernando was very good, he never reached his potential but Canelo looks to have an opportunity to do even better than that.
I think he is the real deal, we're kind of just waiting for confirmation on whether that's true or not in a bigger type of fight.
I think he's the real deal but he gets so much exposure while fighting subpar opposition that he will receive a lot of hate from the hardcore fans while being overrated by the mainstream fans. It's best not to talk about him on a message board because he attracts too many haters and nuthuggers.
I first saw Canelo fight against Cotto's older brother and I have been a huge fan of his since then. Every time he fights I bet as much money on him as I can afford to lose. He is dead serious about becoming the best possible fighter he can be. He improves every fight. He is totally fearless and very calm and focussed in the ring. He already KOed Rhodes who Ring ranked #4 in the world at the time he fought him. He is trying to get fights with guys like Williams and Kirkland. Maybe Golden Boy is keeping him away from Lara for now, I don't know.Sure he could lose to some of the tough guys at 154 and I would back off on my hopes for him. For now I will continue to bet on him against any 154 lb. fighter in the world. The Mexican fans really know boxing and they love him. I am a white guy here in the mountains near Albuquerque, New Mexico.

I think he is the real deal as long as he stays focused and keeps improving. He catches flac for being a hype job but he was in line to fight Williams, now he wants to face Kirkland......I don't see him ducking anyone unlike some other Mexican stars out there.
ok but what are you basing that off of? the guy has SOME TALENT, but I haven't see anything from him to make say "WOW THAT GUY HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE GREAT SOME DAY"
I think Oscar is marketing/selling his LOOK more then he is his SKILLS IN THE RING because to be honest I have yet to see it in the RING...but he is improving though...but at the same time it is kinda hard to tell if he is really improving or not unless he gets in with TOP HUNGRY FIGHTERS (like Kirkland would be a start) then Austin Trout, then Cotto, guys like that...if he looks good against TOP FIGHTERS IN HIS DIVISION then yeah the hype will be a lot more believable
He's a solid fighter. Nothing special like Barrera, Morales showed at his age. Marquez also seemed like a well rounded fighter at that age. Spotlight is shining much brighter on him than on those other guys though, not just because of his looks and undefeated record but also because bigger fighters generally get paid more attention. Problem with this dude is that he's becoming popular very fast. He's already a superstar and getting 1 mil+ when he fights. All this before he's accomplished anything meaningful. Hopefully it won't get to his head
I think he can beat Pacquiao at this moment and is about one year from beating Mayweather, but who knows that HGH might keep Mayweather young.
Nice troll effort.

IMO he is the real deal. For only being 21 years old I see a lot of potential and room for growth. He is already a top 154 fighter. Just imagine him in a few years, say when he is 25. Kid is going to be a top 5 P4P in the next couple of years. He will destroy Kirkland and I can see him beating Vanes, the toughest challenge will be Lara. Cotto will give him a tough fight but Cotto is too old and will eventually fold under the younger and stronger Canelo..
He's 21 years old, it's simply too early to tell. Some guys that age, you just know he's going to be a star. Canelo isn't one of them. Not to say he won't have a good career, but it isn't obvious like a 21 year old Floyd was.
Canelo has to answer a lot of questions, mainly his stamina, before we can put him in the "real deal" category.
