So I watched the Mosley and Cotto fight, and Cotto was getting hit with some major bombs but kept coming forward. He also got a beating from Margarito with plaster in his gloves but kept coming until he couldn't take it anymore. I could go on and on but my point is Cotto has proven without a doubt he has a major chin because alot of those shots he was taking were clean shots.
So now we come to the Mayweather fight, which in my opinion he showcased better defense than he ever has in that fight and wasn't taking as many clean shots as he normally does, and Mayweather still was able to stager him with one punch and almost put him down for the count. Also in the Mosley fight it was times where he hit Mosley with enough force to physically push him back and make him get weary of throwing. Thinking on all this I came to the conclusion that Mayweather hits much harder than most people give him credit for. What do you guys think?
Cotto's chin is average, just like Floyd's power as a WW. Floyd had more power at 130. Floyd's power comes from the accuracy and speed. Like when he needles guys to the body with the left jab over and over for a few rds, then turns the punch over into a left hook upstairs. He has enough power to get everyone he's fought to notice it, but he doesn't commit to every shot like many fighters do. Best power punch has always been his left hook.
Mayweather has good power and it strongly relies on the way he times it, the way he throws it, and the way he leaps that straight hand..its just too sharp and clean. If mayweather increases his workrate he'll do great..
Floyd hit Cotto with a temple shot in the 4th that made Cotto buckle....it was during one of his 4 punch combos....think it was a left upercut, left hook, then a right hand to end it that hit his temply...cotto did a wobble...good recovery he came in shape
Not as much padding to protect cotto also his hands would been faster in 8oz gloves and I'm sure he woulda hit harder so yes. I bet he woulda been able to slip some of those right hands In with 8oz's rather then 10's
wtf, 2 ounces would've affected floyd's speed?...is he really that weak?...
coulda shoulda woulda.....floyd looked more beat up than cotto...you think 8 0z gloves would've benefited floyd?...lol, lay down the pipe.

he could have stopped cotto if he wanted.. could have stopped JMM in the 1st round, watch it again and know floyds skills

in a scale of 1-10 , with 10 being the hardest, id rate floyds power 6 and calderon 2..floyd is not featherfisted but he aint a power puncher by any means ......
I think Floyd has average power, and Cotto has an average chin. Mayweather is a good puncher though. He's quick, fast, and accurate. With those qualitties he's able to hurt most guys, specially late in fights when he has taken the air out of the other fighters wheels.
I also think some people maybe be confusing physical strenght with power. Mayweather looks stronger now at ww than before and that enables him to be more agressive effectively, but I think his punching power is pretty much the same.
I believe mayweathers power is underrated to an extent.
Whoever said cotto's defense against mayweather wasnt better than it's been is crazy, an the connect percentage numbers prove it. Mayweather, one of the most accurate punchers ever, had dismal numbers/percentage, way below what he is used to.
If they got back together, and cotto focused on taking away the sweeping right/left uppercut combo punches, where would that leave mayweather?
Mayweather throws his power punches with speed and proper technique so he has good power. The straight right he hit Ortiz with would KO lots of fighters in my opinion. I think his power is underrated. When he wants to he hits hard. He is not a big puncher but his power is above average.
Disagree. His power is not above average. That is an embellishment. Floyd's power, if you can call it that, is average at best. His talent is his quickness. Not alot of power needed if the subject doesn't see the punch.

Spot on. Mayweather is a freak of nature. He hits hard, he has insane reactions, doesn't get hit, he can easily outbox his opponent or he can go toe to toe and still win with style. Complete boxer.
Don't forget to add that he's good to his parents, his "wife" and children, and is a financial genius on the side. And a great philantropist and reformer.
Isn't he dedicating the next 3 months to visiting prisoners behind bars??
Floyd actually is a natural puncher.
But, in order to be a puncher, you have to commit to your shots. Floyd doesn't commit to his shots, because he doesn't take unnecessary risks. If he can win without exposing his chin, he's going to do that. Why risk his spotless record just for the intangible benefit of getting a knockout?
He also has hand problems, which should be another obvious reason why he's not knocking guys out with single shots. Make no mistake, Floyd has punching power. Just look at his earlier fights.
Another thing I'd like to note, Cotto can take shots very well around the temple area, Mosley repeatedly hit him with overhand rights in their fight and Cotto hardly budged and we all know Mosley has freakish type power.
Mosley had great KO power as a lightweight, he used to overwhelm his opponents with blizzards of punches. But, when he became a welter, including from beginning with 3 KO's against poor opposition before Oscar, he's only had another 6 KO's out of over 20 fights.
So as a welterweight and up, his KO record is very average.
Floyd has average power to keep average opponent honest. Against someone above average who can take his shot like nothing and can unleash explosive power on his ass . He will avoid him at all cost.
uve been smoking something really strong lately
thats what i think
ya, agreed. what i think is that the TS is a massive mayweather dickrider that doesnt know anything.
unbiased observers in this fight, for the majority, had mayweather by scores of 115-113 or 116-112. cotto is not a sore loser and after the fight he walked off as if he was disgusted with the scores, his trainer told cotto in the 11th round that the fight was even (i would agree, had mayweather up one round at the time).
heres a tip: get mayweather's dick out of your mouth. he is an amazing defensive fighter, but this was farrrrrr from his best defensive showing. he was being hit more in this fight than almost all of his fights.
also, he doesn't have good power at all. his power i would say is average at 147 and below average at 154.
I think he hits harder then some people want to give him credit for, just because he chooses to box instead of just going out looking for a Quick KO doesn't not mean he doesn't have Power...he just don't DEPEND ON IT!
