He moved up in weight o challenge the Ring champ(unlike Ward)and won...after that Fight Hopkins went on to regain the Ring title ,lineal title and WBC title so he was far from shot.............Joe pushed Hopkins like no 1 ever had and made him not wanna fight.....
Who won the group with England in it at the last World Cup? Oh yeah, the US. Shut up dude, just because no one gives crappy David Haye respect doesn't mean Americans have no respect for European fighters. We love Ricky Hatton, at least mos of us do, and we recognize Lewis as ATG at heavyweight.
Yup. I love the mouthbreathing UK and euro trolls trying to talk about nationalism and race when it comes to Calzaghe.
yeah okay, that's why Ricky Hatton gets the respect Calzaghe doesnt, and everyone over here respects Lewis even if they arent fans of either.
it have a lot to do with this man
Come on.. lol.. America sucks at soccer
even though it's the world's most popular sport, America is against it and it's a fringe sport in the US.
American use to care about the HW
America now suck at the HW
Hence it's now a fringe division ...

No idea what to say about the soccer / athlete discussion other than it's silly.
"Soccer" is the most popular sport in the world and in most areas of the world it's the one thing most boys want to become the greatest at. That brings the most athletes and talent and makes it the most competitive sport on earth.
Athleticism is not only about power, speed and explosiveness. It's also about endurance, dexterity, hand eye coordination etc etc.
If you say one sport is more demanding of a great athlete it's because you pick and choose what's important in my opinion.
1. the Hopkins win is underrated.
2. Calzaghes career is overrated.
Hopkins was still game. He went on to do very good things.
I don't think the fight was questionable at all. The only thing that keeps this silly argument going is incompetence by Adelaide Byrd and Hopkins (as usual) refusal to admit he lost. He never felt he lost a damn fight in his career. Even against Dawson where he clearly lost he had something to say about it.
For me it's a way to weed out silly posters. I can understand the nuthuggers will sink with the ship but if you're not heavily biased, have rewatched the fight and still say it's a robbery i'd not know what to tell you.
With that said. Kessler is surely the best win of Calzaghes career, and that is very telling. He had the tools to possibly be much greater, but he never proved it. To me he's not an ATG and i already am ready to consider Ward above him when ranking the SMW. And i really don't like Ward one bit.
because joe fought them when they were in their 40s not to mention he got his slappy arse knocked down in both fights.
The fact that Calzaghe spent his entire career hiding out at 168 while bhop & roy were one division below & above him only for him to come out of hiding after they were both in their 40s not to mention calzaghe retiring after his longtime division finally became loaded with great competition...
actually makes calzaghe one of the biggest cherry pickers in the history of the sport.
This also.
Simple.
Hatton has more respect because even though he got humilated, he faced the p4p no.1 in Mayweather and Pac.
Calzaghe on the other hand never had a single superfight in his entire career.
The likes of RJJ, Hopkins, Toney etc. were fighting big money fights and making history. Calzaghe, on the other hand was facing journeyman mandatories.
RJJ and Hopkins were at the combined age of 84 or something, and couldn't get a big fight. (Especially RJJ who should have retired 5 years before).
If you're going to give credit to Joe.
Then give credit to Trevor Berbick for beating Ali.
And give credit for "5k Battery" for beating Pac.
Exactly correct.

Close fight, shouldn't have been close is Calzaghe was really THAT good, that's why (But obviously this is more of a testament to Hopkins regardless of his antics that night). Who the hell cares if he's white or black? Stupid , irrelevant. Next please.
Didn't he retire at 37? And, began with a really log amateur run. 37 seems quite reasonable to me.
calzaghe retiring when 168 became loaded with super six talent is equivalent to floyd retiring after beating ricky hatton when the welterweight division was the deepest and hottest division in boxing.
Calslappy saw the writing on the wall with the great challenges looming at 168 & cashed out.
the best athletes here do not play soccer
please dont kid yourself.
you dont need to be a great athlete to play soccer. Lionel Messi is 5'9" and 140 lbs and is the best in the world.

is that literally all you do with your time?
no, because it's largely a middle class game and that's generally not where the best athletes come from
it's also looked upon as a game for children and girls
i'm not saying that's right or wrong, but that's how it's viewed.
the best athletes in the states generally play two sports
basketball and football
you have some great all around athletes in the other two major sports (baseball and hockey,) but those are generally more skill based games
if you can run fast, and jump high and have great height and length you can be good at basketball
same with football. if you are big, strong, and fast, you can excel
Basically. It's funny to hear others misconceptions of American sports. Soccer is a F level sport in America at best.

The states were quite late catching up with soccer. In the rest of the world, soccer isnt seen as a game for girls and children.
Soccer is at least a global sport were the continents can compete. unlike basketball, and american football.

This is correct. I played soccer a LOT on the playground as a kid. When I got into high school, none of the guys played anymore. Probably because you couldn't see it on TV, so it had no heroism or bravado. I am still fond of it but no one I know is interested in watching it, save for some of the people from other countries that I have worked with.
What that has to do with Calzaghe, I don't know. ..
