I hate that group singing that the English do. Americans know better than to do something that stupid. The English try but they can never keep a song going for more than 30 seconds. If Americans ever start that singing crap it it will seriously hurt my enjoyment of boxing. If I want to hear songs I will turn on the radio. One nation of singing boxing fans is one to many. Froch's girl friend has to be the loudest, most annoying fan in history. The English boxing fans are the worst sports of them all. When Hagler went to England and KOed Minter, he needed a police escort to get out of the building alive. Being more like English fans is the worst thing American fans could do.
We have love for our hometown teams but it is not the same. The geography of the USA alones it quite different. Also when I ask fans of crappy EPL teams why they continue to support those teams even though they don't have the money to compete it is usually a very personal answer like "My great great grandfather Seamus O'callaghan played for this team, and his son played for them, etc, etc..."
"How do you deal with the fact knowing that your best player is gonna get bought by some maassive team". "Oh that is just a fact of life that someone will eventually want to be rewarded for working his way up through youth programs, etc..."
Meanwhile we go crazy if a player turns coat on our teams for something as platonic as "money". Americans really value loyalty from their players.
It is nice to be able to wear your teams jersey in someone else's building and the worst you can expect is friendly ribbing or maybe a harmless drunk idiot at worst, which is a far cry from what goes on in Europe, with special designated areas for oppposing fans.
It would be awesome if Americans had that passionate flame and elaborate chants and dances for whoever they root for but at the end of the day it is not a big deal.
Did you forget about the 2 Dodgers fans that almost killed one Giants fan outside of Dodger Stadium last year? It is just one incident though. Many beatings probably happen over in Europe more often. England is overrated.
Well, Miami to LA is a very long travel. Plus those are two cities that aren't hardcore into sports to begin with. If you took cities that actually cared a lot about their teams and the travel was short, the would happen. For example when the Pistons were playing the Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals of 2004 a lot of us traveled to Indiana(I'd say around 5,000 people it was pretty crazy), but that's only a 6 hour drive and Detroit is one of the best sports town in the country. You're right about the amount of travel to those other events though.
Ye that was what I was getting at if u play some1 close 2 ur city it's easy/cheap 2 get there (most matches 4 me r less than 3 hours drive) but ur country is massive so going to away matches is expensive and would b a long weekend not a day like over in the uk. Some of the fans over here are idiots tho, racist abuse/all the organised fighting that occurs. The sad part is they are only a small % of the fans but they are the only 1s u ever read about.

i agree. theres a huge difference between a day-trip and taking a vacation
We also find ourselves so superior that we elect to not boo the national anthems of other countries. We don't use racist chants, nor religious chants, and brawls between rival fans are rare enough that they're generally newsworthy when they do occur.
One of the first things Thierry Henry said about playing football in New York? It is nice not to have fans constantly shouting racial slurs at you.
I sure do wish we knew how to cheer like you guys do. We just can't be as classy of fans I guess.
:lol1:
:owned:
2 b honest I think British fans are just crazy people who wanna go get drunk and have a good time n a sporting event gives them an excuse. 40,000 going las Vegas 4 the hatton/mayweather fight, 35,000/40,000 going to Australia for he ashes, 30,000 going to south Africa for the lions tour n the list goes on. As for the premier league, British teams have a major following home/away because we are a small island so the fans are trying to out do the other teams fans. I can't really see 5,000 heat fans going to LA 2 watch a heat lakers league game.

Detroit does burn their city down every time they win a championship, but we can't use them as an example. It would be like using Bosnia as the example for Europe.
Detroit burns the city down every night before Halloween, where they burn down a lot of abandon buildings.
They fans arent generally as bizarre or nuts in America, but the people here are much more violent, a reason average Amreican cities have higher crime rates than the worst European cities for the most part, with the exception of Russia, which is statistically just as violent as America.
My point exactly in the other thread.
We are such a diverse nation, that one way of cheering isn't how USA fans cheer.
We don't have as big of a history as other countries, because we're such a new country, with so many different kind of citizens, that there's not a way Americans cheer. S**t, just as recently as 1848, California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, 60% of Colorado, and small parts of Oklahoma-Kansas-Wyoming, were part of Mexico. And as recently as the 1600's, Native Americans like the Utes, Apaches, Pueblo's, Hopi, Navajo, Zuni, and Comanche ruled the Southwest states. And the Shoshone and Arapaho also lived in Southwest states. We are unlike any other nation.
There is no nation like America, probably why most people around the world envy this country and want to come here. After all these idiotic threads like this, I actually feel like a Patriot today, and that never happens.
Yea America doesn't get crazy like Euros. I lived in Spain for a few years and went to many Barca games and it's a whole different level. Same goes for Latino-America and most other places. But that is also mainly because the rules are more strict in America. You don't see the riots at stadiums like you do in other places. And how Real Madrid parties in the fountain in the city after a win, stuff like that never happens in the USA lol.Detroit does burn their city down every time they win a championship, but we can't use them as an example. We don't even do that. Our nation is very different than most nations. We have a lot more mainstream sports here, a lot more than most nations(think how popular MLB, NFL, NHL, and NBA are. That's 4 majors sports that around 30 different cities around the country have to support).
We are also a very diverse nation. When you look at a team from England for example and the support they get, chances are the fans of that team have ties to that team for very long. Our nation is young and a lot of us are only second or third generation citizens so we come from all different parts of the world. We're the melting pot of the world.
Hell, people still have trouble accepting that Mexican-Americans are Americans. It's just like what African Americans went through decades ago. Our nation is unlike no other nation in the world.
True True:no:
