Too many individuals are stating that floyd brings the PPV #s on him alone. There is no other reason why his fights sell the way they do because everyone wants to see Floyd.
Now, I have watched floyds fights because the undercard was VERY interesting as well.
Mayweather vs Cotto
It had Canelo vs Mosley.
Both are not even close to A-sides at this point but carry BIG names. Especially a very big prospect for MEXICAN fans in Canelo. Timing: CINCO DE MAYO
Mayweather vs Ortiz.
Erik Morales + Canelo
Both again are BIG NAMES from Mexico + timing of Mexican Holiday.
Mayweather vs JMM
katsidis vs escobedo
Chris John vs Rocky Juarez
Exciting fighters but not big names. I can give most credit to Mayweather in this PPV revenue. But still centered timing around Mexican Independence Day.
Is there no african american/africa holiday he can center his fights on?
Now the question, we all know Pac's undercards are almost HIDEOUS to say the least. It rides Pac's name to make the PPV turn out. Now put BIG NAMES + timing of a Mexican Holiday.
PAC VS JMM IV
Nonito Donaire vs Abner Mares
Mercito Gesta vs Brandon Rios
PINOY POWER VS MEXICAN WARRIORS
How do you think this would fair? Let's get real, Mayweather is not generating the numbers on his own and simply rides out the Mexican boxing fans. That's why he does his racist remarks because he can't claim his own people.
Thoughts?
I have no problem with Mayweather bringing in those names and it is for the better! Much props for him doing what is business smarts! Give the fans something worth watching and putting their money in for. But in the same regards you can't compare the two side by side when we all know it's Pac's name vs Mayweather+co.
So I guess Pac having Chavez Jr on his Cotto undercard didn't help......
Or having Arce on Cinco De Mayo weekend of the Mosley fight didn't help.....
Floyd sells more PPV's per fight than Pac. Who cares???
Thread starter just got busted....

Canelo has huge ratings on Mexico's biggest TV station. He has never headlined a ppv sold in the US. For comparison, The Klit brothers get massive TV ratings in Germany but don't sell squat here.
Mexican Independence weekend has always been big for boxing. The MGM and HBO PPV will give floyd that date because he has proven to sell huge numbers.
The notion that you or anyone would pay $69.95 for Canelo Mosley at this stage of their careers is utter BS. Thats like saying you pay for your appetizers and not your dinner.
Cinco De Mayo is NOT Mexican independence day. In fact, it's not even that important in Mexico, only in Puebla where the famous battle took place. It was Mexican Americans who really made it into a popular holiday because of how such a weak and outnumbered force of Mexico was able to overcome the odds and defeat a much bigger and well equipped force in the French led by Napoleon Bonaparte.
Mexican independence is September 16th.
But yeah, I agree with some of the points about Floyd doing good numbers because of the Mexican support, However... I would be willing to bet that if Floyd and Manny had a PPV held on the very same night, with an equally lame undercard, Floyd would still outsell Manny, but thats just my opinion.

why do he have to fight on a african american/africa holiday?
WE agree but you can't compare Mexican free TV to ppv in America. Because one is a draw in Mexico doesn't mean they are a ppv star here. See the Klits.
You do understand that their are a lot of Mexicans in the US right? I bet Canelo is a bigger star in the US then you think.
I find your signature quote funny Dunn. Weren't you the same guy that told me yesterday that it's ok to criticize Pac outside the ring but you can still celebrate him as a boxer (and I agreed)? LOL.
Just a reality check. I found it interesting that Manny is called a bigot. This boxer who releases ustream rants is called the same thing.
No. Both Canelo and Bradley were given the prime undercard spot against older name veterans so they could geta recognizable name on their resume before they fought the guy at the top of the card.
Floyd and GBP are using the same method TR used for years. There is no difference except clowns need to find new and inventive ways to criticize floyd.

yes for added attraction...canelo-mosley is a different animal compared to bradley-casa though.

Same reason Bob spent almost the same amount on Bradley/Casamayor.

No. I watch on an internet stream for $8 a month.
Canelo is still a big draw.
And id personally rather pay to watch Pac.

Canelo is becoming a big star for 2 reasons.
Huge fanbase.
Appearance on floyd ppv's.
Noose you paying $69.95 for MosleyCanelo or $49.95 for Canelo/Hatton? Really?

why would gpb spend almost $2 million for the canelo-mosley fight as undercard for floyd-cotto if they thought it doesn't contribute to its ppv attraction? schaeffer is not stupid as you stans are.

Canelo is becoming a big star and SSM is still a big name regardless of how old and crap he is these days.
So i agree with most of ur post, but the OP has a good point.

The problem with your breakdown is you assert things that respectfully, from a boxing perspective, make no sense.
Canelo Mosley. Nothing Mosley has shown in the last 2 yrs made this a good fight. This was a setup for Canelo to murk him. You essentially are saying you paid $69.95 for a fight with a 10-1 betting line.
Secondly, you ignore the fact that floyd gets the best dates because he's proven to sell more. Its like the NBA puttting Kobe and Lebron on Christmas.
Finally, you ignore the fact the 1st undercard on a ppv is usually about setting up the next opponent or building a name. manny's undercards are weak because Bob is putting on blow outs to make the winner look like a stronger opponent. So you get Bradley Casamayor. Or you get Nonito/Mares.
Floyd is using his direct undercard to build a fight with Canelo. But to assume people are buying the card for Canelo, especially since his fights have been "tune ups" is a stretch, especially since he has never headlined a PPV.

dude come on now your stretching it for mayweather, he is a business genius end of story. Canelo sells tons of fights with an enormous mexican following i also agree that the canelo Mosley fight was going to be better than the mayweather fight i dont care what the betting odds say. Mahweather fighting on mexican holidays is a given.... Hes an American fighter not a mexican fighter so by your vision he should be fighting on independence day not cinco de mayo. By the way hes NEVER going to fight canelo
