According to the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association, Peterson has tested positive from a carbon isotope ratio test for synthetic testosterone, putting the May 19 title fight in jeopardy.
Peterson took a random drug test in mid-March that came back positive. The "B" sample was tested at the end of April, also yielding a positive result.
Peterson could not be reached for comment Monday. Barry Hunter, who trains Peterson, did not return calls seeking comment.
However, Peterson's camp released the following statement to BoxingScene.com: "We have tremendous respect for VADA and its mission. Lamont, Barry and the entire team emphatically support random drug testing in the most comprehensive manner possible. We are working expeditiously with a team of pathologists and other medical specialists to confirm the origin of the test result and in full compliance with the rules of the Nevada Athletic Commission.
"Lamont has never had a positive test either before or after this isolated occurrence, and we plan to submit the medical findings by close of business Tuesday reflecting the actual facts in support of Lamont's good faith intentions and the requirements of the commission."
The Nevada Athletic Commission was made aware Monday of the failed test, which was administered by VADA, headed by Dr. Margaret Goodman and Dr. Flip Homansky. Both Peterson (30-1-1, 15 knockouts) and Khan (26-2, 18 KOs) agreed to the tests, as well as any random testing administered by the NAC.
VADA informed Peterson on April 13 of the first positive test, and VADA was told Thursday by the UCLA lab conducting the tests that the "B" sample was also positive.
When reached Monday night, Goodman said: "I cannot comment on the results of tests on any of our fighters."
Golden Boy Promotions, which is putting on the rematch of Peterson's Dec. 10 win in Washington, D.C., wasn't made aware of the situation until Monday.
NAC executive director Keith Kizer said he was monitoring the situation and hoped to have more information regarding the fight's future today, but wanted to withhold comment until then..
Why the fuck did they wait 2 weeks before the fight to tell everyone?
It sounds like they already knew in early April.
Wow great job reading the paragraph there
