when I watched the fight live I gave Cotto 3 rounds....after watching it again I gave him 4, but you have to be real generous to give him more than 5 rounds because Floyd clearly won the last two rounds, their were maybe two rounds that were close but Floyd landed more punches....you gotta be real biased to think Cotto won the fight...Mayweather landed the better punches, threw more punches and landed more, and got hit 1/5 of the time...the recipe for victory...it was a very good fight to watch but it was a clear win....its sad how some people are hoping this guy loses, better stop criticizing and enjoy him while he is here

I won't say who, but these folks your talking about have a way of scoring fights when they watch it in slow motion......
People need to realize you can't give "even" rounds. Unless they both threw and landed the same exact number of punches with the same speed and power, it's impossible. 8-4 Mayweather UD. End of story.
Cotto landed some nice body shots in the 3rd and I scored the 9th a draw, so I never said Cotto won it. Whatever way you look at it, it was a tight round.
No need to get so emotional, big man....It should be posted a couple of pages back.
just show the card, dude.

Maybe you would think differently if you actually knew how to score a fight.
How many even rounds did you have? 116-115 is ridiculous. Id like to see that breakdown.

Floyd clearly not only won but damn near dominated these 3 rounds, especially 3 and 9 which were 2 of Floyd's best rounds. I know it's opinion but I just watched the fight trying to be as unbiased as I could and just can't agree with this homie.
Are you serious? Floyd dominated round 3? Cotto clearly won that round. Go back and watch that round and tell me Floyd DOMINATED it. You can say he won the round but not dominated it. Cotto: 2,3,5,6,7,8

dude, in the first 10 seconds cotto lands 2 jabs, and what about the bodyshots that soon follow? floyd fans don't seem to count bodyshots from his opponents, yes he rolls alot of bodyshots, but he took alot from cotto too
cotto landed a 3 punch counter-combo at about 2:13 of rd 3, and that's all im gonna watch of this, i dont want to rewatch this fight again, try and be a little more unbiased
smh @ 3 jabs is all he landed
You're entitled to your opinion, but I think that the scorecards were a horrible misrepresentation of what happened in the ring. Maybe you'd think differently if you didn't listen to HBO or Boxnation blow smoke up Floyd's ass for 12 rounds.

Round 3: Floyd was winning it in the first minute by not doing a whole lot, landing but not having any impact on Cotto. Cotto started doing some good work to the body in the second minute and started landing his jab in the second half of the round. Floyd was boxing him but most of what he threw(particularly in the 2nd half of the round) landed on Cotto's gloves. It was a close round but I thought Cotto did the better work and to say Mayweather dominated this round is ridiculous. I can see why someone could score it even, but I wouldn't give it to Floyd.
I want you to rewatch that round and relly tell me if Cotto landed ANY PUNCHES. He lands 3 jabs that entire round. I JUST WATCHED this fight he landed only 3 punchs. That was one of Floyds most dominant rounds, especially defensively.
Round 9: Floyd shaded the first minute by landing a couple of clean punches but Cotto was still being aggressive, not throwing as much as he had previously but pushing him back and trying to land combinations. Cotto landed a nice jab about half way through the round and then got him up against the ropes and landed a hook, and Floyd retaliated with left uppercut to the body. Floyd momentarily had Cotto on the ropes until Miguel jabbed his way out. At times they clinched and Floyd perhaps landed more shots on these occasions, but his punches weren't very loud for the most part. Cotto finished the round by dodging 3 consecutive Mayweather shots with his hands down. I couldn't separate them. Not a dominant round for either fighter.
This is another clear round because you could tell Cotto blew his entire wad in the 8th round. Cotto was FEROCIOUS, determined and aggressive in the 8th round. In the 9th he was the exact opposite and barely through any punches. Definitely not enough to even think about winnin the round
Floyd definitely outlanded Cotto, but I found that a lot of his punches were fast flurries(often when in a clinch) that didn't really effect Cotto too much. Bare in mind also that I gave the 7th to Mayweather, and there were quite a few people who scored that for Cotto, so it's not a case of me being biased - I just felt Cotto edged round 3 and did enough to earn a share of the spoils in 9 & 10.
If you look at compubox stats, you'd expect Mayweather to win comfortably(though you could say the same for Castillo in their first fight), but I can't see it that way looking at the fight. Cotto made it uncomfortable for him, and as you can see, I had him a round up going into the 11th.

I gave Cotto three rounds. I thought he fought competitively and made a great account of himself but he clearly lost.
...the reality is that this was a competitive fight, but not a close one.
Two of the most accurate statements I've seen written about this fight.
Green K.
Floyd strafed Cotto with right hands all night, outlanded him on the ropes, and hurt him.
Im just thankful that you are not a judge. 117-114, 116-115? hahaha what the **** were you watching dude?

1) A lot of the fight took place on the ropes.
2) Cotto's jab was quite effective in the middle of the ring.
3) Mayweather won the fight, but Cotto should've been given quite a lot more than he was on the scorecards.
That is all.

Cotto looked like he had it his way from the telecast, but yeah Floyd was either rolling them punches or Cotto did not connect properly (half his fist tapped Floyd in some shots, that would have affected the judge's impressions)
I'm not saying Mayweather didn't win the fight, I'm just saying it was a lot closer than people thought. I watched it on Boxnation, and as of the end of the second round, the commentators had concluded that Cotto didn't really stand a chance. They proceeded to spend the next 10 rounds talking about how amazing Mayweather was, sometimes talking about how great he was at the same time as Cotto was landing on Mayweather, neglecting to mention that he'd just been hit. I scored it 117-114 for Floyd when I watched it live, then I watched it today with the volume down and had it 116-115 Mayweather. The better man won on the night, but it was a close fight.
It really wasn't. Floyd landed the harder blows and the cleaner punches, displayed excellent defense, controlled the ring and the exchanges and landed at a higher percentage.
With the exception of the straight left hand, Cotto didn't find success with any other punches. Just because he made a better account of himself that people thought he would, the reality is that this was a competitive fight, but not a close one.
Meh, you've a really bad scoring system and what you define as clear effective shots, you'll not find a video of Cotto landing clean hard shots in the centre of the ring, you'll see him throw 10 and land 2 jabs against the ropes though, and if that does it for you, that's fine..

I think a few too many people gave Cotto rounds that he made a good account of himself, but didn't actually win. You can't score a round for Cotto because he did better than you thought he was going to, he has to actually win the round. He rarely did that.

Sure, but when you have other Analysts backing it up, and alot of other boxing hardcores agreeing with it, usually it's right. If you start watching the fight as a Floyd hater, or a pacquiao fan you'll see differently, when I first watched the Pacquiao vs Marquez 3 fight, I had it 116-112 for Marquez, I re-watched it a week later, and had it 115-113 for Pacquiao the emotion of the fight makes your preception change, go watch the fight again, mayweather landed the harder punches, most of cottos punches were a few jabs and a few shots against the ropes.
