He looked the same he pretty much always has. It is obvious however, how much Floyd's haters are waiting for him to slip.
Floyd looked fine, he could move when he wanted to, and is still lighting quick and with excellent reflexes. His sitting on the ropes was clearly intentional, he would back right up to them, he could have adjusted to movement around the ring, but it's Mayweather, if anyone can succeed against the ropes, it's him.
Floyd got hit a lot more in this fight, he looked good and earned the W but Cotto made him fight.
People expected Floyd to dominate like Mosley and some people even said it would be comparable to Gatti, its really criminal how little credit Cotto was given going into the fight.
Floyd looked the same in this as his last 3 fight, but Cotto is just the best fighter Floyd has fought in years
Floyd's nose had been bleeding since early, it just wasn't gushing til later. His eyes were glazed from then in as well.
Anyway there's been some slippage, as we've all been saying for a bit. His expression was weird though. He seemed not not have as much pop in his hands for some reason. I'm willing to bet he might be reconsidering the ammount of times he'll fight after he sees tape and has time to think about it.
I think he hurt his hand. He wasn't putting anything on his punches until he felt the need to impress the judges in close rounds. But, even so, he wasn't nearly as sharp as the Mosley fight. He fought similar to the Ortiz fight, I'd say.
Early on he looked really sharp, tremendous upper body movement. I thought he actually looked sharper than he did against Ortiz, except Cotto is skillful himself and doesn't eat shots the way Ortiz does.
In the middle rounds i thought a combination of Cotto's intelligent pressure and Mayweathers willingness to stay in the pocket and try and land shots (he really seemed determined to stop Cotto) meant Cotto made a real impact.
So yeah Floyd looked pretty good, maybe just a bit too eager to land lots of shots on Cotto and break him down (Manny's gotten into his head :lol1: )
It's just that the level of opposition was much higher
Yeah, I remember during the first round thinking that everything is still there with mayweather, easily landing his jab and his reflexes were all spot on and I knew after the first round mayweather had this fight in the bag.
Cottos stamina did seem to be better than it usually is. Mayweather made it a more difficult fight for himself than it had to be by fighting cotto's fight. I wish they would have both stepped on the HBO scales on fight night, it would have been interesting to see.
I think fighting that type of fight with cotto, the weight is what gave him a hard time. It makes it clear that if he wants to go to 160 like he talked about he cant be fighting that type of fight and needs to use movement. Also he didnt seem to even bother with trying to gain weight for the fight, it probably would have been helpful for him to weigh 155-158 for fight night.
Neither of the above, at 35 he obviously has slipped a small bit, but he still looked good last night and is still a class fighter. The fact that Cotto presented more of a challenge to him than any fighter since his comeback in 09 has something to do with why he was give a fairly tough fight to.
I thought he looked better than he did against Ortiz, skills and reflex are still there. Of course, he's still physically lost a little but considering he's 35 and is very inactive, it's pretty striking how physically gifted he still is.
He had some weirdly poor rounds though, and looked surprisingly fatigued at times.
Probably down to his busted nose it makes it difficult to breath.
He looked same as always difference is this version of Cotto was on his A game and Mayweather was indeed letting the fight go to the ropes at times to make it more of a fight I believe. Not to discredit Cotto though because he does cut off the ring very well. It's inevitable to get hit more when you throw more.
I can't choose any of your options because none express where I feel he was in this fight. Floyd dominated Marquez & Mosley. The Ortiz fight is simply 1 big question mark & Cotto's performance vs Floyd was actually the highlight of that fight. Because Most people expected Floyd to dominate Cotto, but he didn't. The fight was a brilliant hard fought entertaining fight in which Floyd won.
I thoguht skills and speed wise he was the same as the Mosley and Ortiz fights, only Cotto has a far better D than those two.
What'd you think???

well like I mentioned in another thread he out threw Cotto a part of me thinks he was purposely trying to be active and put on a show
I mean straight up skills and speed, reflexes wise.
I thought he was the same as the Mosley/Ortiz fights, which isn't far from the Marquez fight. He just didn't fight Maruez toe-to-toe, he boxed him kept him in the middle of the ring all day, he's taken way more risks with Shane, Ortiz, and Cotto.
When he boxes and doesn't fight toe-to-toe as much, he's running and is boring. When he fights toe-to-toe, fights off the ropes, his legs are gone and he's slowing. It's funny as hell.
