1.4 or 1.5 sounds about right. i dont think i will do any more than that.
it has been well promoted. floyd is a brilliant marketer, and GBP sank some cash into this one to give him a platform
it's so easy to stream these things. fans are also getting fed up with the manny and floyd not fighting. so are the casual / mainstream fans (the ones who drive these ppv buys up.)
Why didn't the dip drastically when he fought an unknown Victor Ortiz? I mean how much actually changed prior to the Ortiz fight and after.... if anything Floyd is more popular than ever before.
The Ortiz fight was driven by growing anticipation between Floyd's long layoff and the expectation that it would be a precursor to the Pacquiao fight. Boxing fans and pundits alike agreed that Floyd may be rusty after over a year of layoff. It became an exhibition to see if Floyd had slowed down or if he had grown vulnerable to a Pacquiao execution.
PPV numbers always seem to go up when Floyd comes back from long layoffs. This fight is completely different. Not only did Floyd's last fight essentially prove nothing, it also ended in disappointing fashion. Boxing casuals hear that Cotto is the opponent and remember that Cotto was already dispatched by Pacquiao. This makes them reluctant to see one of Pacquiao's defeated opponents when they really want to see Mayweather fight Pacquiao instead.
All of this factors into to my prior assessment and leads me to believe this fight will not go over 1.3 million buys. I'm being quite generous with that number too, but since I'm too lazy to use any statistical tools for inference that's the number that I will stand by.
and I'll give the victor of this bet 10 billion points. You in punchingbag?
Fictional points don't interest me, but I stand by my statement nonetheless.
Yet nearly every Mayweather/Pac ppv has sold over 1.2 million buys. All of sudden Mayweather the number 1 ppv attraction and Cotto the number 3 attraction with a huge fan base isn't going to reach 1.3 million. Come on dude, the hate is making you not think straight.
Sorry.
Mayweather is not an attraction anymore than a freakshow circus is.
Consumers have seen the song and dance before. Since the Ortiz fight and the subsequent fallout in the most recent Pacquiao negotiations, people are tuning Mayweather out.
His PPV numbers will dip as most casual fans are not interested in seeing him fight anyone other than Pacquiao. That is the straight truth. Even some of my hardcore friends are going to either skip this fight or stream it as Cotto is being portrayed a massive underdog and it's simply not compelling enough to drop $60 on it.
What annoys me is that you think there is hate involved. If anything I believe that May-Cotto will outsell Pac-Bradley by a marginal number, but outsell it nonetheless. You are perhaps so blinded by your own prejudice that you are inventing mine.
1.5 million buys is a lot in any era. Not many PPVs have ever reached that mark. I do think that it will reach that number though or slightly more. It's a big fight. The biggest since Mayweather/DLH.
Mayweather/DLH wouldn't have sold near as much in today's era.
The availability and viability of live streams has exponentially increased since 2007.
I'll bet you your whole bank that it does over 1.25 million buys. You Pac huggers are very funny.
1.3 tops. Won't even get close to 1.4 if it even gets to 1.3 in the first place.
The fact you use childish insults and want to wager imaginary points makes you lose credibility.
I'll entertain your fiction however. Everything I have in my account against everything you have in your account that the figure is 1.3 or lower. Anything higher and victory is yours.
Take it or leave it. I don't care.
The only thing left that I can say is that you are out of touch with reality if you think the widespread availability of streams won't seriously damper the PPV sales of this weekends fight.
Not even factoring in consumer experience based on Mayweather's prior fight.
Most casual buyers realized what a huge waste of money that was.
The era of boxing fights hitting 1.5 mil+ PPV buys is over.
With HD streams and international streams available the only fight with a realistic chance of selling over 1.5 mil is Pac-Mayweather.
The fight this weekend does 1.2-1.3 tops.
no way this does 1.5 million buys
I hang out with alot of boxing fans and not one of them has mentioned this fight and the fight is less than a week away
Yeah everyone is talking about this, it's a huge event. Even friends that I didn't even know watch boxing are talking about it.
I was just going to say I was at the computer lab at my school and 2 girls were talking about how one of their friends was having a fight party for the Mayweather fight (When girls are talking about a fight you know it is BIG) and than I went to class and 2 of my buddies said they were going to a bar to watch Cotto Saturday (I thought it was funny how they said the Cotto fight) and I was just thinking it is only Tuesday and there is already talk about parties from girls and 2 of my buddies who are not Boxing fans who are going to watch it at the bar.
1.5 on the dot
Would have done 1.7 if Cotto talked some mad **** back at Mayweather
That would have been something lol I would not be surprised if it does 1.6 or even 1.7 million I havent heard this much talk about a fight in a long time.
