That's a tough one but I'd say Floyd. Tyson's style changed and he was getting hit a little more than usual. Floyd on the other hand has gotten better with his style and shows no decline.
Whoever put Floyd/Cotto is obviously new to boxing. It would be big (no doubt) but Tyson/Douglas blows into oblivion.
Tyson was an indestructible force of nature which pulverized anything in its path within 2-3 rounds. Knowledgeable fans, or people who had been around the sport for years, had estimated that, sure, Tyson would lose eventually, but it wouldn't be until YEARS down the road and if he did, that it would be against an actually a great fighter.
He takes on Buster Douglas who didn't have ANY attribute over Tyson given his track record. He had folded before, he didn't have the best chin, nor the best boxing or brawling skills, he wasn't a champion, etc. In he comes as fodder for Tyson as another title defense and he not only beats Tyson, he knocks him out.
It was the equivalent of the village idiot slaying the dragon and saving everyone. Nobody expected it. NO-BODY.
Floyd is a clear favorite to win the fight, but it's not like Cotto winning is COMPLETELY out of the question. He's an underdog, but he's a solid one.
That Douglas over Tyson KO will remain as one of the biggest upsets in ALL of SPORTS...period.
Sure it would be huge but no where near as shocking as Tyson getting KO'd.
First of all boxing is not as big as it was in the late 80's-early 90's and Tyson was a bigger star than Floyd will ever be. Imagine if they had the internet and 24/7 for Tyson. It would be insane.
Also Tyson seemed invincible to almost mythic proportions, the thought of him getting stopped was inconceivable.
We have seen Floyd get rocked early by Judah, Hatton, and SSM and if he didn't hold on to shane he would have been knocked down.
Tyson loss by far.
Both Mayweather and Cotto are top fighters in their generation.
Who the hell knew Buster Douglas before he KO'd Tyson let alone being a 46/1 underdog?
No comparison whatsoever.
You wanted to talk about him being rocked so I showed you Tyson getting rocked, which was a lot worse. Boom!! And I don't see much decline in him. What I do see is less offense but MORE defense. It's not decline it's switching what you were known for when first coming up.
Next...
Heavyweight boxing is a total different ballgame, considering that one solid shot from a 200+ pound boxer can turn your lights out regardless of your chin.
I think odds on Cotto by knock out in round 1 are higher than 42-1.
That would have to be like 100-1, or NL because nobody would put any money on that proposition.
100-1 sounds right. And I didn't say TKO so that makes it harder.

I gotta go with Floyd loss.
If it the option was Floyd getting koed by Cotto in any round then Id pick Douglas. Reason I picked the Cotto loss is because Cotto hasnt koed anybody in the first round since forever and Floyd is known as the best defensive boxer in this sport currently.
Douglas was a 42-1 underdog in that fight. That's as big as an upset can get. Floyd KO'd in the 1st though? He has barely been hit clean let alone KO'd. That would shock me.
Yep,,, floyd has not been hit in the first round meaning if he gets hit, he could go down.

Cotto is way better than Douglas and Tyson was way more of a favorite than floyd is...
but at heavyweight its different, one punch can end the fight at any time if you are slipping, a KO upset is more likely at heavyweight. Ask Lewis and Wlad.
Not even close......Douglas over Tyson.
Douglas sucked, was never really good or anything. That was a huge upset, the biggest of all-time in my eyes. Cotto is past his prime-still good, but at least Cotto is still a good fighter, has a shot to be in the HOF one day possibly.
While I understand people saying Cotto over Floyd simply because of Floyd's D and how great he is, NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND THOUGHT TYSON WOULD LOSE TO BUSTER F**KING DOUGLAS, NO ONE, NOT EVEN THE CRAZIEST PEOPLE.
The odds would be a lot higher for a 1st round KO by Cotto. Especially Floyd being known for defense.
tyson loss to a bum.if floyd gets ko it would be to a good fighter.
This is decent Floyd related thread, for a change.
Man although I was too young to remember Tyson Douglas I appreciate how huge that was, many credible boxing historians pick that fight as the biggest upset, certainly of modern times. On the other hand it's a love/hate thing with Floyd and many haters or those who dislike his personality have been watching and waiting some time for him to be taken down a peg. I love watching Floyd, absolutely amazing fighter no doubt, however due to his personality traits, their is always that little bit of me that wouldn't mind seeing him get dropped.
I sat on the fence.
The Floyd loss would be much more shocking to me because Floyd is training as if he's facing God himself. Tyson, on the other hand, barely trained, was knocked down by his sparring partners, his corner didn't have the proper equipment, etc.
i would say floyd's loss
will be the new tyson-douglas loss
i mean i voted for floyd's loss, but tyson was straight destroying mothe****ers left and right
was known as the baddest man in boxing and then here comes buster douglas and ko's him?
floyd's loss would shake up boxing, and would be amazing especially in the first round
