It's no secret that Shane "My tooth hurts and I need a vacation" Mosley didn't even try to win his last bout against Manny Pacquiao. Now whether that was because he went into that fight injured and was in no condition to put up a good performance like he claims it was, or because he took some extra "lay down" money under the table from Bob "I Have No Soul" Arum we will probably never know, but quite rightly a lot of people were thoroughly disgusted with his performance. I would like to believe that there was something badly wrong with Mosley in that fight and that he gave an honest performance, but given his more than shady past I find it hard to take anything that the guy says seriously. Let's not forget that this is a man who claimed for years that he was not a cheater despite being caught and that he never knew that he had PED's in his system and then just a few years later admitted that he did in fact know all along. This is also a guy who avoided Floyd Mayweather for years when he was the bigger name and had more to lose, only to suddenly start chasing the fight and labelling Mayweather a coward when their roles reversed and Floyd started to show him the same disregard that he had been shown for much of their careers.
All things considered, I think it is fair to say that Shane Mosley is one of the most deceitful and untrustworthy individuals in the sport of boxing and I wouldn't question anyone who thinks that he threw the fight with Manny Pacquiao and never intended to win it from the get-go. I think at this point in his career, Mosley is only really in it for the money. He is suffering badly, and will continue to get wrecked financially due to his divorce and it is a well known fact that for a guy who has faced so many big names, Mosley hasn't made nearly as much money as he should have done (Mosley only got a 2 million guarentee for the Margarito fight). I know that Shane has been talking a lot and acting like he is going to give it his best, but he was doing the same thing before the Pacquiao fight and brought absolutley nothing to the table. I think this Canelo fight is basically Mosley's idea of "one last payday" and I could easily imagine him taking some extra money and laying down for the young lion. I'm not saying that he couldn't win, anything can happen in the sport of boxing, but I think that after the brutal pounding Mayweather gave him, mentally he is just not the same fighter anymore. He's much more cautious now, and even if he does give it a good go, he will probably just get rolled over, so rather than mixing it up with a young, strong champion like Canelo and possibly getting stopped for the first time in his career, I can easily see him just playing it safe and looking to avoid being knocked out at all costs, and getting some extra money for being "co-operative", like Joshua Clottey did after his non performance against Manny Pacquiao, also.
Anyway. That's my thoughts. What do you think? Do you think Mosley will come to win or will he just lay down and not even try like he did against Pacquiao? I would like to think that he will come to try and win but I highly doubt it considering his previous shameless performance and deceitful and crooked past.
Poll coming.
I think we will see a similar situation to Pac/Oscar where the young lion will just be too much for Shane to handle and he will eventually just mail it in. I foresee Nazim Richardson throwing in the towel in one of the late rounds.
Its just one of those things where the mind still has the will and determination but the body just won't respond anymore.
I don't think Mosley was paid to lose either the Floyd fight or the Pacquiao fight. He just loses heart and goes into survival mode as Floyd likes to say. I think he came to win both fights. When Floyd took his best shot and came back strong he quite mentally after the 2nd. round. When Pacquiao knocked him down he quite trying to win and just tried to survive. If he fought hard against Pac then Pac might have KOed him instead of just chasing him.If Arum paided him it would be for Mosley to get KOed. I voted that he is coming to win against Canelo. If Canelo starts hurting Mosley he will probably go into survival mode for the third fight in a row. I think he trained hard to win. He just doesn't have much determination anymore and gives up easily.
I think he'll come to win this time around. The veteran will go to extra lengths to show the world that the newbie has to work his way up.
I think he will come into the fight with the mind set of winning, but I don't see him going to "extra lengths" to win it. I think Mosley is underestimating Canelo in this fight. He seems to think that he's basically just another Margarito and that's simply delusional. Mosley is going to have to work hard and dig deep to win this fight and considering how mentally weak he looked against Mora and Pacquiao I just don't see him doing that. He doesn't have that warrior spirit anymore. I think his main motivation and why he is fighting right now is the money and as long as he doesn't get stopped, I don't think he'll mind losing too much.
So the general consesus seems to be that Mosley will try in the early rounds but if he starts getting hit too much, he will mail it in and stop trying to win and just do everything he can to avoid being stopped. This fight will be pretty interesting early on, I think. Mosley might have a moment, but he's washed up and doesn't have the speed and stamina that he used to have. Plus his defence is terrible. People want to say "Alvarez doesn't have good defence, so Mosley will win" but the reality is that Mosley's defence is just as bad if not worse so it's not like he will be able to land 2-3 shots then get out and do it all over again. They will both be getting hit, but Canelo is younger, faster, possibly stronger and has a much more varied and measured attack so I think he will land a lot more. Canelo will be able to land on him and even if Mosley tries to do what he did in the Pacquiao fight, I don't think it will work. Canelo won't slow down and engage in a boring, tappy gloves, kissy-face sparring match with him like Manny Pacquiao did. He's coming to make a statement and I can see him stopping Shane. Not early in the fight but maybe late on because Mosley has shown very limited stamina recently.
Payday!
He kinda has to keep fighting because of that damn Divorce with his ex-wife I think
******* judges in California basically gave her EVERYTHING!
I hope he comes to fight though, because I think he may have one more big upset left in him and Canelo is really nothing "SPECIAL"
Mosley struggles with SKILL BOXERS, but in his PRIME, he would DESTROY a fighter with Canelo style, but now...I DON'T KNOW!
These dudes are so unrealistic. He's getting his biggest paydays while being clearly out of his prime. I would do the same thing.
Two, you guys forget that this is boxing and punches can cause serious damage. Swinging for the fences and brawling when you don't have the ability to do it effectively anymore can get you hurt (especially against upper echelon fighters).
Exactly. The fact is that Mosley has absolutely no pull in who he fights if he chooses to do so. He's clearly shot. Yet these great/amazing fighters have him on speed dial for a quick easy "W" on their resume. The last time Mosley was worth a damn was when he fought Floyd. He was proven shot that very night & double confirmation in the fight with Mora. Yet somehow he managed to get a call from team Pacman & now team Canelo. That's not his fault.
I agree. Shane Mosley is a fierce competitor, enough that he was once pressured into using performance enhancing drugs to get an edge. He seems to have that sort of athletic personality that ensures he'll show up 100% to win on May 5th.
Like was said, though, like when he got nailed by Pacquiao and looked up with his, 'Oh my, the buffet is closed..?' bewildered expression, he went into survival mode and never attempted to win another round.
He'll do that with Canelo - if he starts getting slapped around, he'll find a way to survive, even if he means he stops throwing and trying to do ****.
So the real question is, can the young ginger get Old Man Mosley out before he goes into that survival programming?
I'm still trying to see how exactly it's Mosley's fault that these supposed great/amazing fighters keep dusting him of & offering him a paycheck to whoop his a$$. I don't blame him 1 bit. What's he supposed to do? Turn down millions??

I think he's definitely coming to win and I give him a good shot. However, if Canelo starts owning him then I think Mosley will see the writing on the wall and quit. I think he'll give up and then retire. Getting owned by Floyd & Pac is one thing but if Canelo starts owning him then he will say he's done and quit during the fight.
I think he's coming to win though because he's been totally counted out atleast 2 other times in his career only to revive it. He also think's Canelo is not half as good or experinced as Floyd & Pac so he thinks he can legitmatly win, espically when you look at Canelo's resume. The question is how long with that belief last
He's supposed to give the fans everything he's got and, at the very least, an honest performance. I don't think he did that against Manny "I let other people make my decisions for me" Pacquiao, and considering that his legacy is already tarnished with the fact that he's a proven cheater and the way that he performed, or didn't perform against Manny, I can easily see him laying down again. Mosley has proven before that he has very little integrity. Look at the way that he ducked Mayweather for years and then suddenly started chasing the fight and calling Floyd a coward when Mayweather started to show him that what goes around comes around. Not to mention the fact that he lied about not being a cheater for all those years, and then admitted that he knew all along.
Explain the bold.
arum didn't have to pay mosely to take a dive..........just watch his fight with mora........he just doesn't have it anymore
You are right about him being washed up. I think the Mayweather fight ruined him mentally, because he doesn't have that same killer instict anymore. The beating he took made him forget about being a "warrior". He's much more cautious now, but at least against Mora he actually came forward and threw some meaningful punches. Against Manny, he didn't even begin to try. A number of fighters have had their purses withheld for doing far more than Mosley did in that fight.
