Question: You’re answering some of your naysayers and critics by moving up in weight to fight Cotto, one of the best in the sport today. Would you consider more fights at 154 or possibly higher?
Mayweather: It’s no surprise that when you’re the best at what you do that you become the topic of debate. It comes with the territory. My career has been criticized and critiqued since day one. In my last fight against Victor Ortiz, people thought that he wasn’t experienced enough, yet he held a championship belt. It doesn’t matter who I fight, when I fight them or how successful I am, people will always have something to say.
Guess what? I don’t listen to the negative. I stay positive and focused. I love a big challenge, and that is what I have in Miguel Cotto on May 5.
Criticism has never played a role in determining what I do in the ring, and it never will. I went up in weight because I am confident that I can beat Cotto at his preferred weight or any other weight, for that matter. The fact that I’m a champion in five different weight classes proves that weight is not a factor, and I’m willing to consider more fights at 154 or heavier if I believe that it is the next best move for me.
After the Cotto fight, whatever is the next best option for me, then my advisers Al Haymon and Leonard Ellerbe will negotiate and make that happen. I have accomplished great things in my boxing career and will continue to look for the best fighters available to fight.
For every critic that I silence, there will be another one out there to come up with something to discredit my success and my legacy. All I can do is stay focused on my May 5 fight against Miguel Cotto and look at it as yet another opportunity to prove the naysayers wrong. I am going to show, once again, that I am the best fighter in the world today. I will silence the critics — even if it is just for one night!
At 35 years of age it is expected for Floyd Mayweather to remain at 154 after this fight. Especially if he checks in to the ccdc and eats a boatload of hunny buns and cinnamon rolls, He's going to remain at 154 so unless Pac moves up, that fight is never going to happen.
He wants to get as far away from Pac as possible
pac should have just taken mayweather's offer of 40 million. that is all he should deserve after losing and looking bad against JMM. floyd coming off a win? yup. floyd undefeated? yup. pac off a win? on those fixed cards yes, but the world knows he didnt win. undefeated? nah. at one time he said he would fight floyd for free, i guess he was joking but 40 million is much better than free. martinez said he would fight floyd with an 80-20 split i think it was.
the problem is pac generates huge ppv and money too so Arum won't let him take that offer cause he thinks he should make like 70 or 80 million but **** that, if he wants to prove to the world he is the best just he can say i will fight him whenever he is out of jail and will be ready for 40 million, and then if floyd puts up another excuse as a barrier to the fight than we can be sure floyd is ducking him
Cmon guy..you can be a Pac fan but dont be stupid..the facts still remain.
Arums excuses
1. Mannys minor cut needs more than 6 months to heal.
2. The Date...whys Floyd stuck on May 5th..why not June (lol)
3.This fights to big to just put in a Casino and im building a mega outside stadium 4 this fight and weve already started.
4. I dont know who to talk to about making this fight (even though Floyds been with Haymon and Ellerbee 4 eva and GB has co-promoted every one of his fights since De La Hoya...and Todd Duboef has FMJ cell number and they text each other all the time).
5. Floyd calls Manny Personally to make the fight.
But of course after trying for months when Floyd says fu-ck it im not negotiating money after Manny said he'd take less and having to deal with all Arums Bull-sh-it.....Its Floyds Fault!!! Duckweather See he didnt want the fight !! Ha!!!
I cant stand Bradley , but I hope he destroys Pac just so all his dumb ass no-nothing fans go away.
lmbo! you sound like one of tittybabyweathers relatives!! :nonono: bottom line.. take 50/50 floyd and get your *ss whipped!!! no for that matter take the 45/45 and winner gets the extra 10% then if arum OR pacqs pulls out with some BS.. its on them!!!
Mayweather, the guy who's called other fighters "leftovers" and "damaged goods", including the one he is fighting next, and made weight-draining and PED accusations all to degrade Pacquiao's opponents, is crying about critics criticising his opponents? lol, this guy is a laugh
It all depends, Floyd has options.
If Floyd fights in December, because we know a Pac fight isn't happening, and neither is Sergio if he indeed doies fight in September, he has a couple options for December.
Alvarez, if he beats a Top SWW in September first, would be a good fight. Berto, if he beats Ortiz handily, would be a good fight. Khan, if he beats Peterson and than a Top WW in August/September, would be a good fight.
Floyd has options, hopefully he and Manny get their s**t sraight in 2013. If not, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

You're reaching, it's both parties not just one or the other.
As for the call, 40mill no ppv...this fight is 50/50 or a higher split to the winner.
Bradley won't destroy Pac but he will upset the world, Desert storm all day.
If he can't make weight, then you can't consider him champion at 154.
I don't consider him a champ at 154, that title was rubbish but the fight was good seeing Marg get his ass beat.
"For every critic that I silence, there will be another one out there to come up with something to discredit my success and my legacy"
what a great quote.
At 4:50, Kellerman asks Cotto about Floyd's fight with Ortiz:
Cotto responds: "The inexperience of Victor killed him, you know ...."
and Floyd was there to hear Cotto say that .... no response from Floyd ... Seems like Cotto was able to silence Floyd's BS!!!
So Floyd is fighting Cotto, who Pac KOed, at 154 because he badly needed a big money fight for may 5th. Pac turned down the Cotto fight at anything over 147 because he already KOed Cotto and did not need to bow to Cotto's terms since he had 3 other fights to choose from. I knew all about it and it has nothing to do with anything I said on this thread so now you shut the **** up. And yes I know Pac KOed Cotto at a catchweight of 145. If Cotto knew was going to be weak at 145 then why sign the contract? Is he stupid?
How has it got nothing to do with what you said ? You said about the weight Cotto is comfortable at, and I gave you 3 links of which he is saying he is comfortable at 154 but he could've gone down to 150 to fight your boy the infamous catchweight king. Either you didn't get the point or you are not very clever.

I think Pac is a 4 to 1 favorite over Bradley. I don't look at things one way and I never said a word about Pac, you did. I was talking about Floyd because he is the subject of this thread but you wrongly assumed I was comparing him to Pac.Since you dragged Pac into it I'll answer your questions. Pac fighting Bradley won't silence his critics either but the difference is Pac never said it would. A ton of guys Floyd beat first? Last time I checked it was 3 guys. Floyd is the one who made a huge deal about it and started the term leftovers and trash the hell out of Pac over it. I have never heard Pac call anyone a leftover. Now he is fighting a Pac "leftover" by his own standard is he not?. Now your trashing Pac for fighting the great EM. 7 years ago when I never even said Pac's name. You seem a little desparate to trash Pac when he isn't even the topic. Every fighter that ever lost a fight is somebodies leftover. It's a really stupid term. Maybe that's why Pac picked Bradley. At least he won't hear that leftover BS.
You did say a word about Pac. The reason I brought up his name is because it was you that said "a guy that Pac destroyed". Why not a guy that Margarito destroyed, which was before Pac and what most think damaged Cotto the most? Floyd beat 4 guys 1st if you count JMM. Why would he fight him again after Floyd shut him out, espically at a weight that everyone said looked way too big for JMM?
Now, I never said anything bad about Pac. Im not one of those Floyd fans who diss Pac. I think Pac is a beast and will run through Bradley in 5 or 6 rounds. Also in Floyd's defense I will say that I dont truly consider the guys he fought after Floyd leftovers but you could argue in moreso on the merits of Oscar only had 1 fight in between and he looked like crap at 150. Hatton had 2 fights in between and looked like crap in one of them.
Mosley only had 1 fight in between which was a draw against a garbage fighter in Mora. JMM had 2 (real) solid fights in between but that was at LW and they were going to fight at 143. I think you could argue that Cotto has had 3 fights since Pac, all at 154 (basically), and is looking better with the new trainer.
I personally am in the minority. I think boxers get too hard of a rap and expectations can be somewhat unrealistic. I truly have no problem with the Cotto or Bradley fights. I wanna see them both. After that I wouldnt even go crazy if Floyd fought Canelo while Pac fought someone like the Ortiz-Berto winner but after that they need to fight or Floyd needs to fight Sergio
You don't have to be. But when you talk about "one of the best" today, you at least have to be a legit top 5 guy in your division. I don't even think Cotto would be top 5 if he actually starts fighting the rest of the top 10 JMW's. He would not beat Lara, he would not beat Williams, he would not beat Molina, Kirkland, he doesn't beat Martinez if Martinez comes down to 154. I doubt the current Cotto even beats Alvarez. Cotto is a bottom 10 JMW. He's not one of the best.
Come on man you can't be serious with how bad you dogging Cotto right now. Cotto can beat Kirkland and Williams. Those are two fighters who have absolutely no skill or ring intelligence and I see Cotto beating them for sure. I think Cotto can beat Canelo Alvarez as well, what has he done or shown that makes you feel he can beat Cotto? We both know Cotto is not prime like he says he is but still to say he can't beat Kirkland, Williams and Alvarez is just wrong IMO. Hell Williams is done IMO that dude just takes punishment(funny he is called the Punisher) and drained his own body to take punishment which made it pile up even worse.
Cotto called for 150 as I explained so try reading carefully. I hate catchweights so please don't put words in my mouth that I never said. I am just sick of Floyd bragging that he is so fearless fighting Cotto at his best weight when he knows Cotto and him are the same size and he expects to win easily. If he fights a big jr. middleweight like Matinez or Canelo at 154 then brag.

Now shut the **** up
Pac rejected a 5050 split in 09....
HE is the reason this fight ain't happened...
10 million for every lb over 147
8 oz gloves
14 day de-juice/cutoff period..............and a 5050 split............
Damn...that's a good deal
Cotto just admitted Mayweather WAS NEVER IN HIS PLANS and that Arum NEVER even mentioned a Floyd bout with him...
All the while Arum was telling the media Floyd was ducking him..
Mayweather was never in Team Pacquio's plans...
Bob knows what he's doing..he KNOWS he doesn't have the fighters to beat FMJ....the ONLY way he wins is in the media.
WTF are you on about ? 150 is not even a weight class, its a catchweight. Fight is good at 154 for the belt. Have you not had enough already of the catchweights.Cotto called for 150 as I explained so try reading carefully. I hate catchweights so please don't put words in my mouth that I never said. If Floyd makes a fair offer and Arum refuses then it's back to Arum's fault. Two superstars who both have to compromise or the fight doesn't get done. That's how I see it.
Just because you're not P4P doesn't mean you're not one of the best. Cotto is still a top fighter

how big of a favorite is Pac against Bradley and how much silencing did he do when he was fighting a ton of guys after Floyd had aloready beat them or EM after Raheem had shut him out? Cant look at things one way
Actually in articles posted Cotto has said 154 is his best and most comfortable weight and thanked PBF for fighting him at 154. I think he just wanted to make Margarito lose weight and fight at the same weight he fought Manny at. Cotto knew he could make 150 a lot easier than Margarito could.Yes you are right. I guess the point I am making is Cotto is a small JR middleweight or a big welterweight. He did call for 150 to get an edge on Margarito as you say. I think he is comfortable at any weight between 150 and 154. I doubt he would call for a weight he was not comfortable at just to make Margarito weak. Only Cotto knows for sure.
Just because you're not P4P doesn't mean you're not one of the best. Cotto is still a top fighter
Floyd has fought the best in divisions but has yet to fight a great fighter. Hatton and and JMM were great fighters but he bloated them up to divisions they didnt look good in let alone great in.
Cotto isnt one of the best fighters in the world yet he might be one of the best of his division. But thats no problem for floyd as he is not known for actively seeking the best to fight.
