abril beat the bag out of him and it had very little to do with the clinches. rios looked horrible and abril boxed well I'll watch the fight to see if Abril's usage of clinches fits my criteria. If it does, Kim has a point. If it doesn't, Abril deserves all the credit for his performance against Rios and it is another example of Kim being a Top Rank shill.

Steve Kim's columns were one of the first boxing columns I frequented; he's a good writer that brings up good points, but he's partial to Bob Arum and Top Rank to a point where the line of honestly partial writer and shill is blurred... He constantly tries to justify Top Rank's decisions, whether if they're clearly in the wrong or not. I haven't watched the fight, but I dislike excessive clinching and using clinching as a persistent tactic. It can completely change fights for the worse. If the Berto-Collazo ref wouldn't have warned and deducted a point from Berto early in the fight, Berto probably would have hit and hugged his way to another ho hum decision instead of having both fighters dig down deep in a FOTY candidate. I agree with Kim(Never thought I'd say that). I don't remember most of the fight, but I do remember I was pissed at Abril for hugging all the damn time. I was happy with the robbery. Clinchers should not be rewarded. That's not "fighting smart" that's fighting dirty, breaking the rules, and it shouldn't be allowed in the sport.

Surprising that Kieran Mulvaney (who does and isn't) always talks him up like he knows his stuff and isn't biased.

When Molina and Abril do it they're ruining boxing but when Mosley does it against Margarito or Hopkins or Ward (Miranda, Green, Bika) do it they're master technicians and "old school". Alot of these american fans and writers are absolute clowns. For the record Abril didn't clinch much his tactics on the inside fighting off Rios's chest, protecting his right with his glove, using his shoulder for his left side and standing at an angle to take alot of his body away as a target shut Rios's inside game down. that's what i saw. abril completely neutralized rios' inside game, which rios is known for, and took that puto to school. what makes it even better is that abril stood there in front of him and marched forward to back rios up instead of doing what molina or alexander did (punch punch clinch). those jabs and leaping hooks were brilliant.

and we care about Steve Kim's opinion...because..???
