I ilke JulianFoster88's take on this fantasy fight. You gotta give footwork to Hopkins but power and combinations to Toney. This would be a dirty fight on Hopkins side but I favor Toney at 160. 175 would be a different fight altogether that I'd favor Hopkins in. Toney by decision at 160.
Toney was pretty inconsistent at 160. He looked brilliant in the draw with McCallum, not so great in his close win over him, terrible against Tiberi, okay against Johnson and Wolfe, I think he often gets too much criticism for struggling before stopping Nunn.
Toney would have to be on top of his game against Hopkins. But I pick Hopkins largely for the fact that Toney, for pretty much all of his career, was much better against aggressive guys rather than guys who used more movement and made Toney come after them. Hopkins is obviously a very intelligent fighter in the ring who is not going to give his opponent the best chance of winning. He'd probably box and use more movement and try to make Toney chase him, en route to taking a decision.
If both of them are in top shape then I think Hopkins wins a close fight at either weight.Hopkins is always in top shape but Toney often is not. Two great middleweights.
