I was just reading some comments on a thread I made the other day. Some people STILL actually claim Tito beat Oscar which is mind boggling to me. I mean, I'd understand if youtube had never been invented and you were going by some emotional attachment you felt when you saw the fight that night, but come on..Really? Oscar OUTCLASSED Tito. Even Tito didn't think he won. Look at his demeanor during the fight. The dude looked DESPERATE trying to be effective. Even my PR friends that I watched it with weren't excited at the end of the fight because they thought Oscar was going to win...right until the cards were read. After that, everyone got amnesia and it was all "Of course Tito won!" So weird.
So, since Tito didn't win but about 3 or 4 rounds, got tagged all day, received a boxing lesson, and could only follow Oscar around the ring in the hopes of landing something because he couldn't box him and was only effective towards the end when Oscar was coasting to a easy victory, how is it that you guys don't feel Margarito beat Cotto in the rematch? Because essentially, the same $h!t happened.
Are you implying that had he actually fought Tito instead of ran the last part of the fight it would have ended a draw?
all I could say is it would of been a different fight
It's no coincidence Don king's biggest stars got their biggest gifts against their toughest tests in 1999
did not read.I don't care, everyone else did read.
Didn't want to reply to ths thread again but...
You provoked me
no way, like I said earlier, Oscar ran the last
3 rounds that's why he lost otherwise I score it
a draw...
Another thing I wouldn't use Oscar and spanked that ass
in the same sentence...I don't know why but don't

glad the TS admit the Analogy was bad because it had me confused lol :nonono:
I had no attachment to either fighter then and I still think Trinidad won because he kept fighting while Oscar was just trying to get it to the cards, was Oscar winning during the fight??? ABSOLUTELY! But I thought he took his foot off the gas too soon and basically allowed Tito to fight his way back into that fight
Probably should have been called a Draw though instead of just flat out giving it to Tito, but no question most of that fight I thought and I still think Oscar looked like the better fighter...MOST OF THAT FIGHT! But Tito determination and will can't be overlooked, he never gave up even if he thought he was Down
One fight was a stoppage the the other was a decision. I fail to see the comparison. Unless you are saying Don King screwed Margarito the way he did De La Hoya with the judges.
It's no coincidence Don king's biggest stars got their biggest gifts against their toughest tests in 1999So if the fighter you like doesn't win then the fight was fixed. That is convenient. I don't think the Tito Oscar fight or the 3 Pacquiao Marquez fights or the Khan vs Peterson were fixed and I know you don't give a damn what I think.
The Cotto Margarito fight wasn't anything like the Oscar Tito fight. If your saying Oscar outscored Tito by the same amount that Cotto outscored Margarito I think that is ridiculous. Different fights, different fighters, nothing what so ever to do with each other.

:lol1: gift.Call it close but never a gift.
Past-present, Arum,Al hayom & WBC.Go cry me a river.Boxing's full of those.
Because other people scored the fight different than you does not make them wrong. I do not think that fight went the way you described it.To be accurate you must score a fight round by round and many fans, perhaps you, don't do that. They wait until the fight is over and score it from memory. Oscar fans know he won most of the first 8 rounds so they round it off and say he won all 8 rounds and gave Tito only the last 3 or 4 rounds and call it 8 to 4 or 9 to 3 for Oscar. But if you study the round by round scorecards of a large number of respected boxing writers including the ones that gave the fight to Oscar, most of them gave Tito rounds 2 and 4 and some gave him round 7 so that makes it a very close fight. In close fights the opinion of most fans becomes a popularity contest. They give the close or even rounds to the fighter they like. Take the close Leonard Hagler fight. Most Hagler fans think he won. Most Leonard fans think Leonard won. Tito thought he won but he knew he was in Oscar's back yard and it was close so sure he was worried.Oscar was extremely popular in the USA so most thought he won. Most Puerto Ricans think Tito won including their boxing writers. A writer for Oscar's hometown paper also scored the fight 115 to 113 for Tito. I am a Tito fan and I scored it for him 6 rounds to 5 with 1 even but if Oscar had won I would have been with ok with that.
People still are crying about this fight?
These fights have ZERO alike analogy.
And didn't Trinidad enter the lions mouth fighting in Vegas? He wasnt even the crowd favorite.Their was a crucial judge that said if oscar didn't run he would of given him the fight. But i don't give a ****, when you run you lose points. Those are boxing 101 basics.Oscar chose that route and abandon his game plan in the end.
fine. I'll take my L with the analogy. But lets say it would've kept going..is it fair to say that if those same judges were there, they would have scored it for margarito?
I'm going to lean on maybe not, because you can't find any meaningful blows landed by Margarito until about the 7th, and that was it. The rest were arm punches when they were clinching
I haven't seen the Tito fight in a few years, but he was landing punches throughout. You can find early rounds for Tito and then of course the late rounds.
A generous judge could give Margarito maybe one round
