I know he's a JMW.
But since we are doing this deal between Dibella and Arum might as well go all the way with it I guess.
You know Sergio aint fighting Golovkin and Pirog (Scheduled for fight)
Quillin fighting Winky.
Who else is there?
This man speaks truth.
Vanes is a less talented, less skilled, more flawed version of Khan and Linares. Oh Freddie lol

Golovkin is my first choice. But you know Dibella and Sergio will never even say his name.
He's like the Voldemort of the middleweight division.
Maybe he's on the level of Barker since he hasn't fought no one either. But, deffinetly a level below Macklin. At least Macklin is somewhat proven.
What is Vanes? Macklin goes life and death with Sturm...Vanes goes life and death with Saul Roman. Vanes needs a gift decision it could be considered a robbery in order to get the W over a shot to pieces Kassim Ouma. What has he done? And, he has had opportunities to prove his worth. But, he goes and turns it down like the Angulo fight.

Vanes has struggled against weak comp and been dropped. Sergio is beating undefeated guys who have never been down in their careers and guys that have beaten champions but gotten robbed.
I say Dzinziruk beats Vanes, they are both 154 guys, make it happen. Both Macklin and Barker stop Vanes, fairly easily imo.
Vanes is slick but he has little pop and bad balance, plus I think he gets carried by the judges who seem to give him points when I don't see much going on at times.

lol. I've gone through the thread and I agree with everything negative said about Vanes.
But I also haven't heard an alternative. I think I read a bum from Argentina.
Are there any fighters that are free for Sergio?
Not named Golovkin.

Sergio only fights every 5-7 months, so when would he be fighting??? He fought in March, and than September is 6 months away, right on schedule for him. I can't see Sergio fighting 3 fights in 6 months time.
He just needs to kick back and relax, fight the Chavez-Lee winner, and than pursure Floyd for the first half of 2013. That's what I'd do if I was him. And if he can't secure Floyd, fight the winner of the Pirog-Geale fight.
Vanes should actually fight a contender, someone like Delvin Rodriguez would be a great fight. They can make that fight for July 14th, the same card as Marquez-Rios-Donaire in Cowboy Stadium.

Vanes and Canelo are similar, but this next Mosley fight (As old as mosley is....) is better than what Vanes has...so Canelo is a "step up" in the sense Canelo has been in with better fighters..I guess lol.
Martinez should fight someone at 154, Kirkland, vanes, anybody. Even Lara, but Lara might be too risky when he's seemingly this close to landing a big-ish fight. What's interesting to see is what the loser of Mayweather-Cotto will do. Martinez may be able to entice the loser into a fight at the very least, especially if Cotto wants to stay relevant and he's the one who loses.
I'd prefer Martinez vs Cotto-Mayweather winner OR loser than Chavez Jr. The thing about 160 is that there's not a lot to win... Sure, you beat people that everybody knows you can beat anyway....might as well make it a higher profile opponent and stay in the better division of 54, right? That's how I see it. Stay busy with some random guy, and start negotiating ahead of time with the winner/loser of Cotto-mayweather and have chavez jr to fall back on. But nope...they're putting their eggs in the Chavez Jr - Arum Troll basket.. smh
No but Canelo was very hurt by Cotto's brother. Not Cotto, but his brother.
Canelo was also losing to Gomez before the stoppage.
I've heard people give Rhodes props for his ranking, but I'm not convinced he was a better fighter than Greene.
Canelo and Vanes aren't that far apart.
When he was 19 though. Come on.
But what has Barker done?
What about Macklin's weak defense?
At least with Vanes, you have suspense. Sure Sergio will be the favorite, but we've been waiting on Vanes to step up for awhile now.
Or should Sergio just fight the #11 ranked middleweight or something?
Like Phantom said, we won't get the fights we want for Sergio so why not Vanes?
I'm not saying Vanes vs Sergio is my first choice, but if it came on the TV, I wouldn't be upset with it like I am the handling of Rios' career.
If you want to gripe at opponents, Rios is the one to do it against. Not Vanes vs Sergio.
No, I have no problem with Sergio fighting him if Serg were to move to 154 and fight him there. I think that pound for pound that Barker and Macklin would beat Vanes. They both have solid skillsets and based on what I've seen of Vanes, I'd put my money on them.
Sure I'd watch a Sergio-Vanes fight if it happened.....I'm definitely not saying that...just commenting on Vanes being a step up from Sergio's recent comp.
I really want to see Sergio crush Chavez jr but I think they will try anything and everything to avoid it though.
If by some miracle he has an interim fight, it'll probably be against a bum in Argentina. I doubt he'll want to risk injuring himself before the Chavez fight.
A more interesting question is what type of undercard Top Rank and Dibella can put together using their fighters.
Sergio is at the age where he could get old out of the blue...he should probably take a fight if just to remain active...He could just 'get old' tomorrow...
I wouldnt mind Vanes...I'd look at it as just a tune up or an activity fight. GG would be high risk but at his age all could be but it doesn't matter who he fights if his payday is in Sept...
If they do fight tho and I don't see it happening but if Vanes wins it he wins it...its boxing...
Maybe he's on the level of Barker since he hasn't fought no one either. But, deffinetly a level below Macklin. At least Macklin is somewhat proven.

Exactly, I could not have said it better!!! Vanes had his opportunity. Martinez should fight someone before Chavez b/c more than likely that Chavez/Lee winner will not be fighting Martinez until October at the earliest and lets not pretend Martinez is making 3-4 million a fight so he could definitely use another payday if he's gonna risk sitting out until the end of the year. A good fight for Martinez would be Molina or Anthony Mundine type. I would say Lara but that may make for a boring fight.
Why not?
Should he keep fighting the Macklin's and Barkers?
I think he should at least fight in the Macklin and Barker level and not go down to the Vanes level
I don't. But I'll hear you out.
Why do you think that?
Vanes has struggled against weak comp and been dropped. Sergio is beating undefeated guys who have never been down in their careers and guys that have beaten champions but gotten robbed.

Don't think Vanes is ready just yet, and this is coming from a fan. I'd like to see Vanes fight some other guys in the division first, perhaps put an end to all the hype behind Canelo.
Lol Margarito??
What in the world would beating up on Margarito prove that already hasn't been proved in the last few years?
The whooping would be worse than the one Pac put on him. Not to mention the eye.
Terrible choice.
It's a fight that would make Martinez more money than a Vanes fight. I really don't think at age 37 or 38, Martinez is out to prove himself to anybody. I personally don't care either I just want to be entertained, and you can't tell me that Martinez/Margarito wouldn't be entertaining, if only because one guy would get a beat down.
Hey I thought vanes was suppose to fight Kirkland-Molina winner?
I think that was suppose to be Lara.
I'd rather him wait for Chavez, but if he has to fight and Vanes is a choice, I'd rather see him in the ring with Margarito...
He already said he won't fight Margarito before. That he would feel sorry for him .
