Look what he's done with Johnny Gonzalez.
He would seem to be a perfect fit for Linares.
Freddie spread to thin to train Linares effectively right now.

Agreed. Nacho is a great fit. Freddie and Jorge doesnt seem like a good match anyway even if Roach wasnt spread so thin...
I don't know about that. Id pick Linares to totally outclass Rios.
Come on man, you're a good poster I expect better from you. Linares is my boy I've been hyping him since before the Larios fight and I think Rios is overrated but his power is real. Linares would get stopped.
There is no excuse for that loss. Yes the stopage a was a quick. But... he looked like **** the whole way through the fight. He was getting hit with basically everything that the guy was throwing at him. Wide, sloppy right hands that should NEVER get close to a fighter of his caliber.
I have a suspicion that they were sparring southpaws in camp preparing for a Demarco rematch, instead of preparing for the man infront of him.
He needs someone that can teach him to sit down on his punches, and fight with authority.
So let me get this straight......I've been a fan of Linares' for awhile and just because he loses, I should stop and take him out of my sig??? Great fan you are homie. I don't quit on guys once they lose a few fights.
I still have hopes for the kid :fing02:
Hey bro, you might wanna start getting Linares' name out of your sig. We're looking at the next Juanma but with better boxing skills. I was very disappointed as well but the longer you hold on to it the harder it is to let go... just let it go...

guys have worked their way back into the fight after something like that. many of them were great fighters. linares is not going to be one of those guys.
and it happened twice. there's more to it than simply being caught cold (which he was.) he cant take the punches well. and when he does take the punches he doesnt behave the way you want to see a fighter who is being touted as a potential great
i dont know how much more you guys need to see. i've made up my mind. i hope he proves me wrong, but i dont see the kid making it anywhere in this sport. he'll get knocked out again if he keeps fighting.
brandon rios would put him in a pine box
He was still pretty green back then. It was really the first time he ever got handled like that. He got hit on the temple(side of the head, above the ear), not the jaw. That's what put him down, he then hopped up quickly. Most experienced fighters(ex: JMM), take their time and get up, regaining their marbles.
Linares jumped up quickly, got back into the fight quickly and get owned. That's green. That's like Ortiz to Maidana. Jumping right back up and getting owned(he quit though).
The DeMarco fight was an example of poor coaching. He was told nothing going into the 11th round. He wasn't told anything encouraging, let alone how to stay alive with the cut. So he went into the 11th, doing what got him in a tough spot in the first place. A guy like Nazim would have adjusted and told him to box and move. Don't stand still and don't trade shots.
Instead Linares got drawn into the punch fest again and got the blood in his eyes, at which point it was too late to do anything about the blood. Besides stay blind and hope for the best.
The fight he just lost. Is different. Linares tried to do combos and flurries like Pacquiao and Khan. That **** got him clocked on the head with a major right that got him cut open.
I agree that he needs better defense but a coach can fix a fighter like Linares. Someone who boxes and uses their brain. Roach just ain't that guy, he focuses on high offense. As a result, Linares is training for high tempo offense. Someone like Nacho or Steward can reel him in and get him to adjust between rounds.
He has questionable punch resistance though(but also is unbalanced physically; big upper body, small lower body). I agree with that. Not chinny. He took the bum's shot on his chin better than Salgado's hook to the temple.
I don't know about that. Id pick Linares to totally outclass Rios.
He couldn't handle DeMarco what makes you think he can handle Rios who has more power?
The Salgado fight was just him getting iced cold. There was nothing he could do once he got caught like that.

Its either that or the Arum way where its bum central every fight. I'd rather find out about these guys early on like Ortiz/Maidana and Linares vs anyone who could punch than have them fight total slop all the time until the big "matchup".
My point is that he did fight a cab driver, they just chose one who could punch.
If I'm GBP, I match Linares with a better quality fighter just not a big puncher. It's just intelligent match making.
You do that, Linares wins this fight and has his chance against DeMarco again. If he can pull that out all of a sudden he's a titleist at 135 and his stock is very high and you get him and yourself paid.
We know what Linares is already, we knew before this fight. The point is to get out of him what you can and poor matchmaking is not how you do that.
He's a fighter, the DeMarco fight proved it. Last night was a bum stoppage by a hometown ref/doctor combo. Linares could have kept fighting.
lots of balls
his instincts are off
he looks away when he gets hit on the face
he doesn't react well to big punches physically. they effect him. he's just not resilient
in terms of the gut's in deep water he's there. agreed. demarco fight showed that.
but check out his body language in the first round stoppages, particularly the salgado fight, and i think you'll get a better idea of what i'm trying to say
and the stoppage in his most recent fight wasnt protested at all by linares.

It was karma catching on to GBP and real fkin good. Karma for doing what they did at the Kirkland fight. It wasn't a bad stoppage, Linares was gonna get stopped by a KO or eventually stopped by the same doctor with the same red card cause that cut was getting worse. Hence him not complaining at all when it was stopped. Matter of fact neither Roach or Linares did. I guess neither one of them wanted to be in that fight. Did you not see that he received 10-12 stitches outside and inside the cut?
I'm still shocked. I can't beileve Linares. I've nver seen a guy with such skills that just can't seem to amount to anything good/great. I'm not going to stop being a fan of course, but I'm just stunned right now.

Trainer won't change nothing. Linares is what he is.
They said that about Khan and Johnny Gonzalez.
I'm sure they said the same about Floyd Patterson.
A bad chin is hard to work with. but with Linares's type of talent its not a career killer.
A trainer can make the difference. That's like saying Tyson would have been the same guy minus Cus.
Or Pac without Roach.
match makers???a boxer should be able to adjust and beat who's in front of them
If you have a guy you have stock in and he's coming off of a stoppage loss you don't put him in with a puncher in his next fight. Linares is young with a future ahead of him, he should be treated as such.
And it'd be one thing if GBP just went "he's past prospect stage no cab drivers for tuneups".....but they DID give him a cab driver for a tune up, they just chose one that could punch.
They are incompetent when it comes to bringing fighters up.
