linares got tagged with a lot more big shots but thompson was the one who got seriously hurt. linares was stunned in the knockdown but he fell partially due to balance. linares gets hit to much, though and while i think the stoppage was dubious, i also think that thompson would likely open that thing up in the later rounds for a legit stoppage or overwhelm him for a tko. or, may linares could've ko'd him if they continued. i definitely wanted to see more, though.
I don't think you can say he would have been stopped, in fact Thompson is the one who got hurt the most in the fight. His legs went jelly in the 1st round with one shot. Linares got rocked but he went down because he lost his equilibrium. Both guys could have been stopped.
just basing it on his past history. he doesnt seem to handle cuts and early turmoil too well. i thought he looked pretty shook up after the knockdown. i like to give fighters the benefit of the doubt but he looked like he was getting tagged pretty good and solid. i think he would have been dropped again before getting control of the situation.
entertaining and interesting card to say the least though.
Linares was always a slow starter doesn't have a chin at all and also cuts way too easy. It's a shame cuz this kid had alot of potential and is a former 2 weight world champion at 126lbs WBC and 130lbs WBA. Could have added more world titles but ever since he left Japan and got KOed by JC Salgado he hasn't seemed like the same fighter.
i've never seen a card held up like that so i was kinda unsure as to what was actually happening. i thought it was a linares cornerman who didnt speak english throwing the towel.
i wouldnt have stopped it for the cut but i think he was on the verge of getting legit-stopped regardless so i have no beef with the call.

Yes the ringside doc didn't even look at it he just waved a red card like in a soccer match lol. If it was the other way around they would have let Thompson continue. Linares was hurt though I won't deny it.

in hindsight, maybe linares was feelin himself too much and was overlooking guys like salgado/thompson. i think he would make an interesting gate-keeper type fighter now that he knows where he stands.
would love to see him in with a guy like hank lundy or provodnikoff on espn
Linares was hurt and was hit flush in round 1 as well. Didn't take the guy out when he was hurt and it came back to bite him in the ass.
The cut wasn't that bad but if you saw the DeMarco fight you could see he (Linares) was on his way to another bloody mess. He was cut from round 1.
was it stopped for over the cut?

was it stopped for over the cut? i dont speak spanish so i dont know what they're saying. i thought they were just white flagging over the inevitable. he was defintely hurt.
either way its crazy. when i saw linares coming up, and especially against larios, i thought he was gonna be one of the new guys to carry the torch. jus...wow.
The ringside doctor was corrupt! That cut was bad but not bad enough to stop the fight! He didn't even take his time to examine it closely. And Linares went down mostly because he lost his balance.
