Just rewatched the fight and Winky absolutely dominated him with the jab in the early rounds and the 1,2 in the latter...
Was it a case of Winky just being the better/more technically sound.
Tito being a bit shot after some gruelling fights
Or Winkys style just being all wrong for him?
both
tito retired after the winky fight. fought jones later on, but he was all but retired for good after winky wright
winky also had the chin, defense, pace, and jab to hold the tempo and give tito nightmares.
he kept his right hand high enough where every hook is going to hit an arm or have to travel wide to get around the guard.
obviously it would have been a better fight at 154 when tito was closer to his prime, but the style is all wrong for him. boxers with good chins were kryptonite to trinidad (oscar, winky, and of course hopkins)
Winky Wright, was and always would be a nightmare for Tito, due to styles!!
To beat Winky convincingly you need to throw lots of punches, and Tito wanst a volume puncher.
Its just goes with the styles makes fight saying!
For example Williams beat Winky, winky beat Tito and I'm 99.9% sure that Tito would had KTFO Willimas within 3 rounds!
Prime for prime, pretty sure Winky would have beaten Paul Williams. Winky hadn't fought for 2 years or something like that and was pretty much done when Paul beat him.
Disagree. Vargas gave Winky issues.
When Winky was at 154 and Tito was at 154 it would have been a dead even fight.
Vargas did get a gift & fought the 12th like a champ. However even Vargas was winning the boxing match against Tito after his failures early in that particular fight. Another thing to look at was Vargas was a undefeated star when he fought Winky who was never really a star himself.
It didn't help that the fight was at 160. Trinidad didn't belong in that division. I saw it the first time he went up and fought Joppy .... yes he won but it wasn't the same Trinidad .....
but by then (Winky) it wasn't the same Trinidad either.
He shouldn't have moved up past 154 ....
What i think is tito just wasnt that hungry fighter he once was before he lost to bhop he was hungry against bhop just over powered with strenght but me personally think the hungry tito trys harder to land those big shot and possibly defeats winky although i will say winky had a good guard around that time but tito didnt look real worried about losing like usally when he was undefeated and went down he would jump back up with more intensity.
At no time in Tito's career could he ever fvck with Winky.

a little bit of everything u said... and tito wasnt really very effective @ MW as he was @ WW... maybe he can get away with it with some styles or lesser fighters but winky aint one of those...
Even though Trinidad was not a legit middle weight, he deserves the world of credit for starting the tournament and challenging all the middle weights that were just holding onto their titles and not fighting each other. Also, yeah Winky's style was wrong for the puncher Trinidad, who couldn't figure out how to get Winky to open up his defense. I think Tito didn't have a game plan because he didn't change anything the entire fight. Love Trinidad, one of my favorite fighters, a true warrior.
Both. Winky was all wrong for Trinidad, but Trinidad was not prime by any means at that point. "Shot" or "done", I'm not sure he was quite there either. He still had fight in him, but I think Winky beats him at 154 as well. Winky Wright is crazy underrated.
