I am the first Latino who ever won a world championship coming out of Philadelphia #History
That's a cool fact.
Yes Brandon Rios comes to mind..Gracia isn't Latino, which comes from the European word Latin: from Greece, he isn't Hispanic, which comes from being from Spain. Gracia is Native American like most Puerto Ricans are. He's Taino!
WE DIDN'T LAND ON PLYMOUTH ROCK, PLYMOUTH ROCK LANDED ON US!
PRPP :boxing:
lol. i guess the natives just decided to take on spanish names then. regardless of what puerto ricans think of their black, native and spanish counterparts, very few of us are one or the others. we have a little bit of everything in us. and it doesn't have to be a bad thing. it is who we are.
So basically everything you said so far is an opinion, yes or no? That's just how you feel, cause by definition Danny, ODLH, Rios, and Arreola are all latinos.
You're absolutely right. I was surprised to find the definition of the word on the web includes people living in the US. But I think it's in the same vein as the word 'sandwich' is included in any spanish dictionary. It's an adopted term.
Still, I don't think I'm incorrect in believing people raised in mex/pr are fundamentally different than the people raised in the usa, regardless of their latino parents. I mean, it's just one example, but here in PR there is no racism, none. We don't care about that. We do have a different sort of discrimination based on social standing, (de publica o privada). I have no fear of police for having color on my skin or wearing a hoodie or whatever. I have fear of police because I come from a caserio and that automatically makes me suspicious. I'm sure the same differences apply to mexicans/cubans/dominicans.
There are some Mexican American boxers that know little Spanish but wear the flag.Nothing wrong with repping your heritage.

with Bernard on his way out and USS close behind, its good to see the city will be in good hands lol....Mike Jones will beat a few dude's fav fighters in the future...gotta see if Hank can get off ESPN and start making some real noise....Bryant Jennings just stopped Sergei Liakhovich...we got another latino kid/prospect, Ronald Cruz...can't forget my dude Teon Kennedy....the muurder charge against him has been dropped, his head is clear and now its time to get it in....HBO must regret not showing his fight with another unbeaten prospect Jorge Diaz as part of the live TV show...oh man!!, that fight was fire!!!....Philly we looking good!!! :boxing:
Philly boxing is where its at mayne. Its crazy how much hate Danny gets in here. It seems more like Match.com than BOXINGscene. "his haircut, his voice, his dad, he cried, he owes taxes, he smashed a hoe, he burned a bill, he doesn't like needles, he stutters, he does his eyrbrows, he models underwear, etc.. some of you guys talk like betches on here. Are you trying to fuhk the guy or appreciate his willingness to trade shots skillfully with an opponent?.... Anyway, I can't wait to see Mike Jones do his thing in the big leagues. Tito Serrano is on his way up there too. Cruz will hopefully stay on the right track too.

Word up man
As latinos as DLH, americans of hispanic decent. They're mex-americans. All three of them are (were) listed and rated as americans not mexicans, even on boxrec.
Regardless, to me it's all about where you were brought up. Your parents can teach you a lot about the culture but there are intangibles that you only acquire by living on the island/mex. An example is Margarito for mexico and Dulorme for pr.
Man i hate saying american when referring to the usa. It's only a part of the americas but they carry the tittle and the connotation.. but then again, what do you call em? uslandians? lol :banana:

I don't like it when boxers just becasue their parents are from rican or mexican decent, it automatically makes them latino. I've said it before, if he wasn't raised on the island he ain't no rican.
But congrats on his win, hope he gets to keep it.
So Rios and Arreola aren't Latinos?
I give Morales a lot of credit for fighting this young guy. It was a good win For Garcia. I still think he needs to throw more punches and tighten up that defense. I felt like he needed to knockout Morales in the 11 round to really get people talking about him but he still fought well. I would like to see him fight Zab Judah next that would be another name on his resume if he fights him and wins.
Lol, man, Americans don't consider us Hispanics as one of theirs. When I walk in the street, i'm just another Hispanic. You don't get treated like an American, you get treated like a Hispanic. Cops see you as a Hispanic, the law sees you as a Hispanic. A hispanic is a hispanic until she/he's far far removed from them even in appearance. Police gonna look at you like a Sp*c. But okay whatever you say.
Where I live half of the cops are hispanic. But I agree if your a young man and hispanic the cops are more likely to **** with you. About half of the population is hispanic in New Mexico, but I can't speak for the rest of America. Look at Arizona is right next door to where I live and if you look mexican they can stop you ask you for your papers. How ****ed up is that

Not that I disagree with this statement but that says more about american culture than you being from any other place. In fact, the fact you acknowledge this behavior in the USA just shows how you're part of the culture.
But we can agree to disagree. :greddy2:
holt, morales and campbell... not really bad...
but im still not sold somehow... anyway, i hope his management gets him more meaningful fights in the future for his sake...
Don't forget Ashley Theopane, and to a lesser extent Mike Arnoutis.
Danny "Swift" Garcia beats Erik "El Terrible" Morales.
Sure looks good on a resume...
Kinda like when Kostya beat Chavez Sr.
Though Garcia-Morales was a little more competitive.
