Why doesnt GBP build Danny Garcia as an up and coming Puerto Rican fighter? Why don't take advantage of his heritage? why is he always fighting on the west coast? A friend of mine who is a casual boxing fan found out last night that he was Boricua! I mean wtf? that is not how u build up a Puerto Rican prospect.
That's cool but he sure in the hell isn't Mexican. Too many people think Mexican-American or whatever American are whatever the first part of the title is. Majority of Americans have never been or speak what their grandparents spoke or come from. That's why Americans need to ditch the whole whatever-american. It's a diverse country, we're all Americans and our majority of our grandparents came from other places. People like Rios are American and majority of these kids couldn't tell jack sh1t about where their grandparents came from. I'm cool with people celebrating their heritage but that certainly doesn't make you one of them.
you are simplifying this issue like the points you make about most Americans not having any contact with their great grandparents, or their place of origins like Italian Americans, etc doesn't really apply to Mexican-Americans.
Thing is, Mexico is literally a part of the United States geographically speaking, (yes yes, I know u don't need a geography lesson) but to suggest that the majority of Mexican-Americans don't have any ties or contacts with mexico is false.
In fact, after the major earthquake in Acapulco first thing my family does is hop on the cell phone and make some calls to some cities in Mexico to see if our FAMILY members were okay... nevertheless, I don't know those relatives personally, but again just making the point that unlike Europeans or people with Euro and African ancestry, etc. We are very much so in touch with the country of our ancestors, most of us have family in Mexico whether we even know it or not.
And I deeply despise the "Where you were Born is what you are!" argument, I coulda been born in mothafluckin Saudi Arabia and I would still be 100 and 50 %% Mexican....
That's why America is so ass backwards. For being such a great nation, that has become a melting pot we still can't get over the past and be united. If you think about it, it is pretty sad.
That's the point we are a melting pot. Unless you are super politically correct, you know you would address a person by their background. If I'm in Orlando and see a hot Cuban-American chick. I'd say look at that hot Cuban, not look at that hot American. Thats not descriptive and makes no sense. Use the Zimmerman case for example. Did you hear anyone say "hey you heard about the self appointed patrolman American that killed the teenage American"? No, but you did hear about a 28 yr old Mexican that killed a black teen. It's just more descriptive....
It just reminds me of an episode last week in the NCAA tournament. The fans from Southern Miss University were chanting at a player where's your green card? The kid is American and these fools are shouting at him like he's from some other nation. They probably think he was Mexican too because he was tan and to a lot of Americans, if you are tan, you're Mexican, despite him being of Puerto Rican decent.
Things like that just boggle my mind because it's racist and the only reason they do it because he was tan, not black or white. Chances are though that tan kid lived here a long time. His parents were probably born here and his grandparents came over to America before that, just like majority of blacks or whites in this country.
I read about that. That was sad.
Don't they do that in Soccer as well? The white people make monkey noises or something, to black soccer players? Or they use to do that, I forgot.
naw I would say GBP just suck at promoting on the East Coast!
that is why Danny Garcia and Peter Quillin are not bigger names, it is amazing going into this fight how many people don't much about Garcia, but hey this is a fight in which he can make that name for himself and I personally think he will!

Americans should ditch the something-American, but that's just how they roll. You don't see Haye being called Jamaican-British, or Pascal being called Haitian-Canadian, or Khan a Pakistani-British. It's just the U.S. showing they're still not past segregation and racism.
They probably should have him fight more in Philly though, he had a few recent fights there and a couple earlier in Atlantic City but that to me where he should be based out of and built up.
No one gets built up in Philly, not even Philly fighters for some reason.
IMO, New York is the best place to build Garcia up because of the strong Puerto Rican presence here.

An interview to Danny Garcia a couple of years back. He did said at the end of the interview, he wants to be considered the next puertorican great fighter. However, most people here in PR dont even know him or follow him. If he wins tonight wait for the bandwagon.
Trust me,If danny spoke spanish and didnt act black,They would
of had him fight in rico like they where doing with micheal perez.
Why do all of these "acting black/ghetto" comments come from Mexicans on here?
danny dont speak spanish and acts black.
A lot of Puerto Ricans act black.
GBP knows that even if they build him up, he's going to lose to a good Mexican fighter down the line so it would be better to invest time, money, and effort in a Mexican fighter.

Twasn't he born and raised in Philly? He has had fights there~
I have never even heard dude utter a spanish phrase, he is about as Puerto Rican as apple pie~
:lol1: :lol1:

OP you obvously have no idea about what you're talking about but please keep talking out your ass, its amusing...
Golden Boy is not like Top Rank where they force fighters to claim nationalities that they have no ties too...
I have no respect for guys like Rios who are as mexican as taco bell and have no ties to Mexico whatsoever ( he doesnt even speak spanish) who claim false nationalities to simply beg for acceptance from a fanbase
:haha: @ as mexican as taco bell.
i think rios speaks a little spanish. never heard garcia speak spanish but yeah, he's really americanized. i doubt he'd even try and push that angle, the "support me cause i represent so and so country".
