I think he just might, and if he does it's over.
I think he'll stick to his style since his return and try and walk Cotto down some what, Cotto will be a sucker for straight rights, Cotto can't really fight on back foot and will gas out.
Fighting super slow Margarito doesn't make you a master at fighting on the backfoot. Floyd won't have a problem if Cotto try to fight that way, Cotto will just be throwing jabs and then few hooks in spots when Floyd stop moving, but Floyd will find openings because Cotto tend to positioned himself where he can easily be hit by the straight right hand. Cotto looked faster than usual against Margarito, but so have every other opponents that have fought Margarito.
I dont care who hes fighting, Cotto is gonna be cotto, and styles make fights...I havnt seen 50' Floyd fight someone with that style, and all Im saying is, it will Show Floyd having to adjust a little bit..I never said Floyd was gonna lose or ANYTHING like that..LOL
TBH, I thought the same way when Floyd signed to fight Mosley. I thought he was going to simply outbox Mosley. I think we can all agree that we didn't quite expect what did happen.
I can see Floyd walking Cotto down. Probably not right away, but eventually he will start to.
Different fighters, different styles, different variables. It all depends on what cotto shows up, and how well he is prepared. Imo, Cotto will show up to fight, and wont shy away from a punch, nor wont be trigger shy.
Doesn't need to be.
He'll stand infront of him but box, that's what he always does.
When Cotto keeps missing and Mayweather keeps landing, he'll back up. It's what he does.
Maybe. And maybe cotto is a little better than you think.
Im not convinced floyds punch output is enough to scare/walk cotto down. Yes floyd throws hard shots, but i dont beleive its enough to make cotto cower and be walked down. Cotto's no stranger to being hit hard, he's game to stand his ground and exchange. We'll see what happens.
Cotto backs up against damn near everyone now. When Floyd is in front of him hitting him at will, he'll back up like he always does.

Just because he's walking him down doesn't mean he'll become a volume puncher.
He's still going to average around 40 punches around whether he walks him down or not.

He cant fight on the backfoot?..He MASTERS Fighting on the backfoot, didnt u see his fight with Margarito???..Thats the problem Floyd will have in this fight...Floyd is gonna walk him down, but Floyd has been fighting offensive minded fighters who cant fight going backwards, and Cotto MASTERS That style...You dont even watch cotto, stop it bro!!!!
:lol1: :lol1:
Mayweather is a superior boxer in every way in the ring. Cotto will need to box him and apply pressure without falling into traps that Mayweather will try to set up for his counters. If Cotto leans in at all when coming forward hes gonna get tagged often and if he can't adjust the punches will get harder. The only way Cotto wins is if he can handle Mayweathers power if not, he looses. He needs to out fox the fox and that means be first and often and be able to get Mayweathers respect while doing it. If Cotto could win it would be a huge upset, if I watch it I just hope it is a fight!!! Its time for Floyd to come off the ropes and get to work, Cotto like most fighters can't back up and fight so thats how he should be fought. Mayweather should dominate this guy but we'll see what Cotto is all about now! Ray

I dont think its in mayweathers best interest to try and become something he's not (volume puncher). Cotto has no problem being tagged by the occasional hard shot, and has no problem throwing back. Its only been the volume punchers that can put him in trouble. Everybodys open to be hit when they are throwing, does mayweather really want to do that and open himself up?

I don't see Floyd backing Cotto up until he starts dominating the fight. Once he does that and hurts Cotto, then he might but I think Floyd will be content to dominate as a counter puncher.
I hope so..
Yes. Cotto will probably pressure him in spots, just like Ortiz did, but for the majority of the fight, I see Floyd walking him down. And once that happens, Cotto has NO SHOT TO WIN.

A few things i think will happen throughout the fight;
-Mayweather will walk cotto down
-Cotto will let mayweather be aggressive and come forward
-Cotto will walk mayweather down
-Both will stand their ground in some wicked exchanges
I think he just might, and if he does it's over.

Trainers can't fight for the fighters man, not saying he won't have a plan cuz he will.
But fighters normally go back to what they have always done under pressure, fold or fight (Cotto has done both)
Cottos inside game is way over rated, he needs space to get those hooks off. Once that space is available, it'll be too late, Floyd fires at damn near zero range.
I see Cotto backing out of a lot of clinches, Floyd firing, Cotto backing out again, Floyd firing.
Once Cotto figures he can't be close, Floyd picks him apart. He'll have his moments tho, but yea Floyd backs him up but not down.
I think people also need to remember that Floyd won't get out of his comfort zone. I think he'll attempt, but if it's not working thoroughly he'll go back to what he does best. Styles make fights. Guys like Pacquiao and Margarito who bring a lot of offense and pressure constantly will always give Cotto problems in the area of him being walked back. Even with that being said Cotto made big improvements with dealing with pressure in the Marg (a bigger guy) rematch and never once laid on the ropes and brought the fight to the center of the ring. Floyd's best shots come from him establishing his reach, throwing a lead right hand, and getting out of the way. If Floyd were as effective offensively as he was during his 130-135 days then that's a different story. I see Floyd using his reach and defense more that pressuring Cotto.
