While Merchant was hating on Martinez, Lampley would answer back in defense of Martinez, and Merchant would basically sound like he got owned and calmed down.
For example, in the 3rd round Merchant's "Uncertainty in Martinez's face" comment, Lampley answered back with "Well I see an uncertainty in both fighters faces, I don't see Macklin in any sort of command either".
Then Merchant says "Martinez is the champion, the 10-1 favorite, 3 KO's in a row, he called this fight a KO" *Lampley interrupts* "But does that mean that it would have supposed to come by now?".
Merchant: No, no it doesn't. Even he didn't say 3 rounds. Then Lampley mentions the Barker fight and how Martinez looked lousy at first but then still got the KO.
And Merchant ends it with "Point well taken".
Lampley: GOAT commentator, and underrated boxing intelligence. And this was not the first time he put Merchant in his place, just the most recent.
LOL.....explains a lot. I didn't realise you were so sensitive bro. I'll try to tone it down for you. :luvbed:
im the sensitive one but yet ur in every thread spreading ur negativity like a chick on her bleeding cycle, not manly dude, not at all. but then again, ur an amir khan fan, i guess its to me expected.
I don't like Lampley either because he's really far off when it comes to broadcasting the live action. I don't mind Emmanuel Steward that much I guess. Merchant is s**t though, always has been. This is nothing new. They just have Max Kellerman there all the time. I like the guy on HBO BAD far more than Jim Lampley though.
Which decent boxers would these be? Sergio? Who is my favourite fighter outside the UK. So yes I "cheer for" him.
But I dont DICKRIDE him like apparently you feel everyone should do to your favourite fighters. I don't think he can do no wrong.
Do you ever post without referencing "hate" and "haters"? Like I told you once before, it sounds like you were raised by women and didn't have a father figure in your life.
i was raised by women and those women were/are stronger than most men, so wats ur point? u really think ur acting manly by being a debbie downer?? smh, i guess thats what passes for manhood in the uk or something. whenever someone write something in support of another fighter, theres no need for ur negative as to come around and try to make them feel how u feel about ur **** fighters. just keep it real, u werent this kinda poster before now all of a sudden u got a constant stick u your ass and everyone notices it because its been pointed out numerous times.
I actually thought the entire broadcast team was a bit off.....almost like there was a tension between them all. Merchant was very negative and Lampley wasnt having any of it.
My theory is that they have pretty much told Merchant that he will not be doing the super fights or PPV fights anymore after the whole Floyd thing. Max is prolly going to be taking over. Merchant being the grumpy old man that he is might of made a big deal out of it and there is tension between the HBO broadcast team now. The telling comment for me was when Lampley made a point of reading out Max's text message to him....there was like a 10 second pause after that and Merchant finally formulated the thought "is max's p4p list the official list?" and Lampley owned him right after saying something like "No but its a credible one....is anyone's p4p list the official list?" or something along those lines.
Again just my opinion......i really dont see any reason to be hating on Sergio that much, he's a champion, hes charismatic, and im sure he's like the ODH of Argentina, overall good for boxing.
Guess we will find out if Max does the Pac fight and the Floyd fight.
Kell Brook is the f**king man. He needs to step up and fight someone like the Sencehnko-Malignaggi winner, Solomon, or even Zaveck. But, he is the f**king man. I really think Kell is the truth.
The Malignaggi-Senchenko winner would be the next logical step. I honestly think fighting Matthew Hatton was a step backwards, but I better not say that too loud otherwise DempseyRollin will start menstruating all over the board again.

why do u guys even bother responding to dirk? hes a butthurt kahn fan who has no1 2 to cheer for so he wants to make everyone else feel bad for cheering for decent boxers. ignore the hater.

Murray's performance against Sturm was worlds apart from Macklin's. I saw the fight and he was gifted a draw. I thought it was particularly strange that they favored the challenger this time.
I'll go on record in saying that Murray is not a legit contender and doesn't deserve a title shot with any belt holder at 160.
It wasn't really. Both were close fights. Murray fought on terms with Sturm. I dont know if Sturm is past his best or he just cant get up for fights anymore. But doing well against him or even just beating him as many feel Macklin did should not be some kind of indicator of being a legit challenger for Sergio.
What has Macklin really done outside of that? He's a European level fighter.

If doing well against Felix Sturm is an indicator of being a credible opponent then I guess Martin Murray is next.

Macklin is a lackluster opponent? Didn't you hear about the robbery in Germany? Which opponent is more solid at 160 than Macklin? I thought Macklin was a legit opponent coming into the fight. Macklin is no Barker IMO.

Because Macklin isn't the one being showcased. It was Sergio's decision to fight such a lacklustre opponent and thus he is under more scrutiny to perform.

What Lmapley said after that, would tell you what that comment was about.
He said, we're not watching Roy Jones, we're watching a fighter who started boxing late and blah blah blah, started complimenting him on how good he is for the age he started in. So no, it was not a slight on Martinez, Lampley was defending him. Cause it's a fact, we're not watching Roy, so Merchant needs to shut his trap about Roy. We might not even be watching a HOF'er cause it's just too late for him to do anything big enough to get in, I think.
Whatever. Whether we're watching Roy or not is moot. The fact that he was throwing 1 left hand at a time was deserving of criticism. His performance for 6/7 rounds wasn't great so why pretend that it was?
Could be taken as a slight on Sergio i.e he'll never be as good as Jones. It just depends how you look at it. Too many people hear what they wanna hear and get butthurt when its a fighter they like getting criticised.
Im a Sergio fan but it sounds like Merchant was spot on with his analysis. He WAS just throwing one left-hand at a time in the early stages of that fight and he was getting countered by a mediocre fighter like Macklin.
Why is it wrong for Merchant to call it like it is? You guys want him to constantly suck dick like Max Kellerman?

Merchant was awful last night, especially bad in the Rodriguez vs Donovan fight. I was watching and thinking..."what the eff is this guy talking about?
Many of his "anecdotes" went absolutely nowhere and he was droning on like he was drunk or off his rocker (or both).
he's way past his prime. sometimes he can't pull the trigger mid sentence. it's sad. ali-holmes start to flash in my head as he drones on.
Macklin is a very good fighter though. He beat Sturm and now he made a very good account of himself, although falling short, against Sergio Martinez. I bet you this guy gives a hell of a fight to Pirog, Chavez Jr, Golovkin just like he gave to Martinez and Sturm.

I dont really tune in to HBO often as I dont live in the states but the commentary on this one was incredibly biased. They wanted to make it seem like it was an even fight and at one point as though Sergio was losing, when he was in total control for most of the fight and landing all of the clean shots.
