Last night on Sky Sports(after Brook-Hatton) a couple of the pundits said they would like to see Kell Brook fighting someone from across the Atlantic, with Andre Berto, Victor Ortiz and Devon Alexander all mentioned.
I think Ortiz beats Brook pretty comfortably, and I wouldn't like to see him fighting Alexander because I'm yet to be totally won over by him, although he boxed well against Maidana(aside from clinching about a billion times).
I would, however, like to see Brook fighting Berto(I think either guy would look good as a victim on the other's resume). The standard in the USA is much higher than that in Britain, but Brook is one of a select few fighters from the UK that might have what it takes to mix it with some of the bigger names in the welterweight division on a world scale.
In my opinion, Brook takes a fight against Berto by a close but unanimous decision. What do you guys think?
Brook wins by KO.
Berto doesn't have any advantage in that fight. The only guy's at 147 I think would beat Brook are Pacquiao and Mayweather.....Ortiz I would consider a 50/50 fight.
WOW U got me excited...Im gonna write the opponent's name down and watch that fight when I have time!...I already knew there was something special about Kell from the first time I saw him fight!
Yeah he's really good. Me and the TS will disagree with who he will look best against between berto and ortiz though. I personally think Ortiz is an easier fighter to counter, and Kell likes leading with his straight a LOT, even against conventional fighters, so it would have an even better effect on Ortiz since he's a southpaw. All in all, I just see Ortiz as being the easier fight.
But regardless, Kell is really good. He's holding himself back at the moment by begging for a Khan fight. Khan hasn't moved to 147 yet and they are constantly calling him out instead of pursuing bigger things.
As i said previously, with the way he's being built up, he is likely to face the Senchenko/Malignaggi winner before anyone else. I see the Ortiz/Berto LOSER fighting the Jones/Bailey winner, and the Ortiz/Berto WINNER will probably be next in line for Floyd or Pac - possibly even Bradley, win or lose against Pac.
That seems to be how the WW division is shaping up right now, and if you look at those scenarios carefully, you'll notice in every scenario Kell ends up with the least credible opponent and worst exposure. It is what it is. He's a great fighter though. He's going through his motions and he just seems like a natural in there. I like him a lot.
Here he is against Hatton from Sautrday night. Round 5 is a great display.
My personal verdict on Kell is the same as that of Mikey Garcia. They aren't flashy at all, but they are very smart, patient, and effective. In 1 word, they are consistent. People think at this stage they should be getting their lesser opponents out of there in 2-3 rounds, and although I can agree that - that would be nice. Seeing these guys go through their motions for 6-10 or even 12 rounds is just as good, because it shows you that they are not front runners. That they can perform late just as good as they can early, and this is what you normally NEVER find out about a prospect when they finish fights early.
Berto is a prime example of the point I'm making. So I enjoy Kell for his consistency in the ring, and I think he's going to go real far.
Brook is seriously underrated because he hasn't been allowed to step it up yet. He will suprise a lot of you. His boxing brain is real good, and he's a HELL of a counter puncher with some good pop. I think he'd beat Ortiz comfortable and struggle more with Berto. Ortiz is a much more comfortable style for him. I also think he'd beat both when given the chance. Guys need to definitely watch more BRook fights, he's actually pretty fun to watch. In his last fight against Galarza, he was averaging like 10-15 counters a round.. all pull counters.
Pull straights, pull jabs, pull hooks... Floyd would have been proud.
Obviously I'd like to see him versus the Senchenko/Malignaggi winner first, and that's probably the most likely Scenerio. I believe the ortiz/berto 2 winner might be in line for pacman or floyd, and Mike Jones may fight Alexander. I don't think Ortiz or Berto fight anyone not named bradley, pacman, mayweather or khan. I think their names have gotten too big at this point, egos too.
Man I saw some clips of that fight bro. I knew Kell was good, but Im going to jump HEAVY on this kid's bandwagon. He's better than I though I didnt know he was counter puncher like that. I used to like Broner until everyone jumped on his bandwagon, and gave him more credit than he deserves. I jumped off that kid's bandwagon until he matures! Thanks for the tip!

Brook just isn't that good, falls in with his punches, footwork ain't good, telegraphs too much. Berto is at least explosive and has speed, Berto stops him.

he has knocked them all down except floyd! also, you have to take the quality of opposition brook has faced in his career into account. although ortiz lost to mayweather, he was doing okay until he headbutted him and floyd unfairly ko'd him(he wasn't winning, but he was holding his own). victor knows what it's like to be in with elite fighters, which brook doesn't. peterson also is proven to be a warrior with immense heart(which kept him in the fight against ortiz) whereas brook isn't, because he hasn't been tested(i'm not saying he doesn't have heart, but no one really knows - and he probably doesn't have as much as peterson because who does?).
as i said, it's too early to put brook in with someone as dangerous and as big a puncher as ortiz. berto will do for now!
